The Church of St Mary of the Angels, Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq, in collaboration with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Malta, organized an Interfaith Fasting Event on Friday, 27th February 2026, at the parvis of the Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq church.

The event was very well attended, with participants warmly embracing the interfaith spirit and expressing appreciation for this meaningful manifestation of unity, brotherhood, collaboration, harmony, and peace. Children from diverse religious and faith communities delivered a heartfelt and colourful presentation, sharing reflections and messages centered on fasting, togetherness, peace, respect, and love for others.

The programme continued with addresses by Rev. Dr Joseph Ellul OP, Chairperson of the Archdiocesan Commission for Interreligious Dialogue; Imam Laiq Ahmed Atif, Imam and President of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta; and Rev. Mark Ciantar OFM, Rector of Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq church. The event concluded with a keynote address by H.E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, President Emeritus of Malta.

In their speeches, the speakers emphasized the vital importance of interfaith harmony in contemporary times, when division, conflict, and war continue to challenge the peaceful coexistence of humanity. They highlighted prayer, unity, brotherhood, and compassion as core values underpinning the spiritual significance of fasting. Special emphasis was also placed on the importance of engaging youth and children in such initiatives, recognizing them as the future of the nation.

The evening concluded with a shared dinner featuring a variety of traditional cuisines. This provided participants with an opportunity to build new connections and renew their commitment to fostering a vibrant, peaceful, and harmonious society in Malta.
