The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta, together with Msida Local Council, Msida Parish Church and the Moroccan Community organized an open Interfaith Fasting event for understanding the concept of Fasting in different religions, to celebrate fasting together and to foster mutual respect and harmony. This unique event was very well organized and was attended by around 250 guests from all walks of life and religions. President Emeritus H.E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, Msida Mayor Ms. Margaret Baldacchino Cefai, Archpriest of Msida Parish Church Dun Mario Mifsud, President Moroccan Community sister Dounia Borg and President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta Imam Laiq Ahmed Atif delivered their talks. The event was presented by Mr. Alex Zammit and Ms. Daniela.
Imam Laiq Ahmed Atif said that, according to Islamic Teachings the basic purpose of Fasting is لَعَلَّكُمْ تتقون – to become devout, pious, loyal to our Creator, to find Him and to strengthen the bond with Him, to become righteous, pure heart and generous; and so that we grow in our character. The purpose of fasting is to show love, compassion and solidarity with all the people around us. The word Ramadan in Arabic means ‘two warmness’, or ‘two loves’ – the love of God, and the love of humanity. During the month of Ramadan man grows in these two loves. When he makes physical sacrifices and does spiritual meditation he understands more what it means to be in love with God and with mankind.
