Letter to President of the Islamic Republic of Iran

Dear Mr President,

Assalamo Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahe Wa Barakatohu,

In light of the perilous state of affairs emerging in the world, I felt that it was essential for me to write to you, as you are the President of Iran, and thus you hold the authority to make decisions which will affect the future of your nation and the world at large. There is currently great agitation and restlessness in the world. In some areas small-scale wars have broken out, while in other places the superpowers act on the pretext of trying to bring about peace. Each country is engaged in activities to either help or oppose other countries, but the requirements of justice are not being fulfilled.  It is with regret that if we now observe the current circumstances of the world, we find that the foundation for another world war has already been laid. As so many countries, both large and small, have nuclear weapons, grudges and hostilities are increasing. In such a predicament, the Third World War looms almost certainly before us. As you are aware, the availability of nuclear weapons will mean that a Third World War will be an atomic war. Its ultimate result will be catastrophic, and the long term effects of such warfare could lead to future generations being born disabled or deformed.

It is my belief that as followers of the Holy Prophet Muhammad(pbuh), who was sent to establish peace in the world, and who was the Rahmatullil  Aalameen – the Mercy to all of Mankind –we do not and cannot desire for the world to suffer such a fate. This is why my request to you is that as Iran is also a significant power in the world, it should play its role to prevent a Third World War. It is undeniably true that the major powers act with double standards. Their injustices have caused restlessness and disorder to spread all across the world. However, we cannot ignore the fact that some Muslim groups act inappropriately, and contrary to the teachings of Islam. Major world powers have used this as a pretext to fulfil their vested interests by taking advantage of the poor Muslim countries. Thus, I request you once again, that you should focus all of your efforts and energies towards saving the world from a Third World War. The Holy Qur’an teaches Muslims that enmity against any nation should not hinder them from acting in a just manner. In Surah Al Mai’dah, Allah the Exalted instructs us:

“And let not the enmity of a people, that they hindered you from the Sacred Mosque, incite you to transgress. And help one another in righteousness and piety; but help not one another in sin and transgression. And fear Allah; surely, Allah is severe in punishment.” (Ch.5:V.3)

Similarly, in the same chapter of the Holy Qur’an we find the following commandment to Muslims:

“O ye who believe! Be steadfast in the cause of Allah, bearing witness in equity; and let not a people’s enmity incite you to act otherwise than with justice. Be always just, that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah. Surely, Allah is aware of what you do.”(Ch.5:V.9)

Hence, you should not oppose another nation merely out of enmity and hatred. I admit that Israel exceeds beyond its limits, and has its eyes cast glance upon Iran. Indeed, if any country transgresses against your country, naturally you have the right to defend yourself. However, as far as possible disputes should be resolved through diplomacy and negotiations. This is my humble request to you, that rather than using force, use dialogue to try and resolve conflicts. The reason why I make this request is because I am the follower of that Chosen Person of God who came in this era as the True Servant of the Holy Prophet Muhammad(pbuh), and who claimed to be the Promised Messiah and Imam Mahdi. His mission was to bring mankind closer to God and to establish the rights of people in the manner our Master and Guide, the Rahmatullil Aalameen –the Mercy to all of Mankind – the Holy Prophet(pbuh)demonstrated to us. May Allah the Exalted enable the Muslim Ummah to understand this beautiful teaching.

Bridging Cultures – Laiq Ahmed Atif

Laiq Ahmed Atif practises what he preaches – Love for All, Hatred for None.

“On my flight to Malta from Germany, I prayed a lot – because Malta was a completely new country for me, I prayed that God gives me courage and wisdom to get to know the Maltese people,” says Laiq Ahmed Atif, 30, from Pakistan.

“As soon as I was out of Malta International Airport, I felt comfortable – I knew that Malta would be my second home.”

Atif has been in Malta for four years and is the president of an organisation called Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta. He is married to Bushra and they have two children – a boy and a girl.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta, with headquarters in the UK, offers solidarity to all peoples from all cultures and religions. The organisation is present in almost 200 countries and has over 160 million members worldwide.

“There are a lot of branches in Islam. In Ahmadiyya, we believe that the Messiah and Mahdi (guide), who according to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would come to reform Islam, has already come.”

The motto of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta is ‘Love for all, hatred for none’.

“When we help people, we help human beings – we don’t look at race, religion or culture,” says Atif. Atif has worked hard to integrate.

“The Maltese people have a kind heart and that helped me integrate fast,” he says. Atif has also learned Maltese. “I wanted to learn the language so that I can act as a bridge for cultural diversity and religious harmony in Malta,” he says.

“I remember how, when Atif first came to Malta, he would read all the papers and watch the news so that he could understand the Maltese culture,” says Justin Schembri, who teaches Atif Maltese. “He wanted to learn about the Maltese culture before he actually started participating.

“When I met Atif, there was a connection between us – we were not just teacher and student, but we also became friends.

“Atif managed to integrate so well in Malta because he is a very friendly and respectful man – he seeks friendship with everyone,” Justin says.

“Integration is very important, especially in our globalised world” says Atif. “We cannot be isolated from others, and we must respect diversity – diversity is what makes the world beautiful.

“As a Muslim, it is my responsibility to love Malta as the country where I live. I do not want to be a burden on this country – rather, I want to be part of it.”

Integration

Laiq Ahmed Atif, president Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta was also among the panel who addressed the Press Conference called by SOS Malta, to launch a project to mainstream the integration and diversity of third-country nationals through the media. Laiq Ahmed Atif said that the true integration is not only possible but highly essential for the progress and betterment of Malta, he also highlighted some points about the rights and obligations for the effective integration.

As we all know, that the world has emerged as a glabal viallage, an undeniable realty. Today people frequently travell to different places, and are settling in different countries. Migration is also a phenomenon, not only human beings, but also the other creatures such as birds, migrate from one place to other, due to certain circumstances.

Some migrate for having good future, some migrate to settle or improve their businesses, some migrate to escape hardships of their countries, and some migrate to save their lives from religious persecutions, just to name a few. And in today’s world it looks very difficult to deny or eliminate every sort of migration; however, to make a positive use, it is possible and highly essential. In September 2006, the 132 Member States that participated in General Assembly reaffirmed that:

  1. Migration could make a positive contribution in development, in countries of origin and countries of destination
  2. They emphasised on the respect and fundamental rights of the migrants
  3. They recognized the importance of strengthening international cooperation

I believe that integration is not only possible but it is highly essential for the betterment and progress of a society.

Integration is a two way process: Two Categories – Rights and Obligations 

  1. Responsibilities of a country or society in which migration takes place:
  • Establishment of Human dignity,
  • Fundamental human rights and acceptance of the migrants.
  • Host nation should honour the culture and religion of its immigrants.
  • RIGHTS: Their rights are that their traditions, cultural, religion and laws of the land must be respected and honoured 
  1. Duties and responsibilities of the immigrants:
  • They must reciprocate respect and love; and become grateful to their hosts
  • They must abide by the law,
  • They should respect the customs, traditions and culture of the host country,
  • They make their contribution in the progress and betterment of the country
  • They must become willing to integrate, and to adopt all of the good things that this country has to offer. 

Migration to Medina as an Example: 

Here I quote a wonderful example of migration, which to me is really exemplary and that is the migration of Muslims from Mecca to Medina, because of hardships and persecution in their homeland. When they migrated to Medina their hosts welcomed them with open arms and offered them full support and help, and showed them great respect and dignity. The Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be on him, established “Brotherhood” between hosts and migrants which is known as “Brotherhood of Medina”. 

The immigrants did not take whatever was offered to them as their right, but they fully shouldered their responsibilities. They worked id f’id with the local communities, they respected their hosts, other religions and communities and the law of the land; and rather than becoming burden they in a very short period of time they started contributing in the society and economy of the state. 

I think if both the host and migrants work with this spirit they can be useful and can contribute a lot to Malta. Here to make it clear that I am not promoting it, but just highlighting the points and aspects that can be useful for the progress of the country. 

Media’s Role in integration: 

As far as the role of media is concern, I think media can play a great role in integration:

1.  By covering the immigrants in positive light and showing their useful contributions to the society; because every human being has abilities and has something to offer.

2.  By showing the lives of well integrated immigrants with their local friends.

3.  By organising Interfaith dialogues; cultural events; and media can give coverage to their activities, and can encourage them to be part of the society

4.Programs to teach immigrants about Malta’s history, culture, heritage and language

5.  Covering the countries from which immigrants are coming in some positive light from the perspectives of tourism 

6. Media can highlight positive aspects of their culture, traditions, customs and values; because every people have some good cultures, e.g. in Pakistan, in the Sindh province to which I belong to, has a very good culture that in a bus male always offer and vacate their seats to women, and there rarely one finds a woman standing in a bus. These sort of positive aspect will also give chance to find and learn something positive from each other.
7.  Highlighting the common humanity of all of us.

Our Community, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, always integrates very well in every country, and in Malta we are also very well integrated. 

Here I would like to conclude with a quote of Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Current Supreme Head of the Worldwide Ahmadiyya Community; he says: 

“There should be no compulsion in religion. Jews should be able to practice their religion freely; Christians should be able to practice their religion freely and Muslims likewise. However where the interests of the country are at stake then all citizens should work together for the betterment of the nation…”

 “To be integrated it is necessary to believe the country you live in is your own and you must desire for it to succeed. Your relationship should be with the country not just with individuals within it. This is true integration.”

Muslim leader warns of devastating consequences of nuclear war

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad also sends congratulations to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II upon Diamond Jubilee

Last night, the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Fifth Khalifa, spoke at length about the perilous state of the world and the impending threat of a nuclear war.

Whilst addressing the 9th Annual Peace Symposium, held at the Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden and organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in the UK, His Holiness also sent a message of congratulations and prayers to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II upon the Diamond Jubilee.

The event attracted an audience of more than 1,000 people, including Government Ministers, Ambassadors of State, Members of both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the Mayor of London and various other dignitaries and guests from all walks of life. The theme of this year’s Symposium was ‘International Peace’.

In his welcome address, Rafiq Hayat, the National President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in the UK said that under the leadership of its Khalifa, the Ahmadiyya Community was constantly engaged in promoting values of peace, tolerance and loyalty to one’s country.

Siobhain McDonagh, MP for Mitcham & Morden and Chair of the UK All Party Parliamentary Group for the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, said that though progress had been made, there was still a much to achieve in terms of making sure that all people around the world were granted religious freedom.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, thanked the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat for‘contributing in so many ways’ towards promoting peace and tolerance in London and bringing people together. He pledged to always support the Jamaat and its charitable work.

Rt Hon Ed Davey MP, Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change, said that Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad was a ‘ great leader for peace’. He also spoke about the risk of climate change and its effects on food and water security in the world.

Stephen Hammond MP, read out a message from Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, in which he praised the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat for promoting tolerance throughout Britain’s communities.

Andrew Stunnell OBE MP, said the UK Government very much appreciated the efforts of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat towards promoting charitable works and community cohesion. He said it was his first visit to the Baitul Futuh Mosque and found it to be a ‘very impressive building’ .

Councillor Stephen Alambritis, Leader of Merton Council, said that the Council was ‘proud of the Ahmadiyya Mosque and proud of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’ .

Lord Eric Avebury said that not enough was being done to prevent wars and conflicts. He said to simply walk away from such challenges would be ‘morally wrong’. He said that despite being a victim of persecution in a number of countries, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat was leading the way in striving for peace throughout the world.

The 3rd Annual ‘Ahmadiyya Muslim Prize for the Advancement of Peace’ was presented by Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad to the charity ‘SOS Children’s Villages UK’ in recognition of its continued efforts to alleviating the suffering of orphaned and abandoned children around the world and towards fulfilling its vision of ‘a loving home for every child’. Accepting the award on behalf of the charity was its UK President, Dame Mary Richardson DBE, who said it was essential to always put the welfare of children first.

The highlight of the evening was the keynote address given by Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad in which he spoke about the need for all people and organisations to promote peace and justice; the discord within various countries; the rise of terrorism and extremism; the devastating effects of a potential nuclear war and the efforts of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat to promote peace in the world based on the true teachings of Islam.

Speaking about the needs of the time, His Holiness said that the vast majority of the world desired peace yet instead in all parts of the world conflict and resentment was rising. His Holiness said that such disorder was being witnessed in various different guises through internal rebellions and uprisings or conversely governments attacking their own public.

At an international level, governments and nations were jealously eyeing up the resources of other countries whilst major powers were consumed by a desire to maintain their power. Furthermore terrorists were waging wars and killing innocent people to fulfil only their own vested interests. His Holiness said that all of these issues were serving to completely undermine international peace and security.

Speaking about the need for justice in terms of international relations, His Holiness said:

“Unfair lobbying techniques, based on wealth and influence, should be abandoned. Instead the representatives and ambassadors of each nation should come forward with sincerity and with a desire to support the principles of fairness and equality. We must eliminate all forms of bias and discrimination, as this is the only means to bring about peace.”

Despite the worrying state of affairs, His Holiness counselled that it was essential that those who desired peace did not become disheartened and frustrated. Instead they needed to increase their efforts to bring about real and positive change in the world.

His Holiness said:

“I would request all of you to strive for peace to the best of your abilities so that we can keep the flicker of hope alight, that a time will come when true peace and justice will be established in all parts of the world.”

His Holiness cautioned that if immediate action was not taken to establish peace then the alternative was truly frightening. One likely scenario would be the outbreak of a nuclear war in which the majority of the world would be consumed and whose consequences would last for generations to come. Citing the example of Japan, His Holiness said that the nation and people of Japan, were more fearful and horrified by the prospect of war than any other and this was because Japan was the one country that had been targeted by nuclear bombs. Though seven decades had passed the country was still bearing the scars and effects of World War II.

His Holiness said:

“If a nuclear war breaks out, we will find that people will instantly die and freeze like statues, and their skin will simply melt away. The weapons available today are so destructive that they could lead to generation after generation of children being born with severe genetic or physical defects. Drinking water, food and vegetation will be all contaminated by radiation. We can only imagine what type of diseases such contamination will lead to.”

His Holiness added:

“It is my ardent wish and hope that the leaders of all major nations come to understand this dreadful reality. And so instead of adopting aggressive policies and utilising force to achieve their aims and objectives, they strive to adopt policies that promote and secure justice.”

Speaking about the efforts of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community towards developing peace and tolerance throughout the world, His Holiness said such efforts were inspired by the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

In an effort to save the world, His Holiness said that he had recently written to various Heads of State and world leaders to warn them of the dangers of the time. Apart from writing to His Holiness Pope Benedict, President Barack Obama and Canada’s Prime Minister, His Holiness said he had written to both Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad urging them to end their mutual hostilities and avoid war.

In conclusion, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad spoke of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations taking place this year. He said that in 1897, the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, had congratulated Queen Victoria on her Diamond Jubilee and offered prayers for her and praised her Government’s commitment to freedom of religion. His Holiness said that using the same words used by the Promised Messiah, he too offered congratulations and prayers for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Offering his congratulations, His Holiness said:

“May our congratulations filled with happiness and gratitude to our compassionate Queen be conveyed. And may the honourable Queen always be kept happy and contented.”

And then the world leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat took the opportunity to pray for Queen Elizabeth II. His Holiness said:

“Oh Powerful and Noble God. Through your Grace and Blessings keep our honoured Queen forever happy in the same way that we are living happily under her benevolence and kindness. And be kind and loving to her in the same way that we are living in peace and prosperity under her generous and righteous rule.”

Following the conclusion of proceedings, His Holiness met personally with the various dignitaries, guests and also held a press conference the assembled media.

Ahmadiyya Malta Peace Symposium 2012

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta organised its annual “Peace Symposium 2012” on Friday 16th March 2012, at the Grand Hotel Excelsior, Floriana, Malta.

In this symposium Dr. Simon Busuttil MEP, Hon. Evarist Bartolo MP, Ms. Angele Deguara, Malta Green Party, Fr Edgar Busuttil, SJ, and Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad Ayaz O.B.E, delivered their talks on ‘Democracy, freedom, human rights, social justice, diversity and peace; the role of religion in politics and democracy and place of religion in modern society’. All the speeches were very interesting, informative and inspiring.

During the Symposium the Community also organised an exhibition about the holy books of different religions, including the Holy Bible and the Holy Koran, at the same venue.

Audience also put their questions to the speakers, and presented their comments. Nearly 70 people, from different sections of the society attended this Peace Symposium and Holy Books Exhibition.

In his welcoming address Laiq Ahmed Atif, President Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta, introduced to the gathering about the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat and explained that the Ahmadiyya Community organises similar meetings all around the world. The aim of these gatherings is to share knowledge, teachings, opinions and experiences on different subjects that can be helpful for the establishment of lasting peace in the world.

He concluded it with the following two quotations from the keynote addresses of His Holiness Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Head of the Worldwide Ahmadiyya Community:

“Peace in society is a two-way process and can only be established if all parties work together towards mutual reconciliation.

Today we, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, are trying to bring peace in the world. We are playing our role and trying to fulfil our responsibilities in this regard. And so I would request all of you to join us in this task…

We must set aside our own personal desires and instead be concerned for the future existence and well-being of our next generations. We must adopt selflessness rather than selfishness. When we all join together and come to respect each other’s feelings and sentiments then and only then will an atmosphere of mutual love develop. It is then that we will truly see the beautiful society that all peaceful people desire.” (Opening of Tahir Mosque in Catford, London, on 11 February 2012)

Highlighting the importance of peace he further said:

“It is surely our duty to care for and respect one another. And the best way to practically demonstrate this esteem is to consider the feelings and sentiments of each other, because that is the primary way to establish good human values. And, it is the only way to develop an environment filled with peace, justice, reconciliation and brotherhood. It should be our goal to establish such high values in every village, every town, every city, every country, every society and indeed every part of the world.” (Opening of Baitul Aman Mosque in Middlesex, UK, 4th March 2012)

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta organised first ‘Holy Books Exhibition’ on Friday 16th March 2012 at the Grand Hotel Excelsior Floriana. In this exhibition the Holy Books of Hinduism, Christianity and Islam were exhibited for the visitors; different languages of these sacred books were also part of this exhibition.

Helping deprived and destitute out of a desire for piety

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Community, outlined the key objectives with which the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, was sent by God Almighty as the Promised Messiah. He was addressing the reception of the opening of the Baitul Ghafoor Mosque, UK. 

The Promised Messiah had been sent to bring mankind closer to God Almighty, to make the world aware of the need to fulfil the rights of God’s Creation and to bring an end to all religious warfare. His Holiness said that this was not a new teaching but the same teaching that had been brought by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

His Holiness also used his address to highlight the plight of those suffering from poverty and deprivation. He said those who were in a position to help had a moral duty to do so. In this regard His Holiness said:

“When destitute people feel that their deprivation has reached its peak, then it leads to the spread of restlessness and disorder throughout society and so ultimately the peace and tranquillity of the community is shattered. Therefore helping deprived people has multiple benefits, because where on the one hand, it helps to bring man closer to God, on the other it leads to the creation of a peaceful and harmonious environment. This is because those who were once impoverished, are finally able to stand upon their own two feet and gain self-respect and dignity.”

Speaking about the efforts of the Ahmadiyya Community towards sering humanity, His Holiness said:

“We, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, have a passionate desire to serve humanity. And whilst we do not have huge resources, still the members of our Community give generously in alms, according to their abilities, out of a desire for piety and in an effort to relieve the pain and suffering of humanity. Under the supervision and management of our Jamaat, many schools, hospitals, orphanages and various other projects are being established and administered in the poorer countries of the world. Our services are rendered irrespective of religious, ethnic or social background.”

His Holiness concluded his address by speaking about the true and peaceful teachings of Islam. Addressing the ways in which the Ahmadiyya Community chose to propagate its message, based on the true teachings of Islam, His Holiness explained:

“The Founder of the Ahmadiyya Community taught us that, today rather than using the sword, we must use the pen to spread the beautiful characteristics of Islam in the form of books, literature, and through the media. And also we must utilise all other positive means of educating the world about Islam’s real and loving teachings. This is the ‘Jihad of the Pen’ which the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) brought and which he taught and this alone is a representation of true Islam. We, Ahmadi Muslims, follow this Islam, and it is this Islam that we spread and convey to others.”

The annual Peace Symposium, organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta, will take place at the Grand Hotel Excelsior, Floriana, on Friday at 6 p.m.

MEP Simon Busuttil, MP Evarist Bartolo, Angele Deguara, Fr Edgar Busuttil, SJ, and Iftikhar Ahmad Ayaz will deliver their talks on democracy, freedom, human rights, social justice, diversity and peace; the role of religion in politics and democracy and place of religion in modern society.

An exhibition about the holy books of different religions, including the Bible and the Koran, will take place between 5 and 10 p.m. at the same venue and on same date.

The public is invited to this free event, which will take place in English.

Let’s join together to Save the World from the Brink of Disaster

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat is pleased to announce that on 24 February 2012, its world leader, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad inaugurated the new Baitul Wahid Mosque in Feltham, London. The mosque was officially opened by His Holiness as he led the Friday Prayers at the Mosque with a sermon that was broadcast live across the world on MTA International.

This was followed by a formal evening reception attended by a number of dignitaries and guests, including Mary Macleod MP, Seema Malhotra MP, Councillor Amrit Mann and Lord Eric Avebury.

Mary Macleod, MP for Brentford & Isleworth congratulated the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat on the opening of the Baitul Wahid Mosque. She offered her support for the many peace initiatives undertaken by the Jamaat and praised the community’s role towards building a peaceful society. She also spoke of her concern at the continued persecution of Ahmadis in Pakistan.

Seema Malhotra, MP for Feltham & Heston, said that the Ahmadiyya community was constantly striving to bring people of all faiths and beliefs together. She said the values of the community made it an ‘example’ for others to follow and said she was sure the new Mosque would educate and bind the local community together.

The Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Amrit Mann, called the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Hounslow ‘a model community’ . He praised the community’s motto of ‘Love for All, Hatred for None’ and its commitment to humanitarian efforts. Mr Jagdish Sharma, MBE, Leader of Hounslow Borough Council, said Ahmadi Muslims had the distinction of being ‘ law abiding and tolerant’ .

The function was concluded with an address by the Fifth Khalifa of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, in which he addressed various issues based on the true teachings of Islam.

At a time when people are being killed in Afghanistan due to the alleged burning of Holy Qur’an, His Holiness made it clear that Islam did not permit arbitrary violence or revenge in any form. He said:

“The Qur’an calls for the establishment of peace. It calls on Muslims to act compassionately towards all of mankind.”

His Holiness also referred to potential concerns of local people about the construction of a Mosque. Alleviating all such apprehensions, He said:

“This Mosque has been built only for the worship of God, and as a means to develop love, affection and peace. We have no other purpose, and we never will. Any true Muslim can never desire injustices or suffering for any other person because that would run entirely contrary to what the Qur’an and the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) have taught.”

His Holiness spoke about the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat’s continued efforts to promote peace and to help serve humanity. He said:

“Whenever and wherever we have been called to help and assist in good endeavours or in service to humanity, we have always heeded the call and come running to partake in those good acts. We do so, not due to any vested interests, but only due to our desire to seek God’s Pleasure and Nearness.”

The Khalifa also spoke about his admiration for British values of justice and equality. Speaking about how planning permission for the mosque was granted upon appeal, His Holiness said:

“Ultimately we were granted permission to build this mosque and this was because, as I have said many times, that here in the UK the system of governance is just and one which affords citizens their due rights. We, who are Ahmadi Muslims, always pray that God Almighty enables just and fair governments to be established throughout the world.”

His Holiness concluded by speaking about his concerns for the current state of the world. He said:

“The world today is fraught with danger and turmoil. We sit at an extremely critical juncture and so there is an urgent need for us to all recognise our Creator and to fulfil the rights of His Creation. As we stand on the brink of disaster, we must all join together in an effort to prevent such a huge catastrophe from befalling us.

Every individual in a society, irrespective of his background, has a role to play. We need to warn our leaders and governments to the dangers of this time. Otherwise if we fail in this task, and are led to a Third World War, then the horrific destruction that will befall us is apparent to all and lies in front of us. We must care for our future generations and not be consumed only by our own personal interests.”  

During the course of the day, His Holiness also unveiled a commemorative plaque and planted a tree to further mark the inauguration of the mosque. His Holiness also held a private meeting with a number of the dignitaries.

Cast aside all differences of religion, ethnicity and nationality for Peace and Unity

“Tahir Mosque will be a place of peace” said Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the worldwide leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, at the opening of Tahir Mosque Catford, London. 

Upon arriving at the premises, His Holiness officially inaugurated the mosque by unveiling a commemorative plaque and then offering a silent prayer in thanks to God Almighty. Thereafter a tree was planted by His Holiness to further mark the occasion.

After offering prayers in the mosque, His Holiness held an audience with local Ahmadi Muslims, in which he urged them to always remember the true purposes of a mosque. He reminded them that a mosque should be a place of inner and outer purity. And he said that Ahmadi Muslims should always maintain an atmosphere of mutual love and affection and thus illustrate Islam’s peaceful teachings to the world.

After a private meeting between His Holiness and local dignitaries, the official reception marking the opening of the mosque began at 6.40pm. In his welcome speech, a local Ahmadi leader, Mr Naseem Butt spoke about how the mosque had been funded entirely by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat itself. He said a number of women had even donated their jewellery whilst young children had offered their pocket money to help fund the mosque.

The opening of the Mosque was also attended by a number of dignitaries and guests, including Heidi Alexander, MP for Lewisham East and Sir Steve Bullock, the Mayor of Lewisham.

Heidi Alexander MP, congratulated the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat on the opening of the mosque. She wished the Jamaat well and said that she looked forward to working with the community in future.

Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, said that he was familiar with the building already, as before being converted to a mosque, it had served as offices for the local Council. He congratulated the Jamaat and said that having a home for any community was very important and was a means for its growth.

Both Heidi Alexander MP and Sir Steve Bullock also thanked the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat for making donations to their local nominated charities as a further means to mark the opening of the mosque.

The function was concluded with an address by Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, in which he said that all Ahmadi Mosques were built to worship Allah and to serve humanity.

Speaking about the importance of the latter, he said:

“It is essential that a Muslim should never usurp the rights of others and instead he should cast aside all differences of religion, nationality or ethnicity and seek to become the means of support and love for all others. If someone comes to a Muslim for help, then it is the duty of the Muslim to try and fulfil that need.”

His Holiness also spoke about the fear some people held of mosques and of Islam itself. He said such fear was justified because of the acts of extremists who were destroying the peace and security of society at large. However he counselled that such acts were perpetrated by a small minority and were not at all in keeping with the real teachings of Islam. He added:

“Peace in society is a two-way process and can only be established if all parties work together towards mutual reconciliation.”

His Holiness concluded by calling for peace to be established in the world. He said:

“Today we, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, are trying to bring peace in the world. We are playing our role and trying to fulfil our responsibilities in this regard. And so I would request all of you to join us in this task…

We must set aside our own personal desires and instead be concerned for the future existence and well-being of our next generations. We must adopt selflessness rather than selfishness. When we all join together and come to respect each other’s feelings and sentiments then and only then will an atmosphere of mutual love develop. It is then that we will truly see the beautiful society that all peaceful people desire.”

Governor-General of Tuvalu calls on Head of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in London

On 15 February 2012, the world Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad was called on by the Governor-General of Tuvalu, Sir Iakoba Italeli at the Fazl Mosque in London. The Governor-General was also accompanied by his wife, Lady Koling Italeli and a member of staff.

During the meeting various matters pertaining to religion were discussed. In particular, His Holiness explained about the differences in belief between Ahmadi Muslims and non-Ahmadi Muslims.

Speaking about services rendered to Islam by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, His Holiness said that the community had translated the Holy Qur’an into around 70 languages and that this task was continually progressing.

His Holiness also spoke of his visit to the Fijian Islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu in 2006. His Holiness mentioned how the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat had established two schools in Fiji.

His Holiness also commented upon the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat’s commitment to serving humanity worldwide and in particular its humanitarian efforts in Africa.

The Governor-General briefed His Holiness about the political affairs of Tuvalu and also informed that he was in London after being called by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth for an Investiture Ceremony at Buckingham Palace to be held the following day.

Importance of establishing peace and reconciliation in the world

The three-day, 88 th Annual Convention (Jalsa Salana) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Bangladesh concluded on 5 th February 2012 in Dhaka with a powerful and faith inspiring address by the World Head of the community, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, who addressed the event from the Baitul Futuh Mosque in London via satellite. The Jalsa attracted over 6,300 people from various countries who attended the event in Dhaka, whilst over 1,500 gathered in London for the concluding session.

The Khalifa used much of his address to speak about the true character of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He said it was the Prophet of Islam who took it upon himself to support all those who were vulnerable, be they orphans or those afflicted with poverty. Further, he said that it was the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who first gave women their due rights and afforded them the dignity and honour they deserved.

Speaking about the Holy Prophet’s desire for peace and respect for all religions, His Holiness said:

“The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) counselled his own companions to forsake their own due rights for the sake of establishing peace and reconciliation in the world. And it was he who called for the protection of synagogues, churches and all places of worship in the same way that he called for the protection of mosques.”

His Holiness said that non-Ahmadi Muslims regularly alleged that Ahmadis had dishonoured the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by accepting Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as a Prophet of Allah and as the Promised Messiah. But the truth was that the Promised Messiah was the greatest servant of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and had spent his entire life advocating total obedience to him and thus his followers were the ultimate defenders of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). His Holiness said:

“For the sake of protecting the reputation and dignity of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) we, Ahmadi Muslims, are ready to make every required sacrifice and indeed we are making every such sacrifice for this purpose.”

His Holiness spoke also of the so-called ‘religious scholars’ who had developed huge followings in Muslim countries. He said that instead of bringing people closer to God, such people were poisoning society with their extremist ideology and taking people away from Islam’s true teachings.


Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said that division and discord had penetrated many Muslim countries to such an extent that segments of society were actually publicly stating that it seemed as though they were being punished by God Almighty. He said extremism was also penetrating parts of Bangladeshi society and that such a path could only lead to destruction.

His Holiness said that the extreme clerics failed to take any responsibility for their actions and continually blamed various terrorist groups for the indiscriminate violence being witnessed today in much of the world. But he said the truth was that such clerics worked hand in hand with terrorists and were continually plotting to harm Ahmadi Muslims and other innocent groups.

Concluding his address with a message to Ahmadis and non-Ahmadis alike, His Holiness said:

“The opponents of our community are trying their utmost to destroy our Jamaat, but they will never be successful. Let it be clear that their efforts can never succeed and indeed their evil plans will soon die a death. The spread of Ahmadiyyat is destined because it is God’s Will.”

Press Release: Muslims Respond to Mosque Attack in Virginia

Attack will not deter Ahmadi Muslims from completing the Mubarak Mosque

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat condemns the vandalism committed on their new Mubarak Mosque in Chantilly, Virginia, on 29th January 2012.  In this senseless act, vandals destroyed nearly every window on the first floor of the new construction, causing an estimated $60,000 worth of damage.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat hopes that this remains an isolated incident. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat is the oldest Muslim organisation in the United States and has spent decades presenting the true and peaceful message of Islam to the American public. It has thousands of members spread across the United States who are propagating a message of peace, tolerance and loyalty.

The President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in the USA, Dr Ahsan Zafar said

“As Muslims who believe in the Promised Messiah, Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, we are a tolerant and patient people and we will continue with our work while the police will do their job. This Mosque will be a source of education, peace, love and understanding. And we will not let isolated cases of intolerance get in the way.”

The international Press Secretary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Abid Khan, in London, said:

“The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat is based in 200 countries and wherever Ahmadi Muslims build mosques they are signs of peace, unity and inclusion. It is a real shame that our new mosque in Virginia has been attacked in this way. We believe that all places of worship, regardless of religion, should be respected.”

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat is grateful for the outpouring of support for the Mosque from the vast majority of the surrounding community.  Such expressions of support will further the common goal of fostering a tolerant and peaceful society.

Parents should lead by examples │Laiq Ahmed Atif

“The mother’s lap is the first school for every child”. And in fact, it is the woman as mother who is the moulder of the moral values of her child. It is considered that the child’s first knowledge of moral values and behaviour patterns is learnt from his mother, and as a child is fully dependant on mother and sees the way she acts, thus the love, care, education and responsibilities she teaches her child and the values modes that are incorporated within the family form the personality and character of the child.

However, the role of a father in upbringing of a child is not less important than mother. And for the better future of a child the role of both parents is highly essential and important and both the parents should set positive and valuable examples for their children.

Every parent wants their children to be successful people, to be outstanding people in society, to have a good job and a better life. And it is also true that almost all children, regardless of their age, pick parents as their number one role model. So see, how important is it for the parents to lead by examples and become a real role model for their children.

Research has found that the best adjusted children, particularly in terms of social competence, have parents with an authoritative, moderate parenting style. These parents are able to balance clearly stated, high demands with emotional responsiveness and respect for their child’s autonomy. And children with disturbed and troubled family life are more likely to involve in crimes and drugs and they do not have the capabilities to compete and contribute positively in society.

This reminds me of a joke which clearly shows that how parents set examples to their children and how children learn and form themselves while seeing their parents. It is not only a joke but also a very sad and painful reality which may make some people laugh yet move some others to tears. However, the aim is to show that parent’s attitude has a great influence on their children.

Once a child observed with much pain and unease the ill-treatment of his grandfather at the hands of his father and that left a great impact on him. The grandfather was gradually transferred from a well-provided and comfortable main bedroom to a smaller and less convenient accommodation until it was finally decided to remove the grandfather to the servant’s quarters. During an exceptionally severe winter, the grandfather complained of his room being too chilly and his quilt being too thin to make him feel warm and comfortable. The father started looking for an extra blanket from a stock of old, useless rags and finally found him an old and mended blanket.

This left a great impact on child’s memory and he also started storing old things in a bag. One day his father saw him and asked the reason why he is storing these old cloths and mended blankets etc in a bag?

The child replied that a few days ago you gave similar old and mended blanket to your old and retired father when he was in need. So, I thought that I should also store some old items so can also provide you from these old cloths etc when you will be in need at your old and retired age.

This innocent expression of a child shows clearly that parents set examples for their children. So, for a great generation, parents must set positive and the best possible examples.

The English sayings that time and tide wait for no man and that time flies accurately and perfectly apply as we look back at 2011. It was almost yesterday that celebrations were held all around the world to welcome 2011. People were praying for peace, wishing each other the very best and a better new year.

Of course, we will not be incorrect if we describe 2011 as a remarkable year, full of news, good and bad, and leaving unforgettable marks on the history of mankind. A lot has been written on this and I would not like to repeat what has already been said, so I will attempt to sum up this year very briefly.

It has been a year of struggle for the sake of freedom, human rights and democracy. On one side, we have seen people in their hundreds of thousands protesting and thousands among them gave their lives for their rights, dignity and freedom.

On the other hand, some rulers were seen fighting to prolong their era of denial of human rights, of disrespect to the sentiments and voices of their own people and of iron fist rule.

There were also natural disasters. A powerful earthquake in Japan led many towns and villages to disappear from the surface of the earth. New Zealand and Turkey were also rocked by earthquakes.

Pakistan recorded heavy rains and the worst floods in history affecting more than eight million people. Thailand too experienced floods

The economic crisis led to protests in a number of countries, including Greece and Italy.

There were terrorist attacks in Nigeria, Iraq and elsewhere. The US military killed the world’s most wanted man, Osama Bin Laden.

In Norway, a lonely gunman wrought death and destruction.

Arab countries were the theatre of popular revolutions.

But there was good news too, like, the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, surely, one of the most beautiful and joyful moments of the year.

The history of man is filled with ups and downs, happiness and sadness, enmity and friendship, hatred and love. There is no doubt that both good desires and bad temptations always remained with humans. However, true love and affection has always proved itself the best and most powerful instrument and weapon in the history of human beings. Affection and kinship can change a bitter enemy into a warm and loyal friend, a friendship and relationship that sees no boundaries and would be ready to take all the necessary measures to help and support others.

While writing this piece, the story of two prisoners in India came to mind. Their ideologies and actions were extremely different but the kind and loving attitude of the young man towards the other, who was older, changed the latter completely.

I would like to quote his words when he was won by the young man. He expressed himself with such beautiful and remarkable words that are really so precious. He said: “I understood that love between two human beings is more powerful than the hatred between two communities.”

I believe that to be so true. We witnessed the great spirit of love and solidarity between human beings on Boxing Day during L-Istrina.

Despite the prevailing worrying political and economic situations and the negativity dominating the world news, Malta has once again proved that, whatever the circumstances, whatever the crisis, “the love between two human beings is more powerful than the hatred between two communities”. In just one day, the Maltese donated €2.6 million to charity, demonstrating their unique values of generosity and solidarity. That works out to more than €6 per person and more than €20 per family, which is really remarkable and wonderful.

Malta’s generosity and solidarity is not only recognised at national level but also on the international plane. A worldwide study ranks Malta first among 153 countries when it comes to giving money to charity, with 83 per cent of the population saying they had donated cash the previous month.

This is no surprise. However, Malta should be proud of it. And I believe that as long as such goodwill and human values remain alive, Malta will always flourish and no one can stop its success and progress.

Long live Malta, long live humanity.

I hope and pray that 2012 will be a year of love and brotherhood so that the love between human beings prevails over any kind of enmity and aggression and we will be able to hear the voices of love for all in every corner of this planet. The world at large can thus become a haven of peace. For, indeed, love and true sympathy are the very antidotes of terrorism and serve as an effective weapon and an instrument for the establishment of peace.

Jesus and Mary are loved by Muslims too│Laiq Ahmed Atif

Each year, with the start of December, many discussions, publications, activities are directly focused on the topic of ‘Christmas’; in brief, Christmas becomes the talk of the town. Streets become brighter with different lights and decorations; homes, shops and offices are also very well decorated, in order to welcome Christmas.

The Holy Quran gives great honor and respect to Jesus and Mary (peace be on them), and both are mentioned repeatedly in the Holy Quran. A chapter of the Holy Quran is named after mother Mary and the name of Jesus is actually mentioned more often in the Holy Quran than of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, may peace be on him.  Allah Almighty says:

When the angels said, ‘O Mary, Allah gives thee glad tidings of a word from Him; his name shall be the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, honored in this world and in the next, and of those who are granted nearness to God. (3:46) 

And We gave Jesus, son of Mary, clear proofs and strengthened him with the Spirit of holiness. (2:254) 

The Holy Quran also extended great honor and respect to Mary, to such a high extent that God has named an entire chapter of the Holy Quran by her name, ‘Sura Maryam’, and Maryam is an Arabic name for Mary. The Holy Quran speaks of her righteousness and states:

And remember when the angels said, ‘O Mary, Allah has chosen thee and purified thee and chosen thee above the women of all peoples. (3:43) 

The Holy Quran also mentioned about her piety and God cleared her from allegations which were raised against her, by the people of the time. It states that: “Then she brought him (Jesus) to her people, carrying him. They said, ‘O Mary, thou hast brought forth a strange thing. (19:28) 

Furthermore:

And the example of Mary, the daughter of ‘Imran, who guarded her private parts — so We breathed into him of Our Spirit — and she fulfilled in her person the words of her Lord and His Books and was one of the obedient.” (66:13)

And We made the son of Mary and his mother a Sign, and gave them refuge on an elevated land of green valleys and springs of running water. (23:51) 

These verses, just to mention a few, are clear evident to the reality that Islam pays a great honor, respect and dignity to beloved Jesus and Mary (peace be on them). And having affection and respect for such great and noble personalities and to follow their footsteps is part and parcel of Islamic faith. Christmas is a time to remember the work and accomplishment of Jesus; it is a reminder for following their footsteps.

The Prophets and Islam:

Two of the six fundamental articles of Muslim faith are, to believe in all the Prophets of God – the Divine Teachers and to believe in all Divine Books and Scriptures. Therefore, Muslims believe that all prophets were sent by God and that the scriptures in their original form were Divine revelations. It also clearly informs us that in every region of the world and in every age, God did raise messengers and prophets. It sates:

And for every people there is a Messenger. (10:48)

There is no people to whom a Warner has not been sent. (35:25)

There is no denying the fact that the Holy Quran makes it incumbent on every Muslim to believe in all the prophets, but as Hadhrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad beautifully says:

When he speaks of Jesus Christ or Moses or Krishna or Buddha with veneration and love, he does so because he has no other option. It is a part of the fundamental article of his faith to extend not just a human courtesy, but to genuinely believe in their truth and honor. In the light of this, this article of faith appears to hold an importance of global scale. It establishes inter- religious peace and harmony and genuinely creates an atmosphere of mutual trust and love. Like the Unity of God it holds the intrinsic quality of being irreplaceable — there is no alternative. (An Elementary Study of Islam, P: 23)

The Holy Quran states:

“This Messenger of Ours believes in that which has been revealed to him from his Lord, and so do the believers: all of them believe in Allah, and in His angels, and in His Books, and in His Messengers, saying, ‘We make no distinction between any of His Messengers.” (2:286) 

“Say ye: ‘We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us, and what was revealed to Abraham and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob and his children, and what was given to Moses and Jesus, and what was given to all other Prophets from their Lord. We make no difference between any of them; and to Him we submit ourselves.” (2:137) 

The Founder of the Ahmadiyya Community, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani, may peace be on him, has summarized the Islamic belief in all the prophets, he writes:

One of the principles which forms the basis of my belief refers to the established religions of the world. These religions have met with wide acceptance in various regions of the earth. They have acquired a measure of age, and have reached a stage of maturity. God has informed me that none of these religions were false at their source and none of the prophets impostors. (Tohfa Qaisariya, Roohani Khazain Vol. 12 p.256) 

Again he says:

This is a beautiful principle, which promotes peace and harmony, and which lays the foundation for reconciliation, and which helps the moral condition of man. All prophets that have appeared in the world, regardless of whether they dwelt in India or Persia or China, or in some other country, we believe in the truth of them, one and all.(Tohfa Qaisariya, Roohani Khazain Vol. 12 p.259) 

We hold great respect and affection for Jesus and Marry in our hearts. We wish “Marry Christmas” to all our Christen brothers and sisters. Also a blessed and prosperous New Year; peace and blessings of Allah be upon the entire humanity.

Unity of God and Islam │Laiq Ahmed Atif

Some time ago, during a discussion with friend, we came to know of a woman from Australia, who’s sole mission was to unite all mankind at one point. I asked him that does she believe in a single entity, the central focus of the universe, – the Almighty God. If not, then how can she bring together and unite the entire humanity at one single point. Because unity requires a unit, an absolute single central point, extreme oneness, where mankind can be united, and that central unit is the Almighty God. As whole human body depends on its central unit – the heart, the entire mankind depends on the Unity and Oneness of God.

Can a state run when there is more than one leader? Can a human body function with more than one heart? Can a country have more than one capital city? Absolutely not, and any such system cannot be successful and will be a massive disaster. Similarly, there cannot be more than one central point that can unite people besides God Almighty. That is a philosophy and extreme reality that Islam presents when it speaks about the existence, absolute Unity and Oneness of God. The Holy Quran says:

If there had been in them (the heavens and the earth) other gods besides Allah, then surely both would have gone to ruin. Glorified then be Allah, the Lord of the Throne, above what they attribute. (21:23) 

Unity means that if God is Unique and One, then in His entire universe such unity will be visible. There will not be any need or presence of anything else, and consequently there willbe no clases., So as result, a complete system is present. And in light of this, extreme unity is visble in every respect of our universe.  To believe in more than one Creator, Master or God is a weakness in itself because it shows that the Creator/Master/God couldn’t create the universe on its own and needed the help on another creator.  Can the Creator/Master/God, who needed help to create the universe, be the Creator/Master/God of the well organised universe? Can a less powerful God help the weak and vulnerable? No, not at all! A weak and less powerful cannot be the Almighty and Supreme Master of the entire universe. Islam presents the absolute Unity and Oneness of God, the one Most Powerful, All Knowing, Almighty and unique in His attributes.  The Holy Quran states:

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say, ‘He is Allah, the One; ‘Allah, the Independent and Besought of all. ‘He begets not, nor is He begotten; ‘And there is none like unto Him. (The Holy Quran Chapter 112) 

The Holy Quran speaks about unique attributes of the oneness of God, as, ‘“Allah has the power to do all that He wills” (2:21); “Allah is of exceeding bounty” (2:106); “Allah sees all that you do.” (2:111), ‘All Knowing’, ‘Ever Merciful’, ‘Most Powerful’, ‘All Hearing’, etc. it states:

Allah — there is no God but He, the Living, the Self-Subsisting and All-Sustaining. Slumber seizes Him not, nor sleep. To Him belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. Who is he that will intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them; and they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He pleases. His knowledge extends over the heavens and the earth; and the care of them burdens Him not; and He is the High, the Great. (2:256) 

Dost thou not know that the kingdom of the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah alone? And there is no protector or helper for you beside Allah. (2:108) 

Islam presents such a great and merciful God, that there is none like Him. He is not as some believe that he used to listen and speak to human beings and now He has stopped, nor it presents the God who cannot afford to forgive the sins of His people. He is All Loving; His love for mankind is everlasting and un-ending. Not only did He speak and guide mankind in the past, but He will always speak and guide mankind in the present and future. Can a loving and caring shepherd ever leave his flock of sheep to go astray or die out of hunger or thirst? Then how can the All-Loving and Most Merciful God can stop speaking and guiding mankind and to let them go astray and to die without spiritual and divine guidance?

The Messiah, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani beautifully summarizes the Unity and Oneness of God, and His everlasting attributes, he writes:

The Qur’an teaches that by virtue of His excellences God is One, without associate.He suffers from no defect. He comprehends all good qualities and manifests all holy powers. He is the Originator of all creation and is the fountainhead of all grace. He is the Master of all recompense and everything returns to Him. He is near and yet far, and He is far and yet near. He is above all, but it cannot be said that there is someone below Him. He is more hidden than everything else is but it cannot be said that there is something more manifest than Him. He is Self-Existing in His Being and everything is alive through Him. He is Self-Sustaining and everything is sustained by Him. He supports everything and there is nothing that supports Him. There is nothing that has come into being on its own, or can live without Him on its own. He comprehends everything, but it cannot be said what is the nature of that comprehension. He is the Light of everything in heaven and earth and every light has shone forth from His hand and is a reflection of His Being. He is the Providence of the universe. There is no soul that is not sustained by Him and exists by itself. No soul has any power which it has not obtained from Him and which exists by itself.   [Lecture Lahore, Ruhani Khaza’in, Vol. 20, pp. 152-153] 

The superiority of Islam lies in this absolute Unity and Oneness of God, with all His attributes; a God who is most Powerful, Mighty and Omnipotent, the Supreme Master and Creator of all other beings.   The Messiah, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani writes about the beauty of God and appeals to mankind to come, recognise and love the Merciful and Gracious God. He says:

Our paradise lies in our God. Our highest delight is in our God for we have seen Him and have found every beauty in Him. This wealth is worth procuring though one might have to lay down one’s life to procure it. This ruby is worth purchasing though one may have to lose oneself to acquire it. O ye, who are bereft! run to this fountain and it will satisfy you. It is the fountain of life that will save you. What shall I do, and how shall I impress the hearts with this good news, and by beating what drum shall I make the announcement that this is our God, so that people might hear? What remedy shall I apply to the ears of the people so that they should listen? [Kashti Nuh, Ruhani Khaza’in, Vol. 19, pp. 21-22]

Ahmadiyya Muslim Leader calls for Jihad against Extremism and Oppression

“Lack of justice leading to increased terrorism and sectarianism” – Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad

The Annual Convention (Jalsa Salana) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in India concluded on 28th December in Qadian with a powerful and faith inspiring address by the World Head of the community, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, who addressed the event from the Baitul Futuh Mosque in London via satellite. The Jalsa attracted over 17,000 people from around the world in Qadian, whilst over 4,000 gathered in London for the concluding session.

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad began his address by reminding the audience that the conventions held by the Ahmadiyya community were distinguished from others, because they were exclusively designed to enhance the religious and spiritual development of those who took part.

He said that this year thousands of Ahmadi Muslims from Pakistan had travelled for the event in an effort to lessen the sense of deprivation they felt due to the fact that Ahmadi Muslims were not permitted to host such conventions in Pakistan due to the anti-Ahmadiyya laws that continued to exist.

His Holiness spoke repeatedly about the state of the world, which he said stood on the brink of disaster and destruction due to the lack of justice and equality within society. He said that at such a crucial time, it was the task of Ahmadi Muslims throughout the world to guide mankind towards salvation. He said:

“Today it is the responsibility of every Ahmadi Muslim to protect the world from destruction. This is because we have pledged allegiance to the Promised Messiah, Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian (peace be upon him) and by doing so we have sworn that we will always strive for the betterment of all humanity.”

His Holiness continued by saying that the Muslim world was today ravaged by sectarianism and internal discord. Only the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat could claim to be united and this unity was derived through its system of Khilafat.

His Holiness reminded the audience that the well-being of the future was being put at risk by the jealousies of today. The unjust policies and practices of world powers were fuelling extremism and terrorism. In this regard His Holiness said:

“True peace and true justice cannot be found anywhere in the world today. Instead worldly desires have increased beyond all limits. The wealth of others is looked at with envy and jealousy by people and by governments. In today’s world governments claim that they are fighting wars for the sake of peace and to save mankind from cruelty. Such claims are totally wrong and deceitful.  The aims of such governments are simply to serve their own vested interests and to capture the wealth of other nations. Thus in the name of justice the blood of mankind is being spilled and in reaction to such injustice more and more terrorist groups are emerging.”

The Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat also used his address to counsel against all forms of extremism. He said that any form of extremism had to be outlawed, otherwise the consequences would be grave.

Referring to India specifically, he said that even though the country claimed to be secular, some Muslim extremists had penetrated the country and were already poisoning the society with their acts. He said that the Ahmadi Muslims of India were already being targeted and that the extremists were trying to influence the government to stop the peaceful and humanitarian activities of the Ahmadiyya community in India.

In response to such opposition, His Holiness said:

“Ahmadi Muslims can never, and will never, stop worshipping the One God and following the practice of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). However I say to those who believe in justice and equality, that if you yield to the extremists for the sake of apparent political benefit then your country will no doubt become immersed in strife. If you allow such groups to spread then it will lead to nothing but a moral decline.”

His Holiness concluded by saying that there remained hope and this hope was based upon the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) which were of peace, brotherhood and mutual love. To achieve these aims, throughout his life the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) made sacrifice after sacrifice and in this era it is the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat who continue to follow in his footsteps. His Holiness said that all Ahmadi Muslims must therefore understand their responsibilities.

His Holiness said:

“Is it enough for us to simply call ourselves Ahmadi Muslims? Will this be enough to develop peace in the world? No! To achieve peace we must first understand the pain that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) felt for all of mankind. Our every act and our every effort should be towards ending all forms of cruelty. By developing true justice we must do Jihad against cruelty itself. Our Jihad will not be conducted by any weapons or might but simply through our prayers for all of humanity. This is the only way that peace and love can develop in society.”

Ahmadiyya Malta condemns attacks on churches in Nigeria

A string of bombs struck churches in five Nigerian cities on Sunday, leaving dozens dead and wounded on Christmas day – a time of celebration and religious activities; a very special day for all the Christians around the world. 

The blasts mark the second holiday season that bombs have hit Christian houses of worship in the West African nation. These acts of violence and hatred against innocent citizens are provocative and inhuman. 

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Malta strongly rejects, and unreservedly and categorically condemns such violent attacks on Churches – the places of worship, in Nigeria. 

The community said that these are no doubt, inhuman, heinous and cruel attacks, which should be condemned at every level. The Ahmadiyya Community condemns the attack in strongest terms, and demands the authorities to bring the culprits in front of justice as soon as possible”.

“We believe that, in this age, when certain powers, organisations and ideologies are engaged in destroying peace and when ill-feelings against each other are being sparked unnecessarily and walls of hatred are being erected in every part of the world and at every level possible, the objective of caring for the sentiments of each other, respecting other faiths, showing mutual tolerance and harmony and interreligious cooperation is all the more important. “

The Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Laiq Ahmed Atif calls all the people to exhibit their kindness to one another, to show love and affection and for renewing ties of brotherhood and kinship so that peace in the best possible manner can be established in our societies. He also says:

“There is no religion in the world – be it Islam, or Christianity, or Hinduism or for that matter any other faith – that advocates the destruction of peace. Each person likes peace and hates disorder. Every heart is inclined towards good deeds and every good-natured person wants the peace should be established in the world. Everyone is restless in attaining this objective of peace.”

The community expressed their deepest condolences to the victims’ families in this difficult time and pray for the health of those who were injured in this attack.

In this interview the campaign of Peace Leaflets was discussed and Atif, the Ahmadiyya President Malta explained about this campaign and the message of Loyalty, Freedom, Respect, Equality and PEACE.

Laiq Ahmed Atif, President Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Malta was interviewed by Mr. Ivan Bartolo in his morning show “Stenbaħ” on Favorite Channel on 20.12.2011. In this interview the campaign of Peace Leaflets was discussed and Atif explained this campaign and the message of Loyalty, Freedom, Respect, Equality and Peace.

Presenter: This week is very important for us as Christians. If we see the Jesus gave the message of peace and love, and this is also your message. So see how much we have in common. Allah is one.

Laiq Ahmed Atif: Yes that’s true. And we also believe in Jesus and we respect him by the depth of our hearts. We believe that whoever comes from God, he gives the same teaching of peace, love and respect. When we study the history of different prophets we find the same teachings, as human beings we are all the same, irrespective of different colors, creeds or nationalities, when we human beings are the same, and then the message should also be the same. Because the message comes from the same and One God, that’s why the basic message is always the same.

The Jesus said, ‘Blessed are the peace makers,’ and we also believe in this message.

We not only believe but we practice it, we give this message to others too, as our motto is ‘Love for all – Hatred for none,’ it is really a wonderful and precious, that everyone, people of different faiths, colors and creeds can come together and work for the betterment of our country and for the whole world.

Many times I hear that people say that religion divides human beings. I say no. In reality religion unites human beings. If there is no religion how we can get the message of peace and love and respect. Religion gives this message of peace with full strength. Religion gives the message that we love each other and respect each other.

We believe in this message of loyalty, respect, freedom, equality and peace. This message has a great value. When we speak about loyalty; people say that are Muslims loyal to the countries they live? Yes, off course, we are loyal to the countries we live in. It is an integral part of our faith that we love the country we live in. After loyalty it is freedom. Freedom is a basic right of every human being, as God has created us free so we must give this freedom to every human person. And respect, is a basic value, even if there is no religion, still respect is considered as a basic value. And equality is also very important, and many problems take place because of lack of equality.

And when we will be practicing these values, in the end we can benefit from lasting peace. And as we are living in Malta our message is for everyone in Malta. We love this country from the depth of our hearts. We are part of this country.

Question: Is Ahmadiyya Part of Islam?

Answer: Yes, Ahmadiyya is a part of Islam. There is a difference that the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be on him, prophesized that in the Latter Days there will come a Promised Messiah and Mahdi, who will reform Islamic teachings. We believe that person has come and we believe in him and our community is reformed by him and other Muslims are waiting for that Messiah to come. When one studies more about our Community he will understand that we are very well reformed. We believe that every Muslim should respect the laws of the country. And I assure that we will always remain loyal to this country and we will never raise our voices against this country.

Question: How big Community you have in Malta?

Answer: In Malta we have a small Community, but we work very hard, day and night, because when you have an aim and mission you work hard to reach there.

Question: Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is against terrorism; and you speak strongly against it.
Answer: There are many people who use religion for terrorism and suicide attacks to kill innocent human beings, to divide humanity. But we practice and use religion to bring and unite human beings on a single point and to establish human rights, human dignity, to establish peace and we strongly condemn terrorism. We believe that there is no place in Islam for terrorism, and not only Islam but no religion, whatever its name can teach terrorism. In the Holy Quran God says: “If you kill a single human being it is as you have killed all humanity”. And when in an incident they kill e.g. 100 people, it is not only the death of 100 people but, the death of humanity for 100 times. And it is really a grave sin. And God permitted no one to kill human beings.

Fid-dinja tal-lum il-bniedem kiseb suċċess kbir f’kull qasam. Il-progress fit-teknoloġija hu enormi u l-ħajja tal-bniedem inbidlet kompletament. Dawn l-inven-zjonijiet huma kollha tajbin u għamlu l-bniedem iktar progressiv, soċjevoli u ċivilizzat.

Imma, sfortunatament, mill-banda l-oħra niltaqgħu ma’ elementi negattivi fil-ħajja tal-lum, fid-dinja moderna. Naraw żieda sostanzjali fix-xorb, fit-tipjip u fl-użu tad-drogi. Issib nies ta’ kull età u minn klassijiet soċjali differenti li huma dipendenti fuq xi vizzju. Anki ż-żgħażagħ li huma l-futur tas-soċjetà, huma wkoll involuti fis-sigaretti, fix-xorb kif ukoll fid-drogi.

L-użu ħażin tad-drogi hu problema kbira ħafna li d-dinja qiegħda tiffaċċja llum. Issib żgħażagħ li jitilfu ħajjithom minħabba d-drogi, it-tipjip u x-xorb. Numru ta’ familji jiġġarrfu u l-kriminalità qiegħda tiżdied.

Hemm ħafna nies li jaħsbu li x-xorb u t-tipjip m’għandhomx x’jaqsmu mad-drogi. Iżda jekk nanalizzaw is-sitwazzjoni mill-qrib u nkunu realistiċi, nistgħu ngħidu li l-problemi l-kbar tad-drogi jibdew mit-tipjip u mix-xorb. In-nies li huma nvoluti f’xi sitwazzjoni ħażina minħabba d-drogi, bdew mill-affarijiet żgħar u fl-aħħar spiċċaw f’qagħda ferm agħar.

Kull sena iktar minn sitt triljun sigarett jinbiegħu. U iktar minn sitt miljun ruħ imutu minħabba t-tipjip mad-war id-dinja; kull 6.5 sekondi jmut wieħed li jpejjep. Huwa stmat li kważi 1.3 biljun ruħ ipejpu madwar id-dinja. Possibbilment in-numru se jiżdied sa 6.5 miljun ruħ fl-2015 u 8.3 miljun fl-2030. 

Fl-Amerika biss hemm 46 miljun ruħ li jpejpu; u kważi 443,000 Amerikani jmutu minħabba t-tipjip kull sena. U fiċ-Ċina kważi 1.2 miljun persuna jmutu minħabba t-tipjip kull sena, jiġifieri 2,000 persuna kuljum. Mhux it-tipjip biss jagħmel ħsara lis-saħħa l-bniedem imma d-duħħan huwa wkoll perikoluż ħafna għal saħħitna. 

L-użu ħażin tal-alkoħol huwa fattur ta’ riksju kbir għall-mewt prematura u d-diżabilità fid-dinja. Skont ‘l-Organizzazzjoni Dinjija tas-Saħħa’ kważi 1.8 miljun persuna jmutu minħabba l-alkoħol madwar id-dinja. U madwar 2.5 miljun ruħ imutu mid-drogi direttament jew indirettament, kull sena madwar id-dinja.

Il-gvernijiet qegħdin jonfqu flus kbar biex jindrizzaw din il-problema u jiġġieldu l-gwerra kontra d-drogi u l-użu ħażin tagħhom. Imma sfor-tunatament huma ma jidhrux li qegħdin jirbħu din il-gwerra u n-numru ta’ nies li jabbużaw mid-drogi qed jiżdied kuljum. 

Ix-xorb, it-tipjip u d-drogi jagħmlu ħsara kbira fis-soċjetà, lis-saħħa, u lill-ekonomija tal-pajjiż. Nafu li l-abbuż huwa ħażin, imma l-mistoqsija hi: Għaliex in-nies qegħdin jersqu iktar lejn dawn il-vizzji aktar minn qatt qabel?

Hemm rapport dwar l-Ingilterra li juri li l-ġenituri jib-żgħu ħafna iktar li wliedhom jaqbdu l-vizzju tad-drogi milli jekk ikollhom xi arma. Erbgħa minn kull għaxar ġenituri qalu li l-użu tad-drogi huwa l-ikbar biża’ tagħhom għal uliedhom. 

L-istudji dwar id-drogi juru li n-nies jersqu lejhom minħabba dawk ir-raġunijiet: tiċħid u nuqqas ta’ xogħol, abbużi emozzjonali u fiżiċi, trawma, uġigħ, tensjoni, pressjoni, dwejjaq, sikkatura, kur-żità, esperimentazzjoni b’xi ħaġa ġdida, vizzju, drogi rħas u minħabba xi disponibbilità faċli għalihom. 

Dawn ir-raġunijiet juru li hemm vojt kbir fil-ħajja ta’ dawk li jaqgħu fil-vizzju. U n-nies jaħsbu li dan il-vizzju tat-tipjip, tax-xorb u tad-drogi se jagħtihom il-mistrieħ u s-serħan tal-moħħ. 

Però, fir-realtà huma jżidu l-problemi tagħhom u ma jnaqqsu xejn mill-problemi u mill-mard tagħhom; l-uġigħ tagħhom jibqa’ hemm, anki jiżdied.

Nemmen, li jekk l-użu eċċessiv ta’ xi ħaġa huwa ħażin, importanti li jkollna sens ta’ bilanċ u ma nħallux dawn id-drogi jeqirdu s-soċjetajiet tagħna. U kif ngħidu bl-Ingliż ‘nip the evil in the bud’; ejjew nagħmlu l-gwerra kontra tagħhom u ngħinu lil kull min għandu problema bl-alkoħol, bid-droga jew bit-tipjip biex itejjeb il-kwalità tal-ħajja kif inhu xieraq illum stess.

Media’s crucial role towards cultural integration and diversity

SOS Malta launches project to mainstream the integration and diversity of third-country nationals through the media, first highlighting intercultural gastronomy.

Director of SOS Malta Claudia Taylor-East said that the main aims of the Media InterAct project being organisation in collaboration with the Public Broadcasting Services was to see how media can engage with third-country nationals on a culinary front.

“PBS will be producing and showing 13 programmes on television to bring food and cultures into Maltese homes. It has been an interesting process to date. We have also collaborated with Malta Journalism Awards to award journalists with writing on the same topic,” Taylor-East said…

President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Malta Laiq Ahmed Atif is a Pakistani national participating in the project and said that migration was a phenomenon for all creatures and compared humans to birds in their migratory process.

“Just like birds, humans sometimes leave their home countries to find better and safer environments. It can be for various reasons ranging from employment to saving their lives from persecution,” Atif said.

Atif believed that integration was essential for the betterment of countries but it was a two-way process which needed to be respected by both the migrants as well as the host-country.

“Both parties need to respect the dignity of each other and the fundamental human rights. We should accept and respect all races. Migrants must respect and be thankful for the culture, customs and laws of their host-country as a right which when honoured will create harmony,” Atif said.

The Pakistani said that while he was not saying that migration should happen, but that when it does happen, both the host-country and the migrants should look for the positive contributions which can be made to benefit the country.

Atif added that the media can play a crucial role where integration is involved because “everyone has something good to offer” and these can be highlighted by the media.

“We can all learn from each other and share our customs. Like, in Pakistan, we have one custom where men on a bus will always offer and give up their seats to women if there are no seats available,” Atif said.

A Great Show of Unity and Solidarity

Unity and solidarity are the strength of a nation. And for the promotion and establishment of such high qualities a noble and great leadership is required. A leadership that can motivate its people about national matters, a leadership that can deliver.

On December 4, the streets of Malta witnessed a great sense of unity and solidarity behind the strong leadership of President George Abela. He once again proved that he is really a man of commitment and deliverance. For the third consecutive year he united the whole of Malta for a noble cause to show solidarity with needy brothers and sisters.

A record-breaking 11,000 people gathered on the streets to make this event a success. The enthusiasm, encouragement, readiness and high aims were seen clearly on every face. People of all ages, classes and backgrounds including families, couples, individuals, colleagues, friends and communities took part in the noble cause.

Everyone was ready and willing to extend his favours to others. Our benevolence is extended in such a manner that we consider it to be our duty or obligation and not a favour to others.

May God bless Dr Abela with a long, healthy and peaceful life. He said a few days ago that the spirit and joy of people filled him with great happiness and he was glad to see the entire nation united.

We pray, in his words, “J’Alla nibqgħu dejjem hekk!” Amen.
