Dear Mr President,

Assalamo Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahe Wa Barakatohu,

In light of the perilous state of affairs emerging in the world, I felt that it was essential for me to write to you, as you are the President of Iran, and thus you hold the authority to make decisions which will affect the future of your nation and the world at large. There is currently great agitation and restlessness in the world. In some areas small-scale wars have broken out, while in other places the superpowers act on the pretext of trying to bring about peace. Each country is engaged in activities to either help or oppose other countries, but the requirements of justice are not being fulfilled.  It is with regret that if we now observe the current circumstances of the world, we find that the foundation for another world war has already been laid. As so many countries, both large and small, have nuclear weapons, grudges and hostilities are increasing. In such a predicament, the Third World War looms almost certainly before us. As you are aware, the availability of nuclear weapons will mean that a Third World War will be an atomic war. Its ultimate result will be catastrophic, and the long term effects of such warfare could lead to future generations being born disabled or deformed.

It is my belief that as followers of the Holy Prophet Muhammad^(pbuh), who was sent to establish peace in the world, and who was the Rahmatullil  Aalameen – the Mercy to all of Mankind –we do not and cannot desire for the world to suffer such a fate. This is why my request to you is that as Iran is also a significant power in the world, it should play its role to prevent a Third World War. It is undeniably true that the major powers act with double standards. Their injustices have caused restlessness and disorder to spread all across the world. However, we cannot ignore the fact that some Muslim groups act inappropriately, and contrary to the teachings of Islam. Major world powers have used this as a pretext to fulfil their vested interests by taking advantage of the poor Muslim countries. Thus, I request you once again, that you should focus all of your efforts and energies towards saving the world from a Third World War. The Holy Qur’an teaches Muslims that enmity against any nation should not hinder them from acting in a just manner. In Surah Al Mai’dah, Allah the Exalted instructs us:

“And let not the enmity of a people, that they hindered you from the Sacred Mosque, incite you to transgress. And help one another in righteousness and piety; but help not one another in sin and transgression. And fear Allah; surely, Allah is severe in punishment.” (Ch.5:V.3)

Similarly, in the same chapter of the Holy Qur’an we find the following commandment to Muslims:

“O ye who believe! Be steadfast in the cause of Allah, bearing witness in equity; and let not a people’s enmity incite you to act otherwise than with justice. Be always just, that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah. Surely, Allah is aware of what you do.”(Ch.5:V.9)

Hence, you should not oppose another nation merely out of enmity and hatred. I admit that Israel exceeds beyond its limits, and has its eyes cast glance upon Iran. Indeed, if any country transgresses against your country, naturally you have the right to defend yourself. However, as far as possible disputes should be resolved through diplomacy and negotiations. This is my humble request to you, that rather than using force, use dialogue to try and resolve conflicts. The reason why I make this request is because I am the follower of that Chosen Person of God who came in this era as the True Servant of the Holy Prophet Muhammad^(pbuh), and who claimed to be the Promised Messiah and Imam Mahdi. His mission was to bring mankind closer to God and to establish the rights of people in the manner our Master and Guide, the Rahmatullil Aalameen –the Mercy to all of Mankind – the Holy Prophet^(pbuh)demonstrated to us. May Allah the Exalted enable the Muslim Ummah to understand this beautiful teaching.

Laiq Ahmed Atif practises what he preaches – Love for All, Hatred for None.

“On my flight to Malta from Germany, I prayed a lot – because Malta was a completely new country for me, I prayed that God gives me courage and wisdom to get to know the Maltese people,” says Laiq Ahmed Atif, 30, from Pakistan.

“As soon as I was out of Malta International Airport, I felt comfortable – I knew that Malta would be my second home.”

Atif has been in Malta for four years and is the president of an organisation called Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta. He is married to Bushra and they have two children – a boy and a girl.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta, with headquarters in the UK, offers solidarity to all peoples from all cultures and religions. The organisation is present in almost 200 countries and has over 160 million members worldwide.

“There are a lot of branches in Islam. In Ahmadiyya, we believe that the Messiah and Mahdi (guide), who according to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would come to reform Islam, has already come.”

The motto of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta is ‘Love for all, hatred for none’.

“When we help people, we help human beings – we don’t look at race, religion or culture,” says Atif. Atif has worked hard to integrate.

“The Maltese people have a kind heart and that helped me integrate fast,” he says. Atif has also learned Maltese. “I wanted to learn the language so that I can act as a bridge for cultural diversity and religious harmony in Malta,” he says.

“I remember how, when Atif first came to Malta, he would read all the papers and watch the news so that he could understand the Maltese culture,” says Justin Schembri, who teaches Atif Maltese. “He wanted to learn about the Maltese culture before he actually started participating.

“When I met Atif, there was a connection between us – we were not just teacher and student, but we also became friends.

“Atif managed to integrate so well in Malta because he is a very friendly and respectful man – he seeks friendship with everyone,” Justin says.

“Integration is very important, especially in our globalised world” says Atif. “We cannot be isolated from others, and we must respect diversity – diversity is what makes the world beautiful.

“As a Muslim, it is my responsibility to love Malta as the country where I live. I do not want to be a burden on this country – rather, I want to be part of it.”

As we all know, that the world has emerged as a glabal viallage, an undeniable realty. Today people frequently travell to different places, and are settling in different countries. Migration is also a phenomenon, not only human beings, but also the other creatures such as birds, migrate from one place to other, due to certain circumstances.

Some migrate for having good future, some migrate to settle or improve their businesses, some migrate to escape hardships of their countries, and some migrate to save their lives from religious persecutions, just to name a few. And in today’s world it looks very difficult to deny or eliminate every sort of migration; however, to make a positive use, it is possible and highly essential. In September 2006, the 132 Member States that participated in General Assembly reaffirmed that:

1. Migration could make a positive contribution in development, in countries of origin and countries of destination
2. They emphasised on the respect and fundamental rights of the migrants
3. They recognized the importance of strengthening international cooperation

I believe that integration is not only possible but it is highly essential for the betterment and progress of a society.

Integration is a two way process: Two Categories – Rights and Obligations 

1. Responsibilities of a country or society in which migration takes place:

• Establishment of Human dignity,
• Fundamental human rights and acceptance of the migrants.
• Host nation should honour the culture and religion of its immigrants.
• RIGHTS: Their rights are that their traditions, cultural, religion and laws of the land must be respected and honoured 

1. Duties and responsibilities of the immigrants:

• They must reciprocate respect and love; and become grateful to their hosts
• They must abide by the law,
• They should respect the customs, traditions and culture of the host country,
• They make their contribution in the progress and betterment of the country
• They must become willing to integrate, and to adopt all of the good things that this country has to offer. 

Migration to Medina as an Example: 

Here I quote a wonderful example of migration, which to me is really exemplary and that is the migration of Muslims from Mecca to Medina, because of hardships and persecution in their homeland. When they migrated to Medina their hosts welcomed them with open arms and offered them full support and help, and showed them great respect and dignity. The Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be on him, established “Brotherhood” between hosts and migrants which is known as “Brotherhood of Medina”. 

The immigrants did not take whatever was offered to them as their right, but they fully shouldered their responsibilities. They worked id f’id with the local communities, they respected their hosts, other religions and communities and the law of the land; and rather than becoming burden they in a very short period of time they started contributing in the society and economy of the state. 

I think if both the host and migrants work with this spirit they can be useful and can contribute a lot to Malta. Here to make it clear that I am not promoting it, but just highlighting the points and aspects that can be useful for the progress of the country. 

Media’s Role in integration: 

As far as the role of media is concern, I think media can play a great role in integration:

1.  By covering the immigrants in positive light and showing their useful contributions to the society; because every human being has abilities and has something to offer.

2.  By showing the lives of well integrated immigrants with their local friends.

3.  By organising Interfaith dialogues; cultural events; and media can give coverage to their activities, and can encourage them to be part of the society

4.Programs to teach immigrants about Malta’s history, culture, heritage and language

5.  Covering the countries from which immigrants are coming in some positive light from the perspectives of tourism 

6. Media can highlight positive aspects of their culture, traditions, customs and values; because every people have some good cultures, e.g. in Pakistan, in the Sindh province to which I belong to, has a very good culture that in a bus male always offer and vacate their seats to women, and there rarely one finds a woman standing in a bus. These sort of positive aspect will also give chance to find and learn something positive from each other.
7.  Highlighting the common humanity of all of us.

Our Community, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, always integrates very well in every country, and in Malta we are also very well integrated. 

Here I would like to conclude with a quote of Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Current Supreme Head of the Worldwide Ahmadiyya Community; he says: 

“There should be no compulsion in religion. Jews should be able to practice their religion freely; Christians should be able to practice their religion freely and Muslims likewise. However where the interests of the country are at stake then all citizens should work together for the betterment of the nation…”

 “To be integrated it is necessary to believe the country you live in is your own and you must desire for it to succeed. Your relationship should be with the country not just with individuals within it. This is true integration.”

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta organised its annual “Peace Symposium 2012” on Friday 16^th March 2012, at the Grand Hotel Excelsior, Floriana, Malta.

In this symposium Dr. Simon Busuttil MEP, Hon. Evarist Bartolo MP, Ms. Angele Deguara, Malta Green Party, Fr Edgar Busuttil, SJ, and Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad Ayaz O.B.E, delivered their talks on ‘Democracy, freedom, human rights, social justice, diversity and peace; the role of religion in politics and democracy and place of religion in modern society’. All the speeches were very interesting, informative and inspiring.

During the Symposium the Community also organised an exhibition about the holy books of different religions, including the Holy Bible and the Holy Koran, at the same venue.

Audience also put their questions to the speakers, and presented their comments. Nearly 70 people, from different sections of the society attended this Peace Symposium and Holy Books Exhibition.

In his welcoming address Laiq Ahmed Atif, President Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta, introduced to the gathering about the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat and explained that the Ahmadiyya Community organises similar meetings all around the world. The aim of these gatherings is to share knowledge, teachings, opinions and experiences on different subjects that can be helpful for the establishment of lasting peace in the world.

He concluded it with the following two quotations from the keynote addresses of His Holiness Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Head of the Worldwide Ahmadiyya Community:

“Peace in society is a two-way process and can only be established if all parties work together towards mutual reconciliation.

Today we, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, are trying to bring peace in the world. We are playing our role and trying to fulfil our responsibilities in this regard. And so I would request all of you to join us in this task…

We must set aside our own personal desires and instead be concerned for the future existence and well-being of our next generations. We must adopt selflessness rather than selfishness. When we all join together and come to respect each other’s feelings and sentiments then and only then will an atmosphere of mutual love develop. It is then that we will truly see the beautiful society that all peaceful people desire.” (Opening of Tahir Mosque in Catford, London, on 11 February 2012)

Highlighting the importance of peace he further said:

“It is surely our duty to care for and respect one another. And the best way to practically demonstrate this esteem is to consider the feelings and sentiments of each other, because that is the primary way to establish good human values. And, it is the only way to develop an environment filled with peace, justice, reconciliation and brotherhood. It should be our goal to establish such high values in every village, every town, every city, every country, every society and indeed every part of the world.” (Opening of Baitul Aman Mosque in Middlesex, UK, 4^th March 2012)

The Promised Messiah had been sent to bring mankind closer to God Almighty, to make the world aware of the need to fulfil the rights of God’s Creation and to bring an end to all religious warfare. His Holiness said that this was not a new teaching but the same teaching that had been brought by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

His Holiness also used his address to highlight the plight of those suffering from poverty and deprivation. He said those who were in a position to help had a moral duty to do so. In this regard His Holiness said:

“When destitute people feel that their deprivation has reached its peak, then it leads to the spread of restlessness and disorder throughout society and so ultimately the peace and tranquillity of the community is shattered. Therefore helping deprived people has multiple benefits, because where on the one hand, it helps to bring man closer to God, on the other it leads to the creation of a peaceful and harmonious environment. This is because those who were once impoverished, are finally able to stand upon their own two feet and gain self-respect and dignity.”

Speaking about the efforts of the Ahmadiyya Community towards sering humanity, His Holiness said:

“We, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, have a passionate desire to serve humanity. And whilst we do not have huge resources, still the members of our Community give generously in alms, according to their abilities, out of a desire for piety and in an effort to relieve the pain and suffering of humanity. Under the supervision and management of our Jamaat, many schools, hospitals, orphanages and various other projects are being established and administered in the poorer countries of the world. Our services are rendered irrespective of religious, ethnic or social background.”

His Holiness concluded his address by speaking about the true and peaceful teachings of Islam. Addressing the ways in which the Ahmadiyya Community chose to propagate its message, based on the true teachings of Islam, His Holiness explained:

“The Founder of the Ahmadiyya Community taught us that, today rather than using the sword, we must use the pen to spread the beautiful characteristics of Islam in the form of books, literature, and through the media. And also we must utilise all other positive means of educating the world about Islam’s real and loving teachings. This is the ‘Jihad of the Pen’ which the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) brought and which he taught and this alone is a representation of true Islam. We, Ahmadi Muslims, follow this Islam, and it is this Islam that we spread and convey to others.”

Symposium for peace on Friday

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat is pleased to announce that on 24 February 2012, its world leader, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad inaugurated the new Baitul Wahid Mosque in Feltham, London. The mosque was officially opened by His Holiness as he led the Friday Prayers at the Mosque with a sermon that was broadcast live across the world on MTA International.

This was followed by a formal evening reception attended by a number of dignitaries and guests, including Mary Macleod MP, Seema Malhotra MP, Councillor Amrit Mann and Lord Eric Avebury.

Mary Macleod, MP for Brentford & Isleworth congratulated the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat on the opening of the Baitul Wahid Mosque. She offered her support for the many peace initiatives undertaken by the Jamaat and praised the community’s role towards building a peaceful society. She also spoke of her concern at the continued persecution of Ahmadis in Pakistan.

Seema Malhotra, MP for Feltham & Heston, said that the Ahmadiyya community was constantly striving to bring people of all faiths and beliefs together. She said the values of the community made it an ‘example’ for others to follow and said she was sure the new Mosque would educate and bind the local community together.

The Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Amrit Mann, called the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Hounslow ‘a model community’ . He praised the community’s motto of ‘Love for All, Hatred for None’ and its commitment to humanitarian efforts. Mr Jagdish Sharma, MBE, Leader of Hounslow Borough Council, said Ahmadi Muslims had the distinction of being ‘ law abiding and tolerant’ .

The function was concluded with an address by the Fifth Khalifa of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, in which he addressed various issues based on the true teachings of Islam.

At a time when people are being killed in Afghanistan due to the alleged burning of Holy Qur’an, His Holiness made it clear that Islam did not permit arbitrary violence or revenge in any form. He said:

“The Qur’an calls for the establishment of peace. It calls on Muslims to act compassionately towards all of mankind.”

His Holiness also referred to potential concerns of local people about the construction of a Mosque. Alleviating all such apprehensions, He said:

“This Mosque has been built only for the worship of God, and as a means to develop love, affection and peace. We have no other purpose, and we never will. Any true Muslim can never desire injustices or suffering for any other person because that would run entirely contrary to what the Qur’an and the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) have taught.”

His Holiness spoke about the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat’s continued efforts to promote peace and to help serve humanity. He said:

“Whenever and wherever we have been called to help and assist in good endeavours or in service to humanity, we have always heeded the call and come running to partake in those good acts. We do so, not due to any vested interests, but only due to our desire to seek God’s Pleasure and Nearness.”

The Khalifa also spoke about his admiration for British values of justice and equality. Speaking about how planning permission for the mosque was granted upon appeal, His Holiness said:

“Ultimately we were granted permission to build this mosque and this was because, as I have said many times, that here in the UK the system of governance is just and one which affords citizens their due rights. We, who are Ahmadi Muslims, always pray that God Almighty enables just and fair governments to be established throughout the world.”

His Holiness concluded by speaking about his concerns for the current state of the world. He said:

“The world today is fraught with danger and turmoil. We sit at an extremely critical juncture and so there is an urgent need for us to all recognise our Creator and to fulfil the rights of His Creation. As we stand on the brink of disaster, we must all join together in an effort to prevent such a huge catastrophe from befalling us.

Every individual in a society, irrespective of his background, has a role to play. We need to warn our leaders and governments to the dangers of this time. Otherwise if we fail in this task, and are led to a Third World War, then the horrific destruction that will befall us is apparent to all and lies in front of us. We must care for our future generations and not be consumed only by our own personal interests.”  

During the course of the day, His Holiness also unveiled a commemorative plaque and planted a tree to further mark the inauguration of the mosque. His Holiness also held a private meeting with a number of the dignitaries.

“Tahir Mosque will be a place of peace” said Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the worldwide leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, at the opening of Tahir Mosque Catford, London. 

On 15 February 2012, the world Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad was called on by the Governor-General of Tuvalu, Sir Iakoba Italeli at the Fazl Mosque in London. The Governor-General was also accompanied by his wife, Lady Koling Italeli and a member of staff.

During the meeting various matters pertaining to religion were discussed. In particular, His Holiness explained about the differences in belief between Ahmadi Muslims and non-Ahmadi Muslims.

Speaking about services rendered to Islam by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, His Holiness said that the community had translated the Holy Qur’an into around 70 languages and that this task was continually progressing.

His Holiness also spoke of his visit to the Fijian Islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu in 2006. His Holiness mentioned how the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat had established two schools in Fiji.

His Holiness also commented upon the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat’s commitment to serving humanity worldwide and in particular its humanitarian efforts in Africa.

The Governor-General briefed His Holiness about the political affairs of Tuvalu and also informed that he was in London after being called by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth for an Investiture Ceremony at Buckingham Palace to be held the following day.

Attack will not deter Ahmadi Muslims from completing the Mubarak Mosque

However, the role of a father in upbringing of a child is not less important than mother. And for the better future of a child the role of both parents is highly essential and important and both the parents should set positive and valuable examples for their children.

Every parent wants their children to be successful people, to be outstanding people in society, to have a good job and a better life. And it is also true that almost all children, regardless of their age, pick parents as their number one role model. So see, how important is it for the parents to lead by examples and become a real role model for their children.

Research has found that the best adjusted children, particularly in terms of social competence, have parents with an authoritative, moderate parenting style. These parents are able to balance clearly stated, high demands with emotional responsiveness and respect for their child’s autonomy. And children with disturbed and troubled family life are more likely to involve in crimes and drugs and they do not have the capabilities to compete and contribute positively in society.

This reminds me of a joke which clearly shows that how parents set examples to their children and how children learn and form themselves while seeing their parents. It is not only a joke but also a very sad and painful reality which may make some people laugh yet move some others to tears. However, the aim is to show that parent’s attitude has a great influence on their children.

Once a child observed with much pain and unease the ill-treatment of his grandfather at the hands of his father and that left a great impact on him. The grandfather was gradually transferred from a well-provided and comfortable main bedroom to a smaller and less convenient accommodation until it was finally decided to remove the grandfather to the servant’s quarters. During an exceptionally severe winter, the grandfather complained of his room being too chilly and his quilt being too thin to make him feel warm and comfortable. The father started looking for an extra blanket from a stock of old, useless rags and finally found him an old and mended blanket.

This left a great impact on child’s memory and he also started storing old things in a bag. One day his father saw him and asked the reason why he is storing these old cloths and mended blankets etc in a bag?

The child replied that a few days ago you gave similar old and mended blanket to your old and retired father when he was in need. So, I thought that I should also store some old items so can also provide you from these old cloths etc when you will be in need at your old and retired age.

This innocent expression of a child shows clearly that parents set examples for their children. So, for a great generation, parents must set positive and the best possible examples.

Each year, with the start of December, many discussions, publications, activities are directly focused on the topic of ‘Christmas’; in brief, Christmas becomes the talk of the town. Streets become brighter with different lights and decorations; homes, shops and offices are also very well decorated, in order to welcome Christmas.

The Holy Quran gives great honor and respect to Jesus and Mary (peace be on them), and both are mentioned repeatedly in the Holy Quran. A chapter of the Holy Quran is named after mother Mary and the name of Jesus is actually mentioned more often in the Holy Quran than of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, may peace be on him.  Allah Almighty says:

When the angels said, ‘O Mary, Allah gives thee glad tidings of a word from Him; his name shall be the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, honored in this world and in the next, and of those who are granted nearness to God. (3:46) 

And We gave Jesus, son of Mary, clear proofs and strengthened him with the Spirit of holiness. (2:254) 

The Holy Quran also extended great honor and respect to Mary, to such a high extent that God has named an entire chapter of the Holy Quran by her name, ‘Sura Maryam’, and Maryam is an Arabic name for Mary. The Holy Quran speaks of her righteousness and states:

And remember when the angels said, ‘O Mary, Allah has chosen thee and purified thee and chosen thee above the women of all peoples. (3:43) 

The Holy Quran also mentioned about her piety and God cleared her from allegations which were raised against her, by the people of the time. It states that: “Then she brought him (Jesus) to her people, carrying him. They said, ‘O Mary, thou hast brought forth a strange thing. (19:28) 

Furthermore:

And the example of Mary, the daughter of ‘Imran, who guarded her private parts — so We breathed into him of Our Spirit — and she fulfilled in her person the words of her Lord and His Books and was one of the obedient.” (66:13)

And We made the son of Mary and his mother a Sign, and gave them refuge on an elevated land of green valleys and springs of running water. (23:51) 

These verses, just to mention a few, are clear evident to the reality that Islam pays a great honor, respect and dignity to beloved Jesus and Mary (peace be on them). And having affection and respect for such great and noble personalities and to follow their footsteps is part and parcel of Islamic faith. Christmas is a time to remember the work and accomplishment of Jesus; it is a reminder for following their footsteps.

The Prophets and Islam:

Two of the six fundamental articles of Muslim faith are, to believe in all the Prophets of God – the Divine Teachers and to believe in all Divine Books and Scriptures. Therefore, Muslims believe that all prophets were sent by God and that the scriptures in their original form were Divine revelations. It also clearly informs us that in every region of the world and in every age, God did raise messengers and prophets. It sates:

And for every people there is a Messenger. (10:48)

There is no people to whom a Warner has not been sent. (35:25)

There is no denying the fact that the Holy Quran makes it incumbent on every Muslim to believe in all the prophets, but as Hadhrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad beautifully says:

When he speaks of Jesus Christ or Moses or Krishna or Buddha with veneration and love, he does so because he has no other option. It is a part of the fundamental article of his faith to extend not just a human courtesy, but to genuinely believe in their truth and honor. In the light of this, this article of faith appears to hold an importance of global scale. It establishes inter- religious peace and harmony and genuinely creates an atmosphere of mutual trust and love. Like the Unity of God it holds the intrinsic quality of being irreplaceable — there is no alternative. (An Elementary Study of Islam, P: 23)

The Holy Quran states:

“This Messenger of Ours believes in that which has been revealed to him from his Lord, and so do the believers: all of them believe in Allah, and in His angels, and in His Books, and in His Messengers, saying, ‘We make no distinction between any of His Messengers.” (2:286) 

“Say ye: ‘We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us, and what was revealed to Abraham and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob and his children, and what was given to Moses and Jesus, and what was given to all other Prophets from their Lord. We make no difference between any of them; and to Him we submit ourselves.” (2:137) 

The Founder of the Ahmadiyya Community, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani, may peace be on him, has summarized the Islamic belief in all the prophets, he writes:

One of the principles which forms the basis of my belief refers to the established religions of the world. These religions have met with wide acceptance in various regions of the earth. They have acquired a measure of age, and have reached a stage of maturity. God has informed me that none of these religions were false at their source and none of the prophets impostors. (Tohfa Qaisariya, Roohani Khazain Vol. 12 p.256) 

Again he says:

This is a beautiful principle, which promotes peace and harmony, and which lays the foundation for reconciliation, and which helps the moral condition of man. All prophets that have appeared in the world, regardless of whether they dwelt in India or Persia or China, or in some other country, we believe in the truth of them, one and all.(Tohfa Qaisariya, Roohani Khazain Vol. 12 p.259) 

We hold great respect and affection for Jesus and Marry in our hearts. We wish “Marry Christmas” to all our Christen brothers and sisters. Also a blessed and prosperous New Year; peace and blessings of Allah be upon the entire humanity.

Some time ago, during a discussion with friend, we came to know of a woman from Australia, who’s sole mission was to unite all mankind at one point. I asked him that does she believe in a single entity, the central focus of the universe, – the Almighty God. If not, then how can she bring together and unite the entire humanity at one single point. Because unity requires a unit, an absolute single central point, extreme oneness, where mankind can be united, and that central unit is the Almighty God. As whole human body depends on its central unit – the heart, the entire mankind depends on the Unity and Oneness of God.

Can a state run when there is more than one leader? Can a human body function with more than one heart? Can a country have more than one capital city? Absolutely not, and any such system cannot be successful and will be a massive disaster. Similarly, there cannot be more than one central point that can unite people besides God Almighty. That is a philosophy and extreme reality that Islam presents when it speaks about the existence, absolute Unity and Oneness of God. The Holy Quran says:

If there had been in them (the heavens and the earth) other gods besides Allah, then surely both would have gone to ruin. Glorified then be Allah, the Lord of the Throne, above what they attribute. (21:23) 

Unity means that if God is Unique and One, then in His entire universe such unity will be visible. There will not be any need or presence of anything else, and consequently there willbe no clases., So as result, a complete system is present. And in light of this, extreme unity is visble in every respect of our universe.  To believe in more than one Creator, Master or God is a weakness in itself because it shows that the Creator/Master/God couldn’t create the universe on its own and needed the help on another creator.  Can the Creator/Master/God, who needed help to create the universe, be the Creator/Master/God of the well organised universe? Can a less powerful God help the weak and vulnerable? No, not at all! A weak and less powerful cannot be the Almighty and Supreme Master of the entire universe. Islam presents the absolute Unity and Oneness of God, the one Most Powerful, All Knowing, Almighty and unique in His attributes.  The Holy Quran states:

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say, ‘He is Allah, the One; ‘Allah, the Independent and Besought of all. ‘He begets not, nor is He begotten; ‘And there is none like unto Him. (The Holy Quran Chapter 112) 

The Holy Quran speaks about unique attributes of the oneness of God, as, ‘“Allah has the power to do all that He wills” (2:21); “Allah is of exceeding bounty” (2:106); “Allah sees all that you do.” (2:111), ‘All Knowing’, ‘Ever Merciful’, ‘Most Powerful’, ‘All Hearing’, etc. it states:

Allah — there is no God but He, the Living, the Self-Subsisting and All-Sustaining. Slumber seizes Him not, nor sleep. To Him belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. Who is he that will intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them; and they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He pleases. His knowledge extends over the heavens and the earth; and the care of them burdens Him not; and He is the High, the Great. (2:256) 

Dost thou not know that the kingdom of the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah alone? And there is no protector or helper for you beside Allah. (2:108) 

Islam presents such a great and merciful God, that there is none like Him. He is not as some believe that he used to listen and speak to human beings and now He has stopped, nor it presents the God who cannot afford to forgive the sins of His people. He is All Loving; His love for mankind is everlasting and un-ending. Not only did He speak and guide mankind in the past, but He will always speak and guide mankind in the present and future. Can a loving and caring shepherd ever leave his flock of sheep to go astray or die out of hunger or thirst? Then how can the All-Loving and Most Merciful God can stop speaking and guiding mankind and to let them go astray and to die without spiritual and divine guidance?

The Messiah, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani beautifully summarizes the Unity and Oneness of God, and His everlasting attributes, he writes:

The Qur’an teaches that by virtue of His excellences God is One, without associate.He suffers from no defect. He comprehends all good qualities and manifests all holy powers. He is the Originator of all creation and is the fountainhead of all grace. He is the Master of all recompense and everything returns to Him. He is near and yet far, and He is far and yet near. He is above all, but it cannot be said that there is someone below Him. He is more hidden than everything else is but it cannot be said that there is something more manifest than Him. He is Self-Existing in His Being and everything is alive through Him. He is Self-Sustaining and everything is sustained by Him. He supports everything and there is nothing that supports Him. There is nothing that has come into being on its own, or can live without Him on its own. He comprehends everything, but it cannot be said what is the nature of that comprehension. He is the Light of everything in heaven and earth and every light has shone forth from His hand and is a reflection of His Being. He is the Providence of the universe. There is no soul that is not sustained by Him and exists by itself. No soul has any power which it has not obtained from Him and which exists by itself.   [Lecture Lahore, Ruhani Khaza’in, Vol. 20, pp. 152-153] 

The superiority of Islam lies in this absolute Unity and Oneness of God, with all His attributes; a God who is most Powerful, Mighty and Omnipotent, the Supreme Master and Creator of all other beings.   The Messiah, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani writes about the beauty of God and appeals to mankind to come, recognise and love the Merciful and Gracious God. He says:

Our paradise lies in our God. Our highest delight is in our God for we have seen Him and have found every beauty in Him. This wealth is worth procuring though one might have to lay down one’s life to procure it. This ruby is worth purchasing though one may have to lose oneself to acquire it. O ye, who are bereft! run to this fountain and it will satisfy you. It is the fountain of life that will save you. What shall I do, and how shall I impress the hearts with this good news, and by beating what drum shall I make the announcement that this is our God, so that people might hear? What remedy shall I apply to the ears of the people so that they should listen? [Kashti Nuh, Ruhani Khaza’in, Vol. 19, pp. 21-22]

A string of bombs struck churches in five Nigerian cities on Sunday, leaving dozens dead and wounded on Christmas day – a time of celebration and religious activities; a very special day for all the Christians around the world. 

The blasts mark the second holiday season that bombs have hit Christian houses of worship in the West African nation. These acts of violence and hatred against innocent citizens are provocative and inhuman. 

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Malta strongly rejects, and unreservedly and categorically condemns such violent attacks on Churches – the places of worship, in Nigeria. 

The community said that these are no doubt, inhuman, heinous and cruel attacks, which should be condemned at every level. The Ahmadiyya Community condemns the attack in strongest terms, and demands the authorities to bring the culprits in front of justice as soon as possible”.

“We believe that, in this age, when certain powers, organisations and ideologies are engaged in destroying peace and when ill-feelings against each other are being sparked unnecessarily and walls of hatred are being erected in every part of the world and at every level possible, the objective of caring for the sentiments of each other, respecting other faiths, showing mutual tolerance and harmony and interreligious cooperation is all the more important. “

The Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Laiq Ahmed Atif calls all the people to exhibit their kindness to one another, to show love and affection and for renewing ties of brotherhood and kinship so that peace in the best possible manner can be established in our societies. He also says:

“There is no religion in the world – be it Islam, or Christianity, or Hinduism or for that matter any other faith – that advocates the destruction of peace. Each person likes peace and hates disorder. Every heart is inclined towards good deeds and every good-natured person wants the peace should be established in the world. Everyone is restless in attaining this objective of peace.”

The community expressed their deepest condolences to the victims’ families in this difficult time and pray for the health of those who were injured in this attack.

Fid-dinja tal-lum il-bniedem kiseb suċċess kbir f’kull qasam. Il-progress fit-teknoloġija hu enormi u l-ħajja tal-bniedem inbidlet kompletament. Dawn l-inven-zjonijiet huma kollha tajbin u għamlu l-bniedem iktar progressiv, soċjevoli u ċivilizzat.

Imma, sfortunatament, mill-banda l-oħra niltaqgħu ma’ elementi negattivi fil-ħajja tal-lum, fid-dinja moderna. Naraw żieda sostanzjali fix-xorb, fit-tipjip u fl-użu tad-drogi. Issib nies ta’ kull età u minn klassijiet soċjali differenti li huma dipendenti fuq xi vizzju. Anki ż-żgħażagħ li huma l-futur tas-soċjetà, huma wkoll involuti fis-sigaretti, fix-xorb kif ukoll fid-drogi.

L-użu ħażin tad-drogi hu problema kbira ħafna li d-dinja qiegħda tiffaċċja llum. Issib żgħażagħ li jitilfu ħajjithom minħabba d-drogi, it-tipjip u x-xorb. Numru ta’ familji jiġġarrfu u l-kriminalità qiegħda tiżdied.

Hemm ħafna nies li jaħsbu li x-xorb u t-tipjip m’għandhomx x’jaqsmu mad-drogi. Iżda jekk nanalizzaw is-sitwazzjoni mill-qrib u nkunu realistiċi, nistgħu ngħidu li l-problemi l-kbar tad-drogi jibdew mit-tipjip u mix-xorb. In-nies li huma nvoluti f’xi sitwazzjoni ħażina minħabba d-drogi, bdew mill-affarijiet żgħar u fl-aħħar spiċċaw f’qagħda ferm agħar.

Kull sena iktar minn sitt triljun sigarett jinbiegħu. U iktar minn sitt miljun ruħ imutu minħabba t-tipjip mad-war id-dinja; kull 6.5 sekondi jmut wieħed li jpejjep. Huwa stmat li kważi 1.3 biljun ruħ ipejpu madwar id-dinja. Possibbilment in-numru se jiżdied sa 6.5 miljun ruħ fl-2015 u 8.3 miljun fl-2030. 

Fl-Amerika biss hemm 46 miljun ruħ li jpejpu; u kważi 443,000 Amerikani jmutu minħabba t-tipjip kull sena. U fiċ-Ċina kważi 1.2 miljun persuna jmutu minħabba t-tipjip kull sena, jiġifieri 2,000 persuna kuljum. Mhux it-tipjip biss jagħmel ħsara lis-saħħa l-bniedem imma d-duħħan huwa wkoll perikoluż ħafna għal saħħitna. 

L-użu ħażin tal-alkoħol huwa fattur ta’ riksju kbir għall-mewt prematura u d-diżabilità fid-dinja. Skont ‘l-Organizzazzjoni Dinjija tas-Saħħa’ kważi 1.8 miljun persuna jmutu minħabba l-alkoħol madwar id-dinja. U madwar 2.5 miljun ruħ imutu mid-drogi direttament jew indirettament, kull sena madwar id-dinja.

Il-gvernijiet qegħdin jonfqu flus kbar biex jindrizzaw din il-problema u jiġġieldu l-gwerra kontra d-drogi u l-użu ħażin tagħhom. Imma sfor-tunatament huma ma jidhrux li qegħdin jirbħu din il-gwerra u n-numru ta’ nies li jabbużaw mid-drogi qed jiżdied kuljum. 

Ix-xorb, it-tipjip u d-drogi jagħmlu ħsara kbira fis-soċjetà, lis-saħħa, u lill-ekonomija tal-pajjiż. Nafu li l-abbuż huwa ħażin, imma l-mistoqsija hi: Għaliex in-nies qegħdin jersqu iktar lejn dawn il-vizzji aktar minn qatt qabel?

Hemm rapport dwar l-Ingilterra li juri li l-ġenituri jib-żgħu ħafna iktar li wliedhom jaqbdu l-vizzju tad-drogi milli jekk ikollhom xi arma. Erbgħa minn kull għaxar ġenituri qalu li l-użu tad-drogi huwa l-ikbar biża’ tagħhom għal uliedhom. 

L-istudji dwar id-drogi juru li n-nies jersqu lejhom minħabba dawk ir-raġunijiet: tiċħid u nuqqas ta’ xogħol, abbużi emozzjonali u fiżiċi, trawma, uġigħ, tensjoni, pressjoni, dwejjaq, sikkatura, kur-żità, esperimentazzjoni b’xi ħaġa ġdida, vizzju, drogi rħas u minħabba xi disponibbilità faċli għalihom. 

Dawn ir-raġunijiet juru li hemm vojt kbir fil-ħajja ta’ dawk li jaqgħu fil-vizzju. U n-nies jaħsbu li dan il-vizzju tat-tipjip, tax-xorb u tad-drogi se jagħtihom il-mistrieħ u s-serħan tal-moħħ. 

Però, fir-realtà huma jżidu l-problemi tagħhom u ma jnaqqsu xejn mill-problemi u mill-mard tagħhom; l-uġigħ tagħhom jibqa’ hemm, anki jiżdied.

Nemmen, li jekk l-użu eċċessiv ta’ xi ħaġa huwa ħażin, importanti li jkollna sens ta’ bilanċ u ma nħallux dawn id-drogi jeqirdu s-soċjetajiet tagħna. U kif ngħidu bl-Ingliż ‘nip the evil in the bud’; ejjew nagħmlu l-gwerra kontra tagħhom u ngħinu lil kull min għandu problema bl-alkoħol, bid-droga jew bit-tipjip biex itejjeb il-kwalità tal-ħajja kif inhu xieraq illum stess.

Unity and solidarity are the strength of a nation. And for the promotion and establishment of such high qualities a noble and great leadership is required. A leadership that can motivate its people about national matters, a leadership that can deliver.

On December 4, the streets of Malta witnessed a great sense of unity and solidarity behind the strong leadership of President George Abela. He once again proved that he is really a man of commitment and deliverance. For the third consecutive year he united the whole of Malta for a noble cause to show solidarity with needy brothers and sisters.

A record-breaking 11,000 people gathered on the streets to make this event a success. The enthusiasm, encouragement, readiness and high aims were seen clearly on every face. People of all ages, classes and backgrounds including families, couples, individuals, colleagues, friends and communities took part in the noble cause.

Everyone was ready and willing to extend his favours to others. Our benevolence is extended in such a manner that we consider it to be our duty or obligation and not a favour to others.

May God bless Dr Abela with a long, healthy and peaceful life. He said a few days ago that the spirit and joy of people filled him with great happiness and he was glad to see the entire nation united.

We pray, in his words, “J’Alla nibqgħu dejjem hekk!” Amen.

The Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad has sent a direct message to Pope Benedict XVI calling for the Pope to use his influence to encourage religious tolerance and the establishment of human values throughout the world.

The message was delivered personally by the President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Kababir, Muhammad Sharif Odeh, who met the Pope as part of an official delegation of renowned Israeli religious scholars.

In his message, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, spoke of the perilous state of the world. He said:

“It is with regret that if we now observe the current circumstances of the world closely, we find that the foundation for another world war has already been laid. As a consequence of so many countries having nuclear weapons, grudges and enmities are increasing and the world sits on the precipice of destruction.

I believe it is essential, that we urgently increase our efforts to save the world from this destruction. There is an urgent need for mankind to recognise its Creator as this is the only guarantor for the survival of humanity.”

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad also said that the world should judge religions on their true teachings, not on the misguided acts of individuals or groups. He said:

“If a person does not follow a particular teaching properly whilst claiming to subscribe to it, then it is he who is in error, not the teaching.

From cover to cover, the Holy Qur’an teaches love, affection, peace, reconciliation and the spirit of sacrifice. Hence, if anybody portrays Islam as an extreme and violent religion filled with teachings of bloodshed, then such a portrayal has no link with the real Islam.”

Speaking about the role of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community practises only the true Islam and works purely to please God Almighty. If any Church or other place of worship stands in need of protection, they will find us standing shoulder to shoulder with them. If any message resonates from our mosques it will only be that of Allah is great and that we bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Him and Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah.”

His Holiness concluded by praying for world peace and urging all other parties to play their respected roles for this all important pursuit. He said:

“It is my prayer that we all understand our responsibilities and play our role in establishing peace and love, and for the recognition of our Creator in the world. We ourselves have prayer, and we constantly beseech Allah that may this destruction of the world be avoided. I pray that we are saved from the destruction that awaits us.”

The Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector which is the National Coordinating Body for the European Year of Volunteering 2011 hosted as its highlight activity the European Tour, which was touring all European cities and finally came to a close in Malta. The tour consisted of various events, exhibitions, discussions, demonstrations and other activities. The event was organised by having a tent at the Old Bus Terminus, Valletta, Malta, between Monday 28^th November and the 5^th December, 2011.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta also participated in this event by setting a Book Stall for two days on Saturday 3^rd and Sunday 4^th December, 2011. Many people attended the event and showed their interest and got books.

The visitors were also offered booklets about the introduction and activities of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Malta, together with the leaflets with the message of Loyalty, Freedom, Respect, Equality and Peace. 

President George Abela was at the forefront of the run, whilst First Lady Margaret Abela lead a walk from Santa Venera.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta also showed its solidarity and participated in the President’s Charity Fun Run 2011. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat has a wonderful slogan of “Love for All, Hatred for None”, believes in serving mankind, and always tries its best to contribute for this noble cause.

Service to mankind is the essence of Islam. The Holy Quran places great emphasis on charitable works. The Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be on him, has said he was sent for two missions: “One for service of Allah and the other for the service of mankind”.

The Holy Quran states: “And do not forget to do good to one another” (2:233)

The Muslims celebrate Eid twice a year, Eid-ul-Fitr and the other, which comes about 10 weeks later, is called Eid-ul-Adha.

Eid-ul-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) is a festival comes about ten weeks after Eid-ul-Fitr, and marks the completion of Hajj (Holy pilgrimage to Mecca). It is the festival of Sacrifice that commemorate the obedience of Hadhrat Ibrahim and his son Hadhrat Ismail to the commandment of Allah. Hadhrat Ibrahim had a series of dreams in which he saw himself sacrificing his eldest son Ismail. He inferred that it was perhaps the will of God that he should sacrifice the life of his son.

Hadhrat Ibrahim, being most obedient to God, was about to sacrifice the life of his son Ismail, when God commanded him to stop and gave him the good news that he had indeed fulfilled His command. God was so pleased with Ibrahim because of his obedience that He multiplied his progeny into billions. He was also given the great honor of being the forefather of the Holy Prophet of Islam . On the day of Eid those Muslims who can afford to sacrifice an animal are enjoined to do so after Eid Prayer.

Għalhekk jgħidu li: ‘Iż-żgħa-żagħ tal-lum huma l-forza, it-tama u l-mexxejja ta’ għada’, għax huma l-futur tas-soċjetà, tal-pajjiż u tal-komunità. Iż-żgħażagħ huma l-forza tal-bidla u jistgħu jħeġġu l-gvernijiet biex jiddikjaraw il-prijo-ritajiet tagħhom. Iż-żgħażagħ għandhom ir-responsabbiltajiet importanti lejn pajjiżhom. Huwa importanti li nitgħallmu mill-passat u ngħixu bit-tama għal futur aħjar, għal futur li jixraq lil uliedna u lill-ġene-razzjonijiet ġejjiena.

Il-ġenerazzjoni futura għandha dover biex tkun onesta, ġenwina, ta’ valuri tajba u biex taħdem lejl u nhar biex is-soċjetà u l-pajjiż jimxu ’l quddiem. Iż-żgħażagħ għandhom dmir biex jużaw il-kapaċitajiet, il-qawwa, il-kreattività u l-imaġinazzjoni tagħhom biex iservu l-pajjiż u n-nazzjon mill-aqwa, kemm jistgħu. Dawn huma ż-żgħa-żagħ li jistgħu jagħmlu d-diffe-renza, għax huma s-sinsla tan-nazzjon u jistgħu jibnu futur sabiħ għas-soċjetà b’valuri u mġiba kuraġġuża.

Iż-żgħażagħ għandhom jiffokaw fuq l-istudji tagħhom, għax l-edukazzjoni hi l-aqwa strument lejn is-suċċess u l-futur li jixraq lil pajjiżna. Għandhom jiddedikaw ħin biżżejjed għall-istudji tagħ-hom. L-edukazzjoni fiżika u l-isport huwa wkoll importanti, u ż-żgħażagħ għandhom jipprattikaw xi sport għax is-saħħa hija wkoll importanti għall-progress. Jekk iż-żgħa-żagħ ikunu b’saħħithom, jistgħu jagħmlu iktar xogħol u iktar ħidma għall-fejda tal-pajjiż.

Il-ħin huwa prezzjuż u l-ħela tiegħu hija l-ħsara tal-futur, għalhekk, iż-żgħażagħ iridu jagħmlu minn kollox biex jużaw il-ħin prezzjuż tagħhom bil-għaqal. Ħafna drabi naraw li ż-żgħażagħ jaħlu l-ħin tagħ-hom mingħajr bżonn; joħorġu għal ħafna ħin bla bżonn, dan mhux tajjeb għax kull minuta tal-ħajja tagħhom hija impor-tanti. Għalhekk, nista’ ngħid li ż-żgħażagħ tal-lum huma l-unika tama ta’ għada, u għandhom dmir biex jifhmu l-importanza tagħhom u jaħdmu skont il-bżonn tal-ħin.

Iż-żgħażagħ tal-gżejjer tagħna mhumiex anqas miż-żgħa-żagħ ta’ pajjiżi oħrajn u huma kapaċi ħafna u għandhom opportunitajiet varji. Huma għandhom il-ħila, il-kapaċità, l-attitudni, is-saħħa, l-għerf u l-abbiltà kollha biex jagħmlu l-futur tal-pajjiż mill-aqwa.

Nemmen li l-ħajja u s-suċ-ċess tan-nazzjonijiet u l-futur ta’ suċċess kbir jinsab f’idejn il-ġenerazzjoni taż-żgħażagħ tal-lum. U jekk iż-żgħażagħ tal-lum għandhom valuri sodi, edukazzjoni mill-aqwa, saħħa tajba, prijorijatijiet sewwa, kompetenza u sinċerità kollha, allura nistgħu ngħidu li l-futur hu sabiħ. The death of Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi has closed a chapter of four decades’ rule and opened a new chapter of freedom and democracy. The new beginning has started and now the Libyan people have to focus on establishing peace, freedom, democracy and human rights for all with equality and justice.

No doubt, as Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said, “news of someone’s death is always ugly but for the Libyan people it means the start of a new chapter that we hope will translate into a better life”. Yes, that’s absolutely true and we hope for a flourishing, happy, free, equal and democratic new beginning for Libya.

My intention to write this piece is based on the support and solidarity offered by Dr Gonzi to the Libyan people. As he said: “The Maltese will help according to our capabilities”.

Malta’s strategic and geographical position in the Mediterranean plays an essential, crucial and important role in the region, economically, socially and politically. And Malta has always played its important role whenever certain situations cropped up. In the recent situations and conflicts in the neighbouring countries, Malta once again proved its strategic importance and played a great and sensible role – a role that is highly recognised and admired by the international communities and countries.

The US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton recognised this role by saying “Malta may be a small nation in size (but) its contributions to regional peace and security are significant”. UK Foreign Secretary William Hague expressed his gratitude and said: “How grateful we are for all the assistance we have received this year, humanitarian assistance, particularly during the evacuation of British nationals from Libya”. These are just to name a few, since this role and assistance was recognised and appreciated by many countries around the world.

Malta’s humanitarian support for the Libyan people was enormous, with a sense of sincerity, affection and service to mankind. And Malta has once again proved that a friend in need is a friend indeed! Throughout the conflict the Maltese people and their government played a vital role.

In the very beginning of the conflict Malta helped with the safe evacuation of people of different nationalities from Libya. The humanitarian aid given in the shape of food, water and medicine and the provision of medical treatment and assistance to the injured people in Maltese hospitals are really highly admirable.

Malta’s role in saving the lives of two pilots who fled to Malta after having refused to bomb their own people was also highly admired. It was a great step taken by the Maltese government when it refused to return the Mirage fighters and pilots back to Libya and granted them refuge in the country.

In brief, the Maltese government and people left no stone unturned to help and support the Libyan people. This great and sincere support should be written in golden words and remembered forever.

This wonderful document duty-bounds all those nations and states, who have signed and endorsed this valuable document, to follow all its articles including 18, which states: ‘Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.’ This article not only speaks about the free choice of religion, but also, clearly endorses the freedom to change any religion without any fear and punishment.

But, very unfortunately some Muslim-majority countries, despite the fact that they are the members of United Nations and have signed this document, impose the death penalty on those who disbelieve Islam and convert to any other religion. Recently, an Iranian court sentenced to death a Christian Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani, born in Muslim family, for apostasy. This case was appealed in the Supreme Court of Iran which ordered to retrial the case.

The irony is that there are many ordinary Muslims as well as their leaders and clerics who agree that a fellow Muslim who changes or abandons his or her faith should be hanged. And many even speak loudly, publicly also in media declaring those who change their faith liable to death.

Pastor Nadarkhani was arrested in October 2009 and has been held in Lakan Prison, Rasht, since being declared guilty of apostasy in September 2010. Nadarkhani was told that the death sentence would be annulled if he recanted his faith and returned to Islam. In appeal hearings, however, the pastor has refused to give up his Christian faith.

I believe that Nadarkhani should not have to pay any price for his freedom of faith; instead he should be released immediately and should be free to practice any faith he wishes. It is extremely amazing and frustrating that how can these Iranian (or any other Muslim) clerics enforce someone to believe in the religion they have chosen for themselves with their free will. Isn’t this so strange that when God did not force anyone to believe in any religion and declared ‘there should be no compulsion in religion’ and these clerics are imposing their ideas on others and are depriving others from their freedom and free will.

The Iranian courts are not only violating laws of their country as their being no such crime under Iran’s penal code, and their religion but they are also violating the international law. Their acts are also in violation of the ‘Universal Declaration of Human Rights’, the document Iran has signed and is duty-bound to abide by all its articles, morally and legally; and is a grave injustice. So, we appeal and call upon the Iranian government to stop itself from such injustices and violation of human dignity, rights and freedom and to release Pastor Yousef Nadarkahni and honour his freedom and liberty.

“Relate of your dead only that which is good, and refrain from speaking ill of them.” (Holy Prophet Muhammad, sa)

Death is an integral part of life and death is as real as life. Nothing is so certain as the fact that for all of us there will come a time when our life on this earth will end and our minds will no longer function. The life of a human being is limited on this earth and everyone has to leave this world to join the hereafter. Allah Almighty says:

“Allah has created death and life that He may try which of you is best in conduct. He is the Mighty, the Most Forgiving.” (Holy Quran 67:3) “God replied, ‘I will inflict My punishment on whom I will; but My mercy encompasses all things.” (Holy Quran 7:157)

Janaza Service (Funeral service)

The transitions from this world to the next and the disposal of a deceased are serious matters in all cultures and religions. In Islam death is treated with great respect and dignity. A deceased Muslim is due utmost respect and his body is handled according to the Sunnah (action) of the Holy Prophet, peace be on him. The body is given a ritual bath, and wrapped in two white sheets before being put in a coffin. Once it is prepared, the funeral service is held. The Imam leads the Funeral prayer, with the mourners standing in rows behind him. After this, the body is buried in a graveyard. Cremation is not permitted in Islam.

Before the advent of Islam people used to disrespect and dishonour the dead bodies of their enemies, they used to tear the dead bodies into pieces. Islam strongly condemned such actions and declared strong prohibition of any such actions. And taught its followers to show extreme dignity and honour to the dead, not only to their own but to each and every human being who dies.

Once when a funeral procession went by the Holy Prophet, peace be on him, he stood up to show dignity and respect, and those with him followed his example. Someone said: Messenger of Allah, this is the funeral cortege of a Jewish woman. He observed: Death is a matter of grief and awe, therefore, when you see any funeral passing you should stand up as a token of respect.

This is a true teaching of Islam and beautiful conduct of its Holy Founder. Below are some saying of the Holy Prophet (peace be on him), in reference to the dignity of dead. He said:

1. “You are bound to be overtaken by death and then you will be either distressed or happy.
2. When a person dies, all his actions cease except through a charity, the benefit of which is continuous, or a legacy of knowledge which benefits others, or righteous progeny who pray for him.
3. Relate of your dead only that which is good, and refrain from speaking ill of them.
4. Speak not ill of the dead or you will cause pain to the living.
5. Do not sit over a grave, nor face towards it when you are praying.
6. He who joins a funeral procession and takes three turns to help carry the bier has discharged his obligation to the dead.” (Wisdom of the Holy Prophet: P.64)

The issue of blasphemy is a hot issue that remains in news particularly in Pakistan. In 2010, a Christian woman Asia Bibi, who was charged with blasphemy in Pakistan, made the international headlines. But charging Asia Bibi under the blasphemy law did not apparently quench the radical thirst of the clerics of Pakistan. A Muslim cleric offered $6,000 to a person who would kill Asia Bibi. Tragically, the late governor of Punjab, Salman Taseer, who visited Asia Bibi in prison, was later gunned down by his own security guard, Mumtaz Qadri. Salman Taseer’s crime was to speak up for the victims of blasphemy law. The insanity continued unabated when after few weeks of the murder of Salman Taseer, a Catholic and Minister for minorities, Shahbaz Bhatti, was assassinated allegedly over his stance on blasphemy laws. The issue of blasphemy has once again reared its ugly head: the death penalty imposed by antiterrorism court against Mumtaz Qadri, the murderer of Salman Taseer, has been reversed.

The issue of blasphemy is not a new phenomenon. The instances of blasphemy are found throughout recorded human history. The Holy Quran, for example, points out very clearly that all the prophets and messengers of God were persecuted, harmed, abused and mocked, not only during their life time but also after their demise. “Alas for My servants! There comes not a Messenger to them but they mock at him.” (36:31) “Then We sent Our Messengers one after another. Every time there came to a people their Messenger, they treated him as a liar.” (23:45) Noah, Abraham, Lot, Saleh, Shuaib, Moses and Jesus, peace be on them all, just to name a few, were all mocked and blasphemed by their enemies and opponents.

Questions naturally arise: How did Prophets react to blasphemy? Did they ever punish the blasphemers? What was the end of those mockers and blasphemers?

The Holy Quran clearly speaks about the treatment of those mockers and enemies of God’s prophets; “And surely, Messengers have been mocked at before thee; but I granted respite to those who disbelieved. Then I seized them, and how was then My punishment!” (13:23) “And Messengers indeed have been rejected before thee; but notwithstanding their rejection and persecution they remained patient until Our help came to them. There is none that can change the words of Allah.” (6:35)

These verses make it abundantly clear and manifest that all the messengers observed extreme patience whenever they were blasphemed and they never tried to punish or respond to those blasphemers violently. All those mockers, blasphemers and enemies faced deadly consequences.

Another common element in their stories is that all the enemies were punished by God, and this is one supreme reality that can never change; “There is none that can change the words of Allah” (6:35).

Alas! This blasphemy did not stop even at the time when the sun of eternal truth rose over the skies of the Arab peninsula and the world was soon to bask in the light of the message of Muhammad, may peace be on him. The one waited for thousands of years, prophesied by thousands of prophets, and for whom the whole world was created and who was the clear manifestation and reflection of the full glory of the Creator. The one who was titled by the Almighty God as “mercy for all the worlds”, our beloved Master and Lord, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw), endured every form of punishment, torture, persecution, blasphemy, mockery and torment suffered by the earlier prophets and messengers. He was called “the one most mean” (63:9), he was treated as a ‘liar’ (35:26), he was labelled as a ‘fabricator’ (16:102) and he was called as ‘madman’ (15:7).

He was also physically tortured, persecuted and blasphemed. “The Prophet was stoned by ruffians and vagabonds and was chased and pelted by urchins till the cobblestones of Taif ran red with his blood. And at the battle-ground of Uhud the Prophet was seriously wounded.” (Murder in the Name of Allah p. 6)

His followers were severely persecuted and the land became very tight and narrow for them… They were laid out in the blazing sun, heavy stones were put on their chests, they were dragged through the streets like dead animals and chattels, they were socially boycotted, and they were forced to live in a valley for three long and hard years. They were deprived of all their freedom, property and belongings. Their dead bodies were cut asunder; the liver of the Prophet’s uncle Hamzah, may Allah be pleased with him, was even eaten. Pregnant women were thrown off camels.

The Holy Quran states: “Verily, those who malign Allah and His Messenger — Allah has cursed them in this world and in the Hereafter, and has prepared for them an abasing punishment. And those who malign believing men and believing women for what they have not earned shall bear the guilt of a calumny and a manifest sin.” (33:58-59)

How clearly the Holy Quran has mentioned the fate of the opponents of God and His Messenger that God alone has the authority to punish those who malign, mock or blaspheme God and His prophets. God did not permit anyone, not even the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) to punish such people.

Unfortunately, many people around the world including many Muslims believe that blasphemy is a worldly punishable act, and Muslims are duty-bound to punish mockers and blasphemers. They believe that if someone speaks against God, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw), the Holy Quran and Islam he must be punished with death penalty.

However, the reality completely differs from such concepts and the Islam taught by our beloved Master Muhammad (saw) speaks of no worldly punishment whatsoever against blasphemy. No question of death or anything else for that matter. The Holy Quran has provided a clear guidance on this matter and states: “…when you hear the Signs of Allah being denied and mocked at, sit not with them until they engage in a talk other than that; for in that case you would be like them” (Ch.4 v.141)

It should be noted that instead of punishing the blasphemers, believers are advised to leave the company of such people until they change their discussion.

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) through his practices made it absolutely clear that there is no worldly punishment for blasphemy and the matter rests in the hands of Almighty Allah.

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) once owed money to a Jew. The Jew came to him mistakenly thinking that the amount was overdue, and confronted the Holy Prophet (saw) and demanded his money using very harsh and blasphemed words and accused him of not honoring his promise. He also insulted the Holy Prophet (saw) and also his tribe. Hadhrat Umar (ra), who was also there, extremely annoyed and perhaps was about to strike him. The Holy Prophet (saw) stopped him for doing so and said: “Umar (ra), you should have behaved differently”. He didn’t even let Umar (ra) to speak harsh words to the Jew. This was the Holy Prophet’s (saw) behavior when openly insulted and blasphemed in the company of his companions.

As mentioned earlier, when the Holy Prophet (saw) went to Taif for preaching them the message of God, they mocked at him, blasphemed him and tortured him and his whole body was ripped red with blood. God sent his angle to ask him if he wishes the whole village should be tore into pieces. That was an opportunity for him to say yes to teach a lesson to the rest that if anyone blasphemes him, he can be punished or destroyed. But, our beloved Master Muhammad (saw) instead punishing those mockers and blasphemers prayed for them to God “My Lord! Forgive them, because they don’t recognise me”.

The history of mankind also witnessed those moments when the Holy Prophet (saw) – the King of Peace, entered into Mecca as a victorious and declared an open forgiveness::

“By God, you will have no punishment today and no reproof” (Hisham). He forgave all his enemies including Ikrama son of Abu Jehal the leader of opponents and Hinda who tore the chest of the Holy Prophet’s (saw) uncle Hamzah (ra) and ate his liver out of spite, after he was martyred during the battle of Uhad. He also forgave Habbar who had murdered several Muslims including the murder of the Holy Prophet’s (saw) daughter Zainab (ra). He also pardoned Abu Sufyan, one of his greatest enemies who also led many wars against him..

One cannot describe in detail the enormities, atrocities, blasphemous behaviour committed against Islam and the Holy Prophet (saw). Yet how easily the Holy Prophet (saw) forgave them!

Let me also quote a particular incident which took place during the life of the Holy Prophet (saw), also briefly recorded in the Holy Quran, and alone can refute the idea of punishing the blasphemers. No Muslim can claim to know Islam more than the Holy Prophet (saw), so, let us have the true understanding of this issue from him directly and let us see how he treated with blasphemers.

“Before the Holy Prophet’s (sa) arrival in Medina, there was a prominent leader who by the consensus of Medinite, was rising to be their joint leader. His name was Abdullah Bin Obey Bin Salul. After the Prophet’s (sa) arrival things gradually changed and instead of Abdullah, the Holy Prophetsa was accepted by the common consensus of people as their new leader. This made Abdullah Bin Obey Bin Salul extremely jealous. He went on giving voice to his injured feelings in one way or another. His behaviour was such that the other Muslims referred to him as the chief monaafiq, meaning the chief of hypocrites. 

Once, when returning from an expedition which was overall a failure and all participants were extremely tired and disappointed, this man Abdullah, thought it a fit time to take his revenge. In the presence of a few people, he declared that upon returning to Medina, the noblest among them would turn out in disgrace the meanest of them. The message was clear and everyone knew what he meant. Hadhrat Umar (ra), upon hearing this, asked permission of the Holy Prophet (sa) to kill this man; he said that the insult on the person of the Holy Prophet (sa) was far too much for them to tolerate. But the Holy Prophet (sa) did not allow any retribution. 

It is reported that after this, Abdullah’s own son also approached the Holy Prophet (sa) and said: “Oh Messenger of God, perhaps you thought that if you had permitted someone else to kill my father, I being his son, may harbour a private sense of revenge. However my father deserves this punishment for the insult he has hurled against you, so please permit me to slay him.” The Holy Prophet (sa) smiled and said: “No, there is nothing to be done. Your father will not be punished by anyone.” 

They all returned to Medina and for many years this man lived in peace under the full protection of the Holy Founder (sa) of Islam, against whom he had blasphemed. When he died, the Holy Prophet (sa) decided to lead his funeral prayers. This was a bit too much for some of his companions. Umar (ra) reports that he blocked his passage and said: “Is he not the leader of the hypocrites? Is he not the one about whom God has said that even if you ask forgiveness for him seventy times, he would not be forgiven? Then why O Prophet of God, who is the recipient of all these revelations, have you decided to lead his funeral prayer?’; The answer was: “Umar, get aside; if God has informed me that he would not forgive the hypocrites even if I prayed for them seventy times, I would pray much more than that in the hope that Allah will ultimately forgive them”. 

Such was the character of the Holy Founder (sa) of Islam. He was a man of extreme compassion, a man of principles, a man who lived a life of truth and nothing but the truth.” (The Seal of Prophets Pages 33-34; edition 2003)

The teachings of the Holy Quran and the examples of the life of the Holy Prophet (saw) refute all the misconceptions and misunderstanding about the punishment of blasphemy by any human being or any state; and entirely leave the authority in the hands of God, and this is a supreme reality and commandment of God and ‘there is none that can change the words of Allah.’

Article 1: All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.

Article 2: Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.

Article 3: Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.

Article 4: No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.

Article 5: No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

Article 6: Everyone has the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law.

Article 7: All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law. All are entitled to equal protection against any discrimination in violation of this Declaration and against any incitement to such discrimination.

Article 8: Everyone has the right to an effective remedy by the competent national tribunals for acts violating the fundamental rights granted him by the constitution or by law.

Article 9: No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.

Article 10: Everyone is entitled in full equality to a fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal, in the determination of his rights and obligations and of any criminal charge against him.

Article 11: (1) Everyone charged with a penal offence has the right to be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law in a public trial at which he has had all the guarantees necessary for his defence. (2) No one shall be held guilty of any penal offence on account of any act or omission which did not constitute a penal offence, under national or international law, at the time when it was committed. Nor shall a heavier penalty be imposed than the one that was applicable at the time the penal offence was committed.

Article 12: No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks.

Article 13: (1) Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state. (2) Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country.

Article 14: (1) Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution. (2) This right may not be invoked in the case of prosecutions genuinely arising from non-political crimes or from acts contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations.

Article 15: (1) Everyone has the right to a nationality.  (2) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his nationality nor denied the right to change his nationality.

Article 16: (1) Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution. (2) Marriage shall be entered into only with the free and full consent of the intending spouses.  (3) The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State.

Article 17: (1) Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others. (2) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property.

Article 18: Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.

Article 19: Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

Article 20: (1) Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association. (2) No one may be compelled to belong to an association.

Article 21: (1) Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives. (2) Everyone has the right of equal access to public service in his country. (3) The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this will shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures.

Article 22: Everyone, as a member of society, has the right to social security and is entitled to realization, through national effort and international co-operation and in accordance with the organization and resources of each State, of the economic, social and cultural rights indispensable for his dignity and the free development of his personality.

Article 23: (1) Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favourable conditions of work and to protection against unemployment. (2) Everyone, without any discrimination, has the right to equal pay for equal work. (3) Everyone who works has the right to just and favourable remuneration ensuring for himself and his family an existence worthy of human dignity, and supplemented, if necessary, by other means of social protection. (4) Everyone has the right to form and to join trade unions for the protection of his interests.

Article 24: Everyone has the right to rest and leisure, including reasonable limitation of working hours and periodic holidays with pay.

Article 25: (1) Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control. (2) Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance. All children, whether born in or out of wedlock, shall enjoy the same social protection.

Article 26: (1) Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory. Technical and professional education shall be made generally available and higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit. (2) Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and shall further the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace. (3) Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children.

Article 27: (1) Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits. (2) Everyone has the right to the protection of the moral and material interests resulting from any scientific, literary or artistic production of which he is the author.

Article 28: Everyone is entitled to a social and international order in which the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration can be fully realized.

Article 29: (1) Everyone has duties to the community in which alone the free and full development of his personality is possible. (2) In the exercise of his rights and freedoms, everyone shall be subject only to such limitations as are determined by law solely for the purpose of securing due recognition and respect for the rights and freedoms of others and of meeting the just requirements of morality, public order and the general welfare in a democratic society. (3) These rights and freedoms may in no case be exercised contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations.

Article 30: Nothing in this Declaration may be interpreted as implying for any State, group or person any right to engage in any activity or to perform any act aimed at the destruction of any of the rights and freedoms set forth herein.

Blasphemy means behavior or language that shows disrespect for any prophet or any religion. Blasphemy not only hurts the religious sensibilities of others, but it also disturbs the peace and harmony of any society and even causes law and order problems. No doubt, the freedom of speech is necessary for the progress and development of a society. But this freedom must not be used to insult religions. That is why Islam forbids blasphemy but does not prescribe any worldly punishment for it. The Holy Qur’an tells us that there has been no Prophet in respect of whom derogatory words were not used.

“But there never came to them a Prophet but they mocked at him.” (Ch.43 v.8)

“Then We sent Our Messengers one after another. Every time there came to a people their Messenger; they treated him as a liar …” (Ch.23 v.45)

“Alas for My servants! There comes not a Messenger to them but they mock at him.” (Ch.36 v.31)

The Holy Qur’an mentions many blasphemous utterances of the nonbelievers and hypocrites against the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa) without mentioning any physical punishment for perpetrators. Allah advised the Holy Prophet (sa):

“We will, surely, suffice thee against those who mock” (Ch.15 v.96)

“And follow not the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and leave alone their annoyance, and put thy trust in Allah; for Allah is sufficient as a Guardian.” (Ch.33 v.49)

“Bear patiently then what they say …” (Ch.20 v.131)

“You shall surely be tried in your possessions and in your persons and you shall surely hear many hurtful things from those who were given the Book before you and from those who set up equals to God. But if you show fortitude and act righteously, that indeed is a matter of strong determination.” (3:187)

Instead of killing the blasphemers, the believers were advised to leave the company of such men, until they change the topic of their talk.

“And He has already revealed to you in the Book that, when you hear the Signs of Allah being denied and mocked at, sit not with them until they engage in a talk other than that; for in that case you would be like them. Surely, Allah will assemble the hypocrites and the disbelievers in Hell, all together;” (Ch.4 v.141)

We have evidence in the traditions of the Holy Prophet (saw) where Abdullah bin Ubayyee (Chief of the hypocrites) continuously abused the Prophet (saw), and opposed him severely in Madinah.

When he passed away, the Prophet (saw) stood to offer his funeral prayers but was asked by one of his companions, “O Allah’s Apostle! Do you offer the prayer for this man although he said so-and-so on such-and-such-a day?” and “that he is a hypocrite!”
The Prophet (saw) ignored his statements and continued to offer the funeral prayers of the dead man. (Sahih Bukhari, Volume 6, Book 60, Number 192)

The above example shows that the Prophet (saw) never ordered any punishment for anyone who insulted or abused him or God; on the contrary he went to pray for them that they be guided aright.

If somebody uses foul language against any holy person or teaching, Islam advises to keep away from such people as The Holy Qur’an says,

“And when you see those who trifle with our signs then turn thou away from them until then engage in a discourse other than that and if Satan cause thee to forget then sit not, after recollection, with the unjust people.”   (Ch.6: V.69)

Hadhrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad (ra) the IV Caliph of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community says:

“There is no such punishment for blasphemy in the Holy Quran or in the Traditions of the Holy Prophet of Islam. Blasphemy against God is mentioned in the Holy Quran in the following words: ‘And abuse not those whom they call upon besides Allah, lest they, out of spite abuse Allah in their ignorance.’ (Ch. 6:109)

No authorization has been granted to any man to inflict any punishment for blasphemy against God. Blasphemy was committed by Jews against Mary, the mother of Christ^as. It has been mentioned in the Holy Quran, where it says: ‘And for their disbelief and for their uttering against Mary a grievous calumny.’ (Ch.4:151)

Again no punishment other than by God Himself is prescribed.” (Murder in the name of Religion)

“What is sin? It is to go against the will of God and to violate His instructions given to mankind through prophets and especially through the Holy Prophet [Muhammad], sallallaho alaihi wa sallam. Sin is to reject boldly the guidance that is given to them and which they have understood properly. He who violates the commandments of God in connection with this guidance and acts mischievously attracts the wrath. The consequences of this temerity and boldness is not only this much that he will go to the hell in the next world; in this world also he will have to taste punishment and he will be humiliated.

Same is the case with the authorities that be in the worldly affairs. They promulgate a law and make it known to the people. Later on whoever is found violating it, he is charged and punished. But so far as the punishment of the worldly laws is concerned, one can manoeuver to leave that domain and go elsewhere and get rid of them. For example if one violates the law of the British Government, he can run to France or to the domain of Kabul and thus he can save himself from the punishment. But where can a man flee after the violation of the commandments of God, for, the earth and the sky that we see belong to Him. There is no earth and no sky elsewhere; belonging to someone else where one may seek refuge. This is why it is very essential that one must always have the fear of God and never show boldness in violating His commandments. Sin is a very bad thing and when a man becomes bold and does not fear the violation of the commandments, then the wrath of God descends on him in this world as well as in the next world.” (Malfoozat vol. 6, pg. 392)
