Ahmadiyya Malta condemns Paris attacks

Source/Credit: GozoNews.com, Saturday, November 14, 2015

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Malta has said in a statement on Saturday that it categorically condemns the terrorist attacks in Paris, France.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community offered its deepest condolences to the people of France and the French Government. “The innocent victims of these barbaric attacks and their families are in our thoughts and prayers.”

“We stand united with the French people. We are in solidarity with the French government and its people. We stand united against every kind of violence, extremism, bloodshed and terrorism.”

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community said that terrorism has become one of the biggest threats of the current times, and it sees no borders and does not spare any person, including children, women and elderly people.

“It is time for the entire world, irrespective of faith, colour, creed or nationality, to unite together against such atrocities. It is crucial time to take concrete measures and bold steps collectively – with collective wisdom and efforts – to fight back the curse of terrorism. Together we can win this war against humanity.”

The Community added, that “the ISIS claimed it was behind these attacks. ISIS has really become an extreme threat and grave crisis for the world. These terrorists and extremists had hijacked the religion of Islam – the religion of peace, for their personal agenda and interests through committing vicious atrocities. In reality, Islam does not approve of disorder in any form.”

“Islam is far from teaching terrorism. It teaches rule of law, obedience to the authorities and does not let anyone to take the law in his own hands. The Holy Quran clearly states: “Those who create disorder in the earth, they are the real losers, and commit not iniquity in the earth, creating disorder, and Allah loves not disorder.”

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community added that The Holy Quran in fact champions the sanctity of human life and states:

“…whosoever killed a person, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind; and whoso gave life to one, it shall be as if he had given life to all mankind.” (5:33)

Pray for ParisHazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Caliph and Worldwide Leader of the Ahmadiyya Community has said: “Nowhere does Islam permit taking the law into one’s own hands or to injure or murder anyone. Yet these so-called Muslims and Muslim groups still do not abstain from such cruelties and atrocities.”

“We Ahmadi Muslims sympathise and love humanity and so wherever mankind suffers in any way it leaves us grieved and pained. We are highly grieved and disturbed with these attacks. Our hearts are filled with love and compassion for them. Long live humanity.” www.GozoNews.com Read more in GozoNews:     The Malta Independent

Does Islam need reform?

Source/Credit: The Times of Malta, by Laiq Ahmed Atif, Photo: www.shutterstock.com

If we look at the current state of affairs of the world we find thatit is passing through turbulent times, be it political or social unrest, economic hardship, the ravages of some disease, man-made or natural disasters, tragic incidents – there is much hardship and sorrow in the world today.

Similarly, when analysing the situation in the Muslim world, we find that the majority of the Muslim countries are facing grave difficulties due to increasing conflict and division.

In fact, some Muslim majority countries stand on the brink of complete destruction. Their leaders and politicians neither act with justice nor with the fear of God in their hearts, while some members of the public are expressing love for their nations in a harmful way.

As a result of such division, violence and aggression has increased hugely in the recent past. In the Muslim world there are many organisations whose wrong acts defame Allah, His Prophet and the religion of Islam.

Their wrongdoings, extremist ideology and terrorist acts have made the entire world very cautious and concerned.

Because of the escalating extremism and violence around the world and specifically in the Muslim world, voices about the reformation of Islam are being heard from many corridors and from different corners of the world.

Many people in the developed world consider religion to be the primary cause of world disorder, however this is due to a misunderstanding of religion itself. The disorder and injustice we see around the world is not as a result of religion, rather it is being perpetrated by self-interest and greed. It is a result of people misusing the name of God to fulfil their vested interests, and it is also a result of the denial of the very existence of God.

History bears witness to the fact that Islam itself was a great movement of re-formation and prosperity in society. The holy founder of Islam, throughout his life, led a great movement of reformation where uneducated and uncivilised people of Arabia became righteous, God-fearing people and servants of humanity.

The Islamic teachings are equally practicable today as these were in the time of their revelation; the difference lies with those who interpret it wrongly and misquote these teachings for their personal interests and agendas. It is not the fault of the teachings, but of those who are not ready to understand the philosophy of the Islamic teachings and misuse this God-given guidance.

In brief, the Muslims have deviated from the true understanding of Islamic teachings. It is Muslims who have to understand what it means to be a true Muslim.

It is Muslims who need to reform themselves to demonstrate the true love of God and of humanity through their actions

According to the teachings of the Holy Quran, the love that a Muslim must adopt for humanity should be such that he or she should become restless upon seeing any other person in discomfort. A true Muslim must always be watchful of the sentiments of others and must sacrifice his own comfort for the sake of the comfort of his fellow beings.

Muslims are those who live peacefully with one another.

The Prophet Muhammad said: “A Muslim is the one from whose hands and tongue every peaceful human being is safe.”

Islam believes in peace and security, the very name ‘Islam’ means ‘peace and serenity’.

The Holy Quran declares that “disorder and persecution is worse than killing” (2:192), “and God does not like disorder” (2:206). Islam establishes the sanctity of human life and declares that killing one is to kill all mankind (5:33), defines “villainy in the land” not as political warfare, but religious persecution (22:40-41),and instructs Muslims to remain law-abiding citizens and always obey the authorities (4:60).

The separation of religion and state (4:60) and the democratic system of government is preferred and highly commended by Islam (42:39). The Prophet Muhammad said: “The leader of a country is the servant of that nation.”

Islam condemns any compulsion in religion (2:257), promotes universal religious freedom for all (22:41), believes in spiritual equality and practical equity between the sexes (4:125), and affirms equality of mankind (49:14), preaches universal salvation (2:63), upholds freedom of speech (21:25), and teaches that war can only be in self-defense (22:40) and as an absolute last resort (4:98).

These few references are clear evidence that Islam is a reformed, practicable and comprehensive religion.

I believe that it is Muslims, not Islam, who need reformation.

The question that arises is that if Islam is a comprehensive religion, then why is there so much violence and unrest in the Muslim world?

The simple answer to this question is that Islamic teachings are not being practised according to their spirit. The leaders have misinterpreted the teachings and misguided their people for their personal and worldly interests.

The erroneous interpretation of Jihad and raising sword against non-Muslims, or even against those Muslims who may not agree to their thought and interpretation, has also engulfed the Muslim world with violence, aggression, intolerance, extremism and terrorism.

Such scenario was foretold by the Prophet Muhammad and he clearly mentioned the malpractices of the leaders of the later days.

He said: “There will be a decline in religious faith and nothing would be left of Islam except its name and nothing would be left of the Holy Quran except its text. Mosques though full of worshippers will be empty of guidance. The religious scholars will be the worst creation under the canopy of Heaven.”

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community believes and practises Islamic teachings according to their pristine purity and originality, and categorically rejects terrorism and extremism in any form and for any reason, whatsoever.

Over a century ago, the founder of the Ahmadiyya Community emphatically declared that an aggressive “jihad by the sword” has no place in Islam.

Islam believes in moderation, peace, security, tolerance, mutual respect, service to humanity and love for all and hatred for none.

The essence of Islam is the love of God and the love of humanity. The message is clear: it is Muslims who need to reform themselves to demonstrate the true love of God and of humanity through their actions.

They must bring a significant change from cultures of violence, aggression and killing to cultures of tolerance, serenity and peace; and become like those “from whom hands and tongue every peaceful human being is safe”. Find original post in The Times

Promoting the culture of respect

Source/Credit: The Malta Independent http://www.independent.com.mt/ , Saturday, October 24, 2015, by Laiq Ahmed Atif

Decency, tolerance, understanding and mutual respect are few of the very basic values and principles we learn and teach to our children at the very early stage of life. The Holy Prophet Muhammad emphasised so much on this subject and said that do not only respect elders but also ‘respect your children and cultivate in them the best of manners.’

In the modern, diverse and intercultural world, such values have become extremely important; and without wisdom, reason, understanding and respecting the sentiments of each other, an effective and harmonious co-existence cannot be dreamed.

Local newspapers have published many write-ups and letters about the vilification law, both in its favour and opposition. Some have argued that such laws are a hindrance for artists to show their capabilities. I think that, without vilifying any religion, or even any human being, the right of arts can be exercised fully.

Conveying a message in a positive and decent way in itself is a great art. I am failed to understand why it is so important and compulsory to being offensive for an effective arts work? The arts, no doubt, are a great medium of conveying message and a means for the artists’ demonstration of thoughts and qualities, but this can be achieved without hurting the sentiments of others, vilifying any religion or religious personalities, and mocking with any human being.

Secondly, even if it is considered the right of an artist to vilify any religion or draw or play anything which might be offensive to others, does not necessarily mean that such right must be practiced. I think just because one can vilify or ridicule religion, or any other person, doesn’t mean one should do it. Such things should be avoided for the greater good and the peace of the society.

I would like to give an example, where during last few centuries, in sub-continent India, there was a split between Muslims and Hindus on the issue of the cow. The Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community presented a feasible solution, and said that, for the establishment of peace and harmony, Muslims can stop slaughtering and eating the meat of cow because it is considered holy by the Hindus. He said:

“Remember if we are permitted to eat something, it does not follow that we have to eat it. Everything permissible is not obligatory. There are many things which we know to be lawful yet we do not necessarily practice them. To treat Hindus [or anyone] with decency and kindness is one of the important Islamic injunctions— If for the sake of achieving a higher goal one forgoes a right, it will not be against the spirit of the Divine law. To consider something to be lawful is one thing, to utilise it is another.”

He also emphasised that the peace is a common heritage of mankind, so it should be safeguarded even by personal sacrifices.

I think, no one is against the arts – instead, the culture of arts should be promoted and encouraged, because it is instrumental in shaping the thoughts of people. I think if we all give space to each other in the diverse society and respect the sentiments of each other – be it political, religious, social or artistic – this will lead to success; and it will sow the seeds of unity instead of division.

Therefore, if peace is to be established, we will have to respect the sentiments of each other and safeguard the rights of society. It is easy to spread hatred but very difficult to sow the seeds of love. Modern man has come so close to other men that he can find the whole world before him on the touch of a button while seated on his sofa in his drawing room. Were all the efforts to achieve that nearness of a global village aimed at kindling the fire of hatred or were they to witness the evergreen fruit-bearing trees of love and sympathy for mankind? You will certainly agree with me that our goal should be to acquire and promote respect, harmony and love.

Head of Ahmadiyya delivers historic address at Dutch Parliament

On 6 October 2015, World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Fifth Khalifa (Caliph), His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, delivered an historic address at a special session of the Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs at the Netherlands National Parliament in the country’s capital city of Den Haag (The Hague) in front of an audience of more than 100 dignitaries and guests.

Upon arrival at 4.35pm, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad was greeted by Harry van Bommel (Member of the House of Representatives and Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs), who escorted His Holiness to the Committee Room.

The formal session commenced as Mr van Bommel welcomed His Holiness to Parliament and introduced the committee members.

He also welcomed various foreign Parliamentarians, Ambassadors of State and dignitaries representing countries including Albania, Croatia, Ireland, Montenegro, Spain and Sweden.

Thereafter, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad delivered the keynote address during which he deemed the threat to the world’s peace and security to be the critical issue of this era.

His Holiness gave solutions to the problems faced by the world based on the teachings of the Holy Quran. He also called on world powers to support less economically developed nations and to refrain from exploitation.

Speaking about the increasing lack of peace in the world, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“In today’s world we see that certain issues are constantly being highlighted and labelled as the most significant problems of our time. If we analyse the situation objectively, we realise that world peace and security is indeed the most critical issue of our time. Unquestionably, with each day that passes the world is becoming increasingly unstable and dangerous and there are a number of potential causes of this.”

His Holiness said there were various factors affecting the world’s peace and security, including worldwide economic instability; a lack of justice and trust between governments and members of the public; and the increasing discrepancy between developed and developing nations.

The religious leader said that neither Islam, nor any other religion, could be blamed for the violent acts of extremists.

His Holiness stated that the notion that the Holy Quran or the Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him) ever advocated any form of extremism or terrorism was

“an injustice of the very highest order”.

Referring to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s unwavering commitment to peace, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“I, and indeed all true Ahmadi Muslims, are not amongst those people who are creating or partaking in today’s disorder and unrest. Rather, we are the people who desire peace in the world. We are the people who seek to heal the world. We are the people who seek to unite mankind. We are the people who seek to transform all hatreds and enmities into love and affection. And most certainly, we are the people who make every possible effort towards establishing world peace.”

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad continued:

“As a religious leader, I wish to say that instead of blaming and provoking one another, we should focus upon building true and long-lasting world peace.”

Later, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad cited a number of Quranic verses, which proved that Islam stood for religious freedom and universal human rights.

His Holiness also explained that the wars fought by the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and the early Muslims were entirely defensive in nature and were fought in order to protect the principles of freedom of religion and belief.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“In chapter 2, verse 194, Allah has commanded Muslims that they are not permitted to engage in any battle or war where religious freedom already exists. Therefore, no Muslim country, group or individual has the right to engage in any form of violence, warfare or lawlessness, either against the State or its people.”

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad continued:

“Quite simply, in Europe and in the West, the governments are secular and so a Muslim can never have the right to violate the laws of the land, to violently oppose the government or to instigate any form of rebellion or insurgency.”

Speaking about the paramount importance of justice in international relations, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“Islam teaches that in all circumstances, no matter how difficult, you must remain firmly attached to the principles of justice and integrity… The truth is that sustainable peace can never be established until there is justice at every level of society.”

Referring to Islam’s commitment to universal religious freedom, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“In truth, Islam guarantees the freedom, liberty and protection of the people of all religions. Islam protects the right of every individual to follow his or her own chosen path or belief.”

Reiterating his concern about the world’s security, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“The world stands in desperate need of peace and security. This is the urgent issue of our time. All nations and all peoples must come together for the greater good and unite in their efforts to stop all forms of cruelty, persecution and injustice perpetrated in the name of religion or in any other way. This includes the mockery of any religion which can incite frustrations and resentment and of course also includes the hateful activities of extremist groups who are falsely justifying their evil acts in the name of religion.”

Concluding, His Holiness called on the major powers to desist from all forms of exploitation of weaker nations.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“Today, we are seeing many first-world countries increasing their investments in the poorer and developing nations. It is imperative that they act with justice and seek to help those nations and not merely utilise their natural resources and cheap labour forces for their own national gains and profit-making.”

 Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad continued:

“They (affluent nations) should seek to re-invest the majority of what they earn in poorer countries and use the wealth to help the local people develop and to flourish. If the developed countries act in this way, it will not just be of benefit to the poorer nations but will prove mutually beneficial. It will increase trust and confidence and remove frustrations that are building up. it will be a means of improving the local economies and so in turn will elevate the world’s economy and financial health.”

Following the conclusion of his address, members of the Standing Committee were given the opportunity to ask His Holiness his views on a range of issues, including religious freedom, freedom of speech, the refugee crisis and the persecution of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

Later, His Holiness personally met various dignitaries and guests and was also given a tour of certain historic rooms within the Parliament.

Malta: Eid-ul-Azha 2015

The Muslims celebrate Eid twice a year, Eid-ul-Fitr and the other, which comes about 10 weeks later, is called Eid-ul-Adha.

Eid-ul-Azha (Festival of Sacrifice) is a festival comes about ten weeks after Eid-ul-Fitr, and marks the completion of Hajj (Holy pilgrimage to Mecca). It is the festival of Sacrifice that commemorate the obedience of Hadhrat Ibrahim and his son Hadhrat Ismail to the commandment of Allah. Hadhrat Ibrahim had a series of dreams in which he saw himself sacrificing his eldest son Ismail. He inferred that it was perhaps the will of God that he should sacrifice the life of his son.

Hadhrat Ibrahim, being most obedient to God, was about to sacrifice the life of his son Ismail, when God commanded him to stop and gave him the good news that he had indeed fulfilled His command. God was so pleased with Ibrahim because of his obedience that He multiplied his progeny into billions. He was also given the great honor of being the forefather of the Holy Prophet of Islam . On the day of Eid those Muslims who can afford to sacrifice an animal are enjoined to do so after Eid Prayer.

In Malta, the Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated on Thursday, September 24, 2015 | 10:00AM | For more info, please contact, amjmalta@gmail.com

Demystifying the veil

A debate on the wearing of the burqa in public places erupted in this country recently and many people from different segments of society commented and aired their opinions.

The subject of ‘veil’ and, particularly, ‘the Islamic veil’ hits the headlines from time to time. Often, the arguments made against the ‘Islamic veil’ or against the ‘burqa’ are the same: security, oppression, women’s dignity, cultural identity and so on.

To start with, the wearing of a veil is not unique to Islam and extraneous to the West. A veil, hijab or some head covering is a form of religious duty found universally in the world religions, societies and traditions.

Although there are vast differences regarding the mode of using a veil and the conditions applied to it, the central idea is everywhere. Where it is not mentioned clearly, it is likely that it may gradually have either been discontinued or the practice gradually faded away.

The Holy Bible also treats the wearing of veil as an inherently righteous undertaking). The Virgin Mary is often depicted in works of art with her head covered. In fact, for a time it was compulsory for Catholic women to have a headscarf while attending church service. Today, Christian nuns and Amish women continue to cover their heads.

Similarly, in many traditional Jewish and Hindu communities, women wear head coverings.

In Islam, the veil signifies modesty and is a means of dignity, honour and protection. The requirement of using a veil is not intended to imprison a woman or render her susceptible to male dominance. Rather, it is intended to enhance her God-given faculties.

What the Holy Quran directs is that women should avoid displaying their beauty and should not look at strange men. Those women who have to go out to fulfil their responsibilities may do so but they must guard their glances.

Similarly, for men, the Holy Quran also adopts an excellent position in this regard and says: “Say to the believing men that they restrain their eyes and guard their private parts. This is the act through which they will attain purification.”

The Islamic injunction that men and women should both restrain themselves in certain ways aims at safeguarding them against slipping, stumbling and be disposed towards vices and evils.

Another purpose of the veil is to protect women from unwarranted harm and safeguard their dignity and honour.

Islam advises women to take protective measures and says: “They should pull down upon them their outer cloaks from their heads over their faces. That is more likely that they may thus be recognised and not molested.”

Therefore, the veil is a physically-manifested barrier to unwarranted harassment. It is not a disgrace or a hindrance for a woman.

On the contrary, it honours her and frees her from the bondage of society and the obstacles that prevent her intellectual, moral and spiritual advancement.

Indeed, by electing to safeguard herself and her virtues, a woman protects society from social evils such as adultery, spread of disease, children born out of wedlock, rape and divorce.

As far as the issue of freedom and equality of Muslim women is concerned, a multitude of Quranic references attest to a woman’s equality to man. For example, the Quran unequivocally explains that men and women belong to the same species and possess identical aptitudes and propensities.

Islam also attributes great importance to the kind manner in which women should be treated and the Quran advises to “consort with them in kindness”.

Prophet Muhammad admonished: “The best of you is he who behaves best towards the members of his family”… “Paradise lies at the feet of your mothers”… “He who brings up his daughters well, and makes no distinction between them and his sons, will enter in Paradise.”

The observance of the veil is a religious duty for Muslim women, however, it should be observed with wisdom and moderation as Prophet Muhammad said: “In all things, moderation is best.”

The variations of the dress are purely cultural. Which style a Muslim woman chooses to wear depends on tradition and cultural variation.

It is true that some Muslim men and even governments insist that women cover themselves from head to toe at all costs and, sometimes, there is also oppression and compulsion in this regard.

Religious extremists have victimised Muslim women.

There are many sad stories about husbands, fathers or so-called leaders abusing and even murdering women because they were not covered enough. All such actions are completely wrong. This is oppression and not Islamic.

I think it is the foremost duty of religious leaders to educate their people positively and effectively through wisdom and moderation and also to provide them with the correct understanding of matters of a religious manner.

The veil does not prevent communication. Technological advances have made it easier for society to communicate virtually without ‘face-to-face’ dialogue. The face has never been the only essential tool for effective communication.

Religious and political leaders can communicate effectively with the public via the radio just as they can in person. Similarly, a Muslim woman can effectively communicate with others even while wearing her veil.

Quite obviously, it is the substance of what is said that counts more than the appearance of who said it.

With regard to the issue of security, as a true Muslim I believe that national security should be given foremost importance and it should not be compromised at any cost and for any reason whatsoever. However, it is equally necessary to analyse whether the veil is truly a hindrance to national security.

To my understanding, most of the extremist and suicidal attacks reported were committed by individuals who were not wearing a veil.

Moreover, for security reasons, the civil authorities have both the right and the duty to check the identification of the person wearing a veil and Muslim women should abide by any security instructions issued and are in duty bound to willingly identify themselves.

This is also their religious duty: to cooperate with the civil authorities and to assist them in maintaining peace and security within a country.

Prophet Muhammad instructed all Muslims that the “love of one’s country of residence is part of faith”.  The Times:

Humanity washed ashore

Source: The Malta Independent www.independent.com.mt | Monday 7 September 2015, by Laiq Ahmed Atif | amjmalta@gmail.com

The tragedies of migrants are not a new reality of the current times. Every year, hundreds of migrants die at sea on their way to find a better future.

Last year a tragic incident happed in the Mediterranean Sea and many lost their lives; nearly 28 bodies of the victims were brought to Malta and a funeral ceremony was held at Mater Dei. I was also present there and it left irremovable marks on my memory; those moments cannot be described in words.

The latest tragedy of migrants and the picture of a Syrian toddler washed up on a beach lying face down in the surf near Turkey’s fashionable resort town of Bodrum, has shaken the entire world, and the lovers of humanity were extremely moved by this heartbreaking incident. The picture of the young boy, which has gone viral on the social media, paints a thousand words; the beautiful angel’s lifeless body on the beach is like ‘humanity washed ashore’. The picture alone should be sufficient to shake the conscience of the world leaders.

I believe that the time has come to better understand the situation of migrants and not to turn our backs towards their misery. It is time to advocate a comprehensive approach to cater this human tragedy and demand the entire world to play their effective role in this regard; and to alleviate their sufferings and miseries in a loving, compassionate and humane manner.

It gives me great pain when such traumatic happenings do not awaken the Muslim world to come forward to play their role and offer assistance to those in need and to dedicate some of their God-gifted wealth for the welfare of humanity – which is one of the two basic principles of Islamic faith.

While explaining the qualities of virtuous people, the Holy Quran states: ‘And they feed, for love of God, the poor, the orphan, and the prisoner, saying, ‘We feed you for Allah’s pleasure only. We desire no reward nor thanks from you. Verily, we fear from our Lord a frowning and distressful day (76:9-11).’

This verse also signifies that the righteous believers give the poor wholesome and agreeable food. This implies that the Muslims are expected to give in the charity the things they love most. Elsewhere the Holy Quran says: ‘You cannot attain to righteousness unless you spend in the way of God out of that which you love most (3:93).’

The Holy Prophet Muhammad said, ‘All creatures are God’s family. So, Allah likes the person, from among all humans, who treats His family (creatures) well and looks after their needs. The Gracious God will be Merciful to those who show mercy to others. You show mercy to the dwellers of the earth, and the One in the heavens will have mercy on you.’

He said further that: ‘Whosoever helps remove the worldly anguish and suffering of others will have his anguish and suffering removed by Allah the Almighty on the Day of Judgment. Whosoever brings relief to a poor person and brings ease to him will have ease created for him by Allah the Almighty in the hereafter.’

Once the Holy Prophet Muhammad was sitting with his companions and he said on the day of Judgement Allah is going to ask you a question and the question will be “I was sick and you did not enquire about my health.” The person will say O God you are the honour of this universe, you are never sick. Allah will say no, one of my servants was sick and you would have enquired about his health, and you would have found me there. And then he will raise so many questions and he will ask I was hungry and you did no feed me, I was thirsty and you have not given me water. I did not have clothes and you did not cloth me. And every time the person will say O God you are honour of this universe, you have everything, you are never in need of these. God will say one of my servants had needed that. And then every time he will say if you could have done this you would have found me there.

In other words, the true Muslims have the responsibility to help the needy people, and those who do not pay attention to these commandments have no right to call themselves the ‘righteous’ people. To become truly virtuous it is highly recommended by Islam to serve humanity, feed the hungry, assist the weak, help the poor and become a true well-wisher of mankind.

I believe that, if the international community including the Muslim countries decide and show their sincere willingness and determination, the migrant crisis can not only be resolved effectively but also in much shorter period of time. Together with firm conviction and dedication this loss of human lives, and the washing of humanity ashore can be stopped.

Id-Dikjarazzjoni Universali tad-Drittijiet Umani tal-Ġnus Magħquda f’Artiklu 18 jinqara hekk: “Kulħadd għandu l-jedd għal-libertà tal-ħsieb, tal-kuxjenza u tar-reliġjon; dan il-jedd iħaddan il-libertà li wieħed ibiddel ir-reliġjon jew il-konvinzjoni tiegħu u li jkun ħieles, kemm waħdu kif ukoll ma’ oħrajn, fil-beraħ jew fil-privat, jistqarr ir-reliġjon jew il-konvinzjoni tiegħu fit-tagħlim, fl-għemejjel, fil-qima u fil-ħarsien tagħhom.”

Alla pprovda lill-bniedem il-mezzi kollha li bihom jista’ jsib il-mogħdija ġusta, u ġie mżejjen b’għajnejn kemm spiritwali kif ukoll fiżiċi ħalli jkun jista’ jagħraf bejn it-tajjeb u l-ħażin. Madankollu, Alla ħalla l-għażla tat-tiftix tat-triq f’idejn il-bniedem, skont ir-rieda ħielsa tiegħu, mingħajr l-ebda sfurzar. Alla jgħid fil-Koran Imqaddes: Aħna ma tajniehx żewġ għajnejn, u lsien u żewġ xofftejn? U Aħna wrejnieh iż-żewġ toroq prinċipali tat-tajjeb u l-ħażin. (90:9-11) Aħna wrejnieh it-Triq, minkejja li jista’ jkun grat jew ingrat. (76:04)

Madankollu, huwa allegat li fil-bidu l-Iżlam infirex taħt id-dell tax-xabla, li kienet tintrefa’ kontra kull individwu li kien jirrifjuta li jħaddan l-Iżlam, u li l-Musulmani kellhom imponuta fuqhom obbligazzjoni reliġjuża li jikkonvertu n-nies għall-Iżlam bis-setgħa tax-xabla.

Biex nifhmu dan il-punt, huwa meħtieġ li nistudjaw it-tagħlim ippreżentat mill-Iżlam dwar l-isfurzar fi kwistjonijiet reliġjużi. Fi kliem ieħor, huwa aċċettat – fid-dawl tat-tagħlim Iżlamiku – li n-nies jiġu kkonvertiti għall-Iżlam bil-forza, u li l-Iżlam għandu jixtered bl-użu tax-xabla?

L-Iżlam ma jippermettix l-użu tal-forza bħala strument għat-tixrid tal-Messaġġ tiegħu. Huwa jiddikjara: ‘M’għandu jkun hemm l-ebda sfurzar fil-kwistjoni tar-reliġjon’ (2:257).

Għaldaqstant m’hemm bżonn ta’ ebda ġegħil. Inħallu f’idejn il-bniedem biex jiddetermina fejn tinsab il-verità. Waqt li indirizza l-Fundatur Qaddis tal-Iżlam, Alla wissieh ċar u tond biex ma jsegwi l-ebda idea ta’ forza fit-tentattiv tiegħu li jirriforma s-soċjetà. Il-pożizzjoni tiegħu bħala riformatur hija mfissra b’mod espliċitu ħafna fil-versi li ġejjin:

“Għalhekk wissihom, għaliex inti m’intix ħlief il-wissej; inti m’għandek l-ebda awtorità biex tikkostrinġihom (88:22-23). Mhijiex ir-responsabbiltà tiegħek li ġġagħalhom jimxu fit-triq it-tajba; iżda Alla jiddirieġi lil min jixtieq Hu (2:273). Iżda jekk jitilqu ’l hemm, Aħna ma bgħatniekx bħala għassies fuqhom. Id-dmir tiegħek huwa li twassal il-Messaġġ. Ħalli f’idejn Alla biex jagħmel il-Messaġġ effettiv” (42:49).

Aktar minn hekk, Alla s-Setgħani jagħmilha kompletament ċara li jekk l-isfurzar ikollu jsir permessibbli fil-kwistjonijiet ta’ fidi, mela għalfejn Alla jkun ħalla l-affarijiet f’idejn in-nies, meta Huwa stess seta’ jisforza lin-nies biex jemmnu fir-reliġjon? Alla jistqarr li l-introduzzjoni tal-prinċipju tal-isfurzar fir-reliġjon qatt ma kienet parti mill-pjan tiegħu, u Huwa qatt ma ppermetta l-ebda konnessjoni bejn ir-reliġjon u l-kostrinġiment. Alla s-Setgħani jgħid:

“U jekk il-Mulej tagħkom kellu jimponi r-rieda Tiegħu, ċertament li dawk kollha li jinsabu fuq din l-art kienu jemmnu lkoll flimkien. Allura inti se ġġiegħel lill-bnedmin biex isiru kredenti?” (10:100)

U għidu, “Din hija l-verità mill-Mulej tagħkom; għalhekk ħallu lil dak li jrid, jemmen, u ħallu lil dak li jrid, ma jemminx” (18:30). Alla se jgħid: “Aħna żgur li wassalnielkom il-verità; iżda l-maġġoranza tagħkom kontu kuntrarju għall-verità.” (43:79)

Għidu, “O ja infidili! ‘Jiena ma nadurax dak li inti tadura’; ‘U lanqas tadura inti dak li nadura jien.’ ‘U jiena m’iniex se nadura dak li tadura inti’; ‘U inti m’intix se tadura dak li nadura jien. Għalik ir-reliġjon tiegħek, u għalija r-reliġjon tiegħi.” (109:1-7)

Jekk Alla Nnifsu ma jisfurzax lin-nies biex jemmnu, min aħna biex ngħollu x-xabla ħalli nġagħlu lill-oħrajn jemmnu?

Il-Qaddis Profeta Muħammad ippreżenta Dokument ta’ Libertà lill-Monasteru ta’ Santa Katarina fuq il-Muntanja Sinaj fis-sena 628, is-sitt sena tal-Ħeġira. Dak id-Dokument huwa, probabbli, l-aqwa eżempju tax-xewqa tiegħu għal-libertà tal-fidi u paċi interreliġjuża. Dan id-dokument monumentali qatt ma kien hemm bħalu qabel fl-istorja tal-umanità. Xi siltiet minn dan id-dokument huma kif ġej:

“Jiena nwiegħed li kull raħeb jew vjaġġatur li jfittex l-għajnuna tiegħi fil-muntanji, fil-foresti, deżerti jew abitazzjonijiet, jew postijiet ta’ adorazzjoni, jiena nbiegħed lill-għedewwa tiegħu bis-saħħa tal-ħbieb u l-ajjutanti tiegħi, tal-qraba kollha tiegħi u dawk kollha li jistqarru li se jsegwuni u niddefendihom, il-għaliex huma l-konvenzjoni tiegħi.

“L-ebda isqof mhu se jitkeċċa mill-veskovat tiegħu, l-ebda patri mill-monasteru tiegħu, l-ebda qassis mill-post ta’ adorazzjoni tiegħu, u l-ebda pellegrin mhu se jitwaqqaf fil-pellegrinaġġ tiegħu. Lanqas waħda mill-knejjes tagħhom jew postijiet oħra ta’ qima mhu se tiġi mitluqa, jew meqruda jew imġarrfa.

“Kull għajnuna se tingħata lilhom għat-tiswija tal-knejjes tagħhom. Se jkunu maħfura talli jilbsu l-armi. Se jkunu protetti mill-Musulmani. Araw li dan id-dokument jiġi onorat sa Jum il-Ġudizzju.”

Fil-qosor, l-Iżlam jissapportja l-libertà tal-fidi. It-tagħlim Koraniku jirribatti ċar u tond dawk l-allegazzjonijiet imqajma kontra l-Iżlam li jsostnu li dan jippermetti l-użu tal-forza, sfurzar u vjolenza f’isem ir-reliġjon, u li l-Iżlam inxtered bix-xabla u l-ġlied. Din l-allegazzjoni hija bla bażi mal-ewwel; il-pajjiżi, it-territorji u l-artijiet jistgħu jinħakmu bil-forza u l-popli jistgħu jiġu dominati u jsiru skjavi bix-xabla, iżda l-qlub qatt ma jistgħu jintrebħu bix-xabla. L-Iżlam rebaħ il-qlub tan-nies bis-saħħa tad-djalogu, tal-għarfien, tal-edukazzjoni, tal-persważjoni, tal-imħabba, tal-kompassjoni u bil-karattru nobbli u eżemplari tal-Qaddis Profeta Muħammad.

Ħażrat Mirża Taħir Aħmad, ir-Raba’ Kalif tal-Komunità Aħmadija Musulmana, jgħid: “L-ebda reliġjon b’messaġġ universali u ambizzjonijiet globali biex tgħaqqad lill-bniedem taħt bandiera waħda ma tista’ anke għal żmien qasir issostni l-idea li tuża l-forza biex ixxerred il-messaġġ tagħha. Ix-xwabel jistgħu jirbħu l-artijiet iżda mhux il-qlub. Il-forza tista’ tgħawweġ l-irjus iżda mhux l-imħuħ.”

THE PRESIDENT OF MALTA ADDRESSES THE ANNUAL PEACE SYMPOSIUM

The President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca addressed the Annual Peace Symposium organised by Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta.

The President spoke about the tragedies we all witnessed in recent days whereby hundreds of migrants lost their lives at sea. The President noted that a holistic approach needs to be adopted and that due attention needs to be given to the situation of the thousands of people that at this very moment are risking their lives to reach European shores.

The President described how migrants are fleeing their countries because they are forced to do so noting that some are fleeing conflicts; some are fleeing famine or persecution; some are fleeing abject poverty and others are fleeing because their lives and that of their loved ones are in danger. In doing so people are dying unnecessarily because the international community has the capacity to act and save lives.

The President recalled the title of the Peace Symposium and that freedom and peace is what migrants want. She encouraged those present to refrain from turning their backs on this reality and to advocate for a comprehensive approach from the international community and for a response based on empathy and understanding.

The President noted that we have to strive for an international community and policies that welcomes migrants in a safe and human way also acknowledging the added value migrants bring rather than opting for policies that continue to turn the Mediterranean into a cemetery.

The President concluded by saying that this loss of lives can be stopped. FIND MORE DETAILS:

Together against hatred

by Laiq Ahmed Atif

This is a very crucial juncture in the history of mankind and the issues of hatred, extremism and religious animosity need to be addressed and discussed because, in the final analysis, they are among the main contributors to international, racial and social clashes.

In recent months, the world has witnessed a horrific shape of hatred and extremism spread by Isis, the effects of which are not only limited to Arab countries but are being felt across the world.

The West has also started to realise and acknowledge that this is a war that is actually directly affecting it as well. Yet, this too is being underestimated; the truth is that this is a war against the entire world.

Isis is trying to inflame and incite fear and hatred, practising the worse form of violence and extremism and increasing committing vicious atrocities.

The situation is extremely alarming and has now become a cause of major concern for world leaders because the agenda and objectives of Isis and their so-called Caliph are utterly horrific and barbaric.

It is said that they want to take revenge on the world, conquer territories and nations, forcefully convert the entire world to their ideology and make sharia law (according to their understanding) applicable to each person in every land.

They are punishing and killing people as they please and taking many as captives.

Isis is heavily armed with sophisticated weapons, systems and artillery. Indeed, it is not inconceivable that they could eventually even acquire nuclear armaments too.

In brief, the desperate state of affairs brought about by Isis really seems to be leading us down a path to something that would be much bigger and even more devastating.

Is the world ready to let this extremism and hatred spread and ruin its peace and serenity? If not, are people of the world ready to fight back? Can we win this battle?

I believe that, yes, through collective and selfless efforts we can win this battle and, yes, together we can conquer hatred. Together we have the power to defeat the most hateful acts.

We need to be wary of those who seek to split us apart and spread hatred by attempting to blame peaceful Muslims or the Islamic faith for what these terrorists are doing. Islam should not be associated with their barbaric acts and we have to understand that their aim is not to spread Islam or peace in the world. Their sole purpose is to gain power and spread fear and hatred.

I think there is both a short-term and a long-term way to counter this problem.

There is need to make a distinction between the countries where Isis has spread and Isis itself. The Isis issue should be addressed separately and dealt with collectively.

It is important to target the root cause and not only the outcome of this hatred

The Libyan issue could also be treated separately and it is important to give peace another chance there as well as finding a political solution through dialogue and diplomacy. This would be beneficial both to Libya and to the entire region.

With regard to Isis, it is essential that something is urgently done to stop funds reaching it. It should also be resolved that no country would provide or sell them weapons to its elements and if any State breaches this condition it would face the consequences.

Secondly, the narrative of the people of the region needs to be changed and they should be given adequate information to be able to understand what this is all about.

It should be taken very seriously and we must ensure that this is not a war between religion and secularism, between Islam and West or between Muslims and Christians. This is a battle between good and bad, between supporters of humanity and enemies of humanity and between love and hatred.

Thirdly, the affected and neighbouring Arab and African countries should play their role and the Arab League must also use its influence and abilities at this time of real crisis.

Rather than western countries intervening to remove Isis, the United Nations should send a peacekeeping force to the region. This should consist of only Arab soldiers not to make it appear like some kind of western invasion or a sign of imperialism. A similar suggestion had been made by then Israeli President, Shimon Peres, with regard to the Syrian crisis a few years ago.

Fourthly, it is important to target the root cause and not only the outcome of this hatred. The real long-term solution is to replace the guns and the weapons by pens and books in the entire region and, particularly, in Isis-affected areas, because education is key for the peaceful and prosperous existence of any nation.

Fifthly, moderate and peace-loving political and religious leaders should stand up and guide their people. Their voices should be given weight, as President Barak Obama said: “The world must continue to lift up the voices of Muslim clerics and scholars who teach the true peaceful nature of Islam.”

Lastly, the prayers and unity of us all against every kind of hatred and extremism is crucial. Let’s pray to Almighty God to help us make the world a better place and to conquer extremism and hatred. Read Original Post:

Interfaith worship center in Gozo

Ahmadi Muslim leader hopes Gozo church-mosque-synagogue project not an image-building exercise

The House of One’s design incorporates a church, a mosque, and a synagogue circling a central meeting place to be used for inter-faith discussion.

Source/Credit: MaltaToday, Tim Diacono, 22 April 2015

Archbishop Charles Scicluna has welcomed a project to construct a church, a mosque and a synagogue under one roof in Gozo.

In a brief statement to MaltaToday, Scicluna said that his views echoed those of Gozo bishop Mario Grech, who had described the project as an “interesting” one in the context of a globalised world with a growing level of cultural and religious overlap and dialogue.

Earlier this month, Sunday newspaper Illum revealed the Ministry for Gozo’s plans to construct this place of worship on the outskirts of Xewkija, close to the Gozo Stadium. The newspaper also revealed the early plans for the building, designed by architect Richard England, designer of places of worship such as the Millennium Chapel in Paceville and the Church of St Francis in Qawra.

“Catholics, Muslims, and Jews are all brothers since we all recognise the same God,” Grech said. “As Catholics, we respect all religions, but Islam and Judaism in particular.

“We are living in a society in which, for some reason or other, people appear to have grown fed up of religion. It is clear that some of these people have mistaken understandings of God, while others have a great thirst for God in the hope of finding answers to their profound questions.

“One can only hope that this proposed place of worship can somehow help people fill up their existential vacuums.”

The idea behind a church-mosque-synagogue is not the first of its kind, with a similar project in Berlin, the ‘House of One’, expected to open its doors next year.

The House of One’s design incorporates a church, a mosque, and a synagogue circling a central meeting place to be used for inter-faith discussion.

Laiq Ahmed Atif, president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta, believes that the Gozitan version should take it a step or two further.

“I hope that it will be a fully inclusive project that brings all religious communities on board, and not just main strands of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism,” he told MaltaToday. “If it proves to be a truly inclusive project, then I think it will bear wonderful fruit.

“If there is true conviction towards promoting inclusivity behind this project, then I’ll consider it a very positive step and will fully support it. I don’t believe in image-building, but rather in doing something because you have a clear conviction in it.”

He pointed out that the concept of people of different faiths praying under one roof is by no means alien to Islam.

“The life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad is filled with examples of how he always advocated freedom of religion and worship. To give one example, when a delegation of Christians from the city of Najran came to visit Medina, the Holy Prophet happily gave them permission to worship in his own Mosque, in their own way and to give worship not towards the Kaaba but to worship in a westerly direction as was their method.”

“Prayer is common in all three religions,” he said. “Rather than fighting amongst us, why don’t we create a place of worship for all? I’m very hopeful that this project will help create an atmosphere of mutual respect and harmony.” Read original post:
