Sharia law in a nutshell

The Islamic law, also known as sharia law, is one of the most misunderstood subjects in the contemporary world, both by Muslims and non-Muslims.

From time to time, we hear the echoes and slogans of implementation and imposition of sharia law from many corridors around the world.

A large number of Muslims believe that sharia law should be applied and implemented at once in each and every country of the world, both Muslim and non-Muslim alike.

And non-Muslims think that if sharia is applied no one will remain safe and secure, that followers of the other religions will be forcefully bent to accept Islam, and freedom of speech and faith will vanish from this planet once and forever.

In fact, it is not the love of sharia or Islam that is urging some sections of Muslims to demand sharia law, but it has been exploited by some Muslim governments, politicians, radicals, religious clerics and zealots as an effective instrument to gain power and strength, demonstrate supremacy and rule society in the name of God as they might like to. In brief, it is not spurred by the love of Islam but the hunger for power.

What is sharia? Why is its implementation so important for Muslims around the globe? Can Islamic sharia law be applied everywhere forcibly? Is it practicable in today’s world? Why is the West so afraid of Islamic sharia law? These are some of the basic important questions that come into mind and are frequently asked whenever Islamic sharia is discussed.

Sharia literally means “a way to the watering place or a path to life-giving water”. In religious terminology it refers to the laws and commandments given by God, because spiritual life sustains itself on divine teachings – sharia.

Sharia is not unique to Islam. It is not a new phenomenon or reality as every faith has its own form of sharia: the divine teachings and laws.

To sum up, religious teachings, commandments, laws and divine guidance is sharia.

For every religion that claims to be based on divine teachings and commandments, all those laws or principles constitute a sharia. Islamic sharia, in a nutshell, is the whole spiritual system of Islam.

A large number of people do not fully understand the Islamic sharia and only consider it to be the system of punishment. There are more than 6,000 verses in the Holy Quran and of those nearly 200 relate to talking about the sharia.

Islam believes in freedom of faith and rejects the idea of imposition of Islamic teachings on anyone

About 80 of the verses pertain specifically to the legalities that Muslims have to follow – the penal code which the Holy Quran provides is only a part of it.

Islamic Sharia can be divided into five main branches:  ibadah (ritual worship), muamalat (transactions and contracts), adab (behaviour, morals and manners), itiqadat (beliefs), and uqubat (punishments).

Islam prescribes certain laws or principles that govern all five main branches.

The demand for implementation of Islamic sharia law in the Western societies by some individuals or groups is also illogical and grossly misunderstood.

Islam believes in respecting the laws of the land. As far as religious matters are concerned, Muslims living in Western countries are already enjoying freedom of faith.

Sharia Law in a nutshellMuslims are not hindered from calling themselves Muslims, practising their faith and performing their rituals according to their religion. They are free to pray, to fast, to pay Zakaat (charity) and to go for the pilgrimage in Mecca, and so on.

Islamic rules and regulations and the code of life are only for Muslims. So far as the imposition of sharia law is concerned, this concept is against the very principle of the sharia that they want to impose.

Islam believes in freedom of faith and rejects the idea of imposition of Islamic teachings on anyone. The Holy Quran makes it abundantly clear that “there should be no compulsion in the matters of faith” (2:257).

The Quran has an injunction that Muslims are not allowed to impose their wills, their systems, their faith or beliefs on anyone: “It is the truth from your Lord; wherefore let him who will, believe, and let him who will, disbelieve” (18:30).

In a nutshell, Islamic sharia is a system of spiritual and moral reformation – through fulfilling the rights of God and the rights of mankind.

It is a system that seeks to create a harmonious and peaceful society in which justice, equality, affection, tolerance and freedom apply to all the people.

At its core, sharia is intended to develop and sustain a moral, prosperous, caring and just society.

Muslims living in Malta have a religious duty to love the island and their loyalty should lie with their country of residence, the local leader of an Islamist reformist movement said as the Maltese today celebrate 50 years of independence.

Speaking about patriotism amid growing fears of an ‘Islamification’ of Europe and the imposition of Sharia law in Malta, the president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Malta, Laiq Ahmed Atif, said the moral code of Islam could not, in any way, be imposed on those who did not practise the religion. 

“If someone tries to force it on others it means they are going against the teachings of Islam. It’s illogical, impossible and against Sharia law itself to bring it to a Catholic country like Malta,” Mr Atif said.

Members of groups set up recently on social media have for the past weeks associated the invasion of the Ottoman Empire of 450 years ago with the increased arrival of Muslims in Malta.

Others have said that just as the Maltese stood their ground 50 years ago to gain independence, the islanders should protect Malta from Muslim dominance.

Mr Atif is originally from Pakistan but has lived in Malta for seven years.

“The head of our community has insisted that we are not here or in any country to gain power and we do not have any political agenda.

“We are here to live in peace, share our values and build bridges between communities to reduce fear,” he said, adding the concern that someone was going to conquer Malta by force could be eliminated if all religions came together.

And, ultimately, people should not judge the religion of Islam on the actions of a few extremists who called themselves Muslims.

“There are individual examples of people using the name of religion for their own agenda. They’re using the name of God as a scapegoat,” he said when asked about declarations of violence in the name of God.

Quoting Prophet Muhammad, who said that “love for one’s country of residence is part of faith”, Mr Atif said that as a practising Muslim he declared his loyalty to Malta.

“Muslims living in Malta have a religious duty to love Malta, remain loyal to it, and always try to serve the country within their capacity. We should never harm the country.”

Today, Mr Atif’s community will pray for the prosperity and success of the country and the unity and strength of the nation.

“We will also decorate our homes and offices with candles to create an atmosphere of celebration and tell our children about the historic importance of the day. When they grow they have to serve the nation and work for the progress of the country.” Read More:

Il-Qaddis Profeta Muħammad (il-paċi tkun miegħu) enfasizza dan ħafna drabi. Hu għallem lill-Musulmani li “l-imħabba lejn pajjiżek hi parti mill-fidi.”

Għalhekk fl-Iżlam il-patrijottiżmu sinċier hu meqjus bħala xi ħaġa neċessarja. Biex verament iħobb lil Alla u lill-Iżlam, il-Musulman irid ukoll iħobb lin-nazzjon tiegħu. Huwa ċar biżżejjed li ma jistax ikun hemm kunflitt ta’ interess bejn l-imħabba li persuna għandha jkollha lejn Alla u l-imħabba tagħha lejn il-pajjiż. Billi l-imħabba lejn il-pajjiż hi parti mill-Iżlam, Musulman tajjeb irid jistinka biex jilħaq l-ogħla livelli ta’ lealtà lejn pajjiżu, għax dan huwa mezz ta’ kif jista’ jilħaq lil Alla u jkun qribu. Għaldaqstant, huwa impossibbli li l-imħabba vera li l-Musulman iħaddan lejn Alla tista’ qatt isservi bħala impediment għalih biex juri mħabba u lealtà vera lejn pajjiżu.

Nemmen li l-lealtà vera lejn il-pajjiż titlob relazzjoni msejsa fuq is-sinċerità u l-integrità. Titlob li dak li persuna turi fuq barra jkun bħal dak li hemm ġewwa. F’termini ta’ nazzjonalità, dawn il-prinċipji huma ta’ importanza assoluta. Għalhekk huwa fundamentali għall-persuna ta’ kull nazzjonalità li tistabbilixxi relazzjoni ta’ lealtà ġenwina lejn in-nazzjon tagħha. Ma tagħmilx differenza tkunx ċittadin imwieled fil-pajjiż jew tiksibx iċ-ċittadinanza, permezz tal-immigrazzjoni jew b’xi mezz ieħor iktar ’il quddiem matul ħajjitha.

Ħażrat Mirża Masroor Aħmad, il-Kalif u l-mexxej spiritwali tal-Komunità Aħmadija fl-Iżlam spejga l-kelma ‘lealtà’ u qal:

“Skont it-tagħlim tal-Iżlam, id-definizzjoni u t-tifsira vera ta’ lealtà hi t-twettiq bla kundizzjoni tal-wegħdiet u l-konvenzjonijiet f’kull livell u ċirkostanza, irrispettivament mid-diffikultà. Dan hu l-istandard vera ta’ lealtà mitlub mill-Iżlam. F’diversi postijiet fil-Koran Imqaddes Alla ta struzzjonijiet ċari lill-Musulmani biex dawn iħarsu l-wegħdiet u l-pattijiet tagħhom, għax għad jintalbu jagħtu rendikont Lilu ta’ kull attività mwettqa minnhom. Il-Musulmani ntalbu jwettqu l-pattijiet kollha, inkluż dawk bejnhom u bejn Alla s-Setgħani, kif ukoll il-pattijiet kollha li għamlu, skont il-grad ta’ importanza.”

Fl-Iżlam, l-ubbidjenza lejn il-liġi tal-pajjiż hi dmir reliġjuż. Il-Koran Imqaddes jikkmanda lill-Musulmani li jibqgħu fidili mhux biss lejn Alla u l-Qaddis Profeta Muħammad (il-paċi tkun miegħu), iżda wkoll lejn l-awtorità li taħtha jgħixu. Hekk jgħid:

“Intom ilkoll li temmnu! Obdu lil Alla, u obdu lill-Messaġġier Tiegħu u lil dawk li għandhom l-awtorità fuq-kom.” (Il-Koran, Kap.4 : Vers.60)

Ħażrat Mirża Masroor Aħmad, il-Kalif u l-mexxej spiritwali tal-Komunità Iżlamika Aħmadija spjega dan aktar fid-dettal meta qal li: “Musulman veru qatt ma jista’ jgħolli leħnu b’mibegħda lejn iċ-ċittadini sħabu, għalhekk lanqas lejn l-awtorità jew gvern ta’ dak iż-żmien. Hi r-responsabbiltà ta’ kull Musulman veru li jibqa’ leali u jobdi kompletament il-liġijiet tal-pajjiż li hu sudditu tiegħu.”

Il-Fundatur tal-Komunità Aħmadija Musulmana enfasizza ħafna dan l-aspett, u għallem lill-membri tal-komunità tiegħu biex juru lealtà u ubidjenza vera u sinċiera minn qiegħ ta’ qlubhom lejn pajjiżhom. Hu ħeġġiġhom biex dejjem jitolbu l-ħniena u l-barka ta’ Alla fuq pajjiżhom.

Malta huwa pajjiż sabiħ u mimli bil-grazzja ta’ Alla. Nitlob li dan il-pajjiż dejjem jimxi ’l quddiem u jsir pajjiż ideali fid-dinja. Jalla Alla jbierek lilna; u jalla Alla jbierek ’il-Malta. Amen

Evolution not revolution!

God’s creation is wonderful indeed. The solar system, of which our earth is but a small part, is vast, varied and orderly and, yet, this system is but one of hundreds of millions, some of which are incalculably larger than it. The countless millions of stars, moon and sun are so arranged and distributed in relation to one another as to produce harmony and beauty everywhere.

In the Holy Quran, God says the following: “Allah created the heavens and the earth in accordance with the requirements of wisdom. In that surely is a sign for the believers” (29:45).

The expression “in accordance with the requirements of wisdom” signifies that there is clear evidence of an intelligent design and purpose in the creation of the heavens and the earth and that a profound and consummate plan exists in all the celestial and terrestrial bodies.

When one ponders on verses in the Holy Quran, one finds that there are very important lessons to learn from the creation of universe. Among others, there is a principle that, to bring perfection to a system, a lot of planning and design is required. Secondly, to get the best positive results there must be harmony and complete tolerance in diversity. Then, to have such a perfect and practicable system there is need of evolution as it had been in the creation of the universe, created by God in six stages and periods.

I believe that evolution is the perfect system to a better and successful change and the system that takes its time will definitely give its fruits. For that to happen, profound education, necessary awareness, long planning, sincerity, faithfulness and a detailed road map are essential.

Otherwise, there cannot be any hope for a secure and prosperous future of a nation or country. And hollow claims of revolution without any road map cannot be fruitful.

During revolutions, when rule of law becomes fragile and fluid, many ill-natured extremists, fundamentalists, terrorists and non-democratic powers benefit from the prevailing circumstances and start their vicious and anti-democratic tactics to gain power, impose their point of view on the rest of the nation or ruin the peace.

In such times, we also find that religious extremists try to impose their ideology or their school of thought on the entire population.

It is also a reality that, in some cases, the oppressed think it is now their term to acquire personal benefits and take advantage of the situation and try to mould the scenario in their favour as much as they can. They, thus, completely ignore and forget the pledges and mantras of a change for the better for everybody.

At times, when striving for power, dominance and personal gains, the basic principles of a stable and prosperous society, such as human dignity, equality, forgiveness, fairness, justice, tolerance and democratic values, are partly or completely ignored.

The situation in many countries around the world and especially in the Middle-East, where we saw some revolutions taking place in recent years, prove abundantly clear that no lesson was learned from the creation of the universe.

The situation in Libya is very critical and complicated. In recent weeks, many people have been killed and people are fighting in the streets. It looks like the country is on the brink of disaster and I am afraid such circumstances may lead to civil war.

The situation in Egypt is still not very stable. Two governments were changed in as many years.

Tunisia is also struggling to find its feet.

Syria is still at war after more than three years.

In these conflicts, thousands of innocent people have been killed and there seems to be no end to this bloodshed and massacre.

Recently, a religious scholar who heads a political party in Pakistan and also holds a Canadian passport, Tahir-ul-Qadri, is calling for revolution in Pakistan.

I fail to understand what he means by this and what sort of revolution he wants to bring in the country. Does he have a road map? What are the solutions?

In a two-hour-long speech, he interpreted the Islamic teachings in his favour and urged his followers to struggle to topple the government, take the law into their own hands and attack the security forces and the police if they intervene. If anyone fails to bring about the revolution he is after, they must kill him, he insisted.

His speech was entirely a distortion of facts and misinterpretation of Islamic teachings and he did not address the entire situation with honesty. He omitted the very important fact that Islam categorically condemns taking the law into one’s hands, creating disorder and disobeying the authorities. Holy Quran clearly says that ‘’persecution or disorder is worse than killing’’ (2:192).

This is a grave dishonesty and an injustice.

As far as his revolution is concerned, there is no doable plan. Indeed, the meaning of revolution needs to be understood. A revolution means that an existing system will no longer be acceptable even if certain adjustments were made, that it will have to be totally thrown out and destroyed and a new order created to take its place.

History shows that all changes that have taken place in the world and all successful movements have followed this course.

There must be a clear and workable plan and road map. Mere slogans of revolution cannot bring any positive change. FIND ORIGINAL POST:

Lack of education fuels sense of Islamophobia

Barbaric acts of terrorism such as James Foley’s beheading coupled with a lack of education on the true meaning of Islam are fuelling a sense of Islamophobia, according to a number of Muslims living in Malta.

However, most Muslims living in Malta admitted they have not personally experienced any pejorative remarks or attitudes from Maltese people.

Imam Mohammed Elsadi, the Muslim spiritual leader in Malta, said an element of Islamophobia could be detected in the comments posted below online articles, mostly penned by uneducated people.

However, he had not received any reports in the past few weeks from Muslims complaining of being on the receiving end of negative behaviour from Maltese people. The Maltese, he said, were a tolerant and peaceful people.

“Islam shouldn’t be judged through the negative practices of terrorists but according to the teachings of the Holy Koran and the tradition of the prophet Mohammad.”

Islamic State (Isis) extremists, he added, were causing extreme harm to the reputation of Islam and Muslims. Muslims wholly condemned such barbaric acts and did not consider groups such as Isis to be Muslim. 

His comments are echoed by Ahmed Ashraf, the president of the Arab-Maltese community, who has been living in Malta for the past 23 years.

“I get along really well with the Maltese and I feel very much part of the community – I’ve never had any derogatory comments directed at me.

“But in cafeterias, you do hear such remarks from people talking among themselves.”

Ultimately, you sow what you reap so if left untreated, the seed of hatred will fester, he explained.

“We need more outreach programmes – we need to visit schools and make the community understand that we heartily condemn such fundamentalist groups. Islam is about love, respect and forgiveness.”

There is also a very small group of Arabs in Malta who do not like their children mixing with Christians, he added.

“It’s only a handful but we want to target them. Or else the child will grow up solely surrounded by Arabs.”

Laiq Ahmed Atif, president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, called on all non-Muslims to judge Islam only after studying its teachings in depth and after observing the character of Muslims who adhere to its original teachings.

There was no doubt, he continued, that the acts of terrorism or extremism perpetrated by “some so-called Muslims” had nothing whatsoever to do with the true teachings of Islam.

The very meaning of Islam was peace, security and giving a guarantee of protection against all forms of harm and evil.

To attribute any such killing such as that of US journalist James Foley to religion and, particularly, to Islam was “absolutely mistaken”, he added.

“It is true that this unlawful killing was committed in a Muslim country – however, religion is not behind this death. Islam has nothing to do with the killing of an innocent person and this must be understood very carefully.

“I think that any such act should not fuel perceptions of hatred towards an entire Muslim community because the majority of Muslims are against those acts. Peaceful Muslims are also suffering through such atrocities.

“The majority of Muslims are not culprits but are victims of terrorism and extremism perpetrated by some so-called Muslims. I think our non-Muslim friends should also keep this point in their mind and that will lead to tolerance and harmony towards the majority of Muslims.”

A resident in Malta for the past seven years, Mr Atif believes that the Maltese people are tolerant and well-educated.

Donation to Dar Vincenzo Bugeja

Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta president Laiq Ahmed Atif visited Dar Kav. Vincenzo Bugeja in Ħamrun, a home for the intellectually disabled, and distributed fruit hampers.

During the visit it was noticed there weren’t enough fans at the centre and Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta made up for the shortfall.

Volunteer and coordinator Kenneth Cremona accompanied Atif as he toured the home and met with youngsters.

Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta gives a lot of importance to looking after people in need on the island. The community believes serving mankind is a way to win the pleasure of God.   Find Original Post:

The world today presents a horrific scenario of crime, violence, killing and a determined attempt to destroy the very pillars of social order that sustain peace, tolerance, harmony and human dignity. The lives of millions of people around the world have been ruined and such individuals are experiencing unbearable suffering and witnessing ruthless devastation.

Violence against women is also increasing dramatically. Women are being subjected to different kinds of violence. Domestic violence, acid throwing, female genital mutilation, rape, sexual exploitation and honour killings are among the most pervasive forms of violence against women.

Recently, two very unfortunate incidents took place, one in India, where two teenage girls were raped and then hanged, and the other in Lahore, Pakistan, where Farzana Iqbal, who was three months pregnant, was stoned to death by family members and relatives in a broad daylight in front of the Lahore High Court in the presence of policemen and civilians. This incident thrust the issue of so-called honour killing into the spotlight. What is an ‘honour killing’?

It is the concept of the killing of a family member, usually a female, who is perceived to have brought dishonour and insult upon relatives and family. The reasons give frequently are that the girl/woman did not toe the family line and married someone she herself chose. In such cases, family members allege she is involved in extra-marital relations and, refusing to respect the decision of the family, it amounted to a dishonour for the family and, thus, the family had a right to kill her on such charges.

I think all the motives mentioned to justify honour killings are completely baseless. Honour killing is a contradiction in terms; there is no honour in the unlawful killing of an innocent person.

The United Nations Population Fund estimates that 5,000 women globally are murdered this way every year. Last year, 869 women were said to have been killed in Pakistan alone.

These unfortunate incidents are reported and highlighted in the media but to attribute these honour killings to religion is absolutely mistaken. It is true that many unlawful deaths, such as honour killings, are perpetrated in some Muslim countries. However, religion is not behind such deaths, which are the result of tribal or sometimes historic legacy issues, culture or customs and false sense of pride.

Islam has nothing to do with honour killings. This must be understood very carefully.

The guidelines for Muslims lies in the Holy Qur’an and the example of Prophet Muhammad and not the actions of some individual Muslim or country.

What does Islam say matter about honour killing? It says that “whosoever killed a person, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind (5:33)”.

As far as the issue of marrying someone of one’s own choice goes, Islam gives this right to both men and women. According to Islamic law, the bride’s approval and consent for marriage is compulsory; parents or guardians have no authority to force a girl to marry anyone.

Let me quote a tradition of Prophet Muhammad: “It is narrated that a virgin girl came to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) and said that her father had married her with someone but she did not like him. The Holy Prophet Muhammad gave her the option to maintain that marriage or reject it.”

Although, in Islam, boys and girls are not allowed to have private meetings before marriage, they do have the right to see each other and meet in the presence of their parents or elders before getting married. It is narrated that a companion of Prophet Muhammad sent a message of marriage to a lady and the prophet told him: “See her, as seeing will increase the chance of affection and attachment between the two of you.”

The concept of arranged marriages is misunderstood and people think that whatever match is suggested by the parents for the children, especially for the daughters, the children must accept blindly.

Unfortunately, sometimes it happens. But it is entirely wrong. Arranged marriages mean that the parents assist their children in finding a suitable match but it is up to the children whether to accept the suggested match or not.

The above references are clear evidence that Islam gives the right to both men and women to marry someone they freely choose. Also, so-called honour killing is categorically condemned by Islam and those who commit such atrocities must be brought to justice and punished according to the law. Because human life is precious and “there is no honour in killing, whatsoever”.

True Khilafat has no Interest in Power or Government

“True Khilafat is Spiritual Leadership and Has No Interest in Power or Government” (Head of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community)

On Saturday 13 June 2014, the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Fifth Khalifa, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad emphasised the true nature of Khilafat (Caliphate) during an address in front of around 1,000 non-Ahmadi guests at the second day of the 39th Annual Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Germany. His Holiness also used his address to categorically disprove claims that Islam advocates extremism or violence at any level.

Speaking about the institution of Khilafat, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“Today the Institution of Khilafat – that is the institution of spiritual succession that leads the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community – is keeping Islam’s true teachings alive.”

“The Khilafat of the Ahmadiyya Community can never depart from Islam’s core teachings of fulfilling the rights owed to God and to mankind. Today, the institution of Khilafat is striving for peace in every possible way and to spread love and affection throughout the world.”

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“Let me make it clear that the institution of Khilafat leading the Ahmadiyya Community has no interest in power or government. Rest assured that true Khilafat has no worldly or political objectives. The sole concern of the Ahmadiyya Khilafat is that the people of the world come to recognise their Creator and bow down before the One God.”

His Holiness also spoke of the connection between Ahmadi Muslims and their Khalifa. He said it was due to this unique relationship that Ahmadi Muslims were united and intent upon spreading Islam’s message of peace across the world. Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“You are seeing for yourselves that in these halls there are thousands of men and women who are completely attached to Khilafat and through this unbreakable spiritual bond they are perfectly united. They speak only of how to spread love and affection and how to fulfill the rights of humanity.”

His Holiness said Islam was a religion of peace and compassion and that Ahmadi Muslims followed these true values. He said the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian had repeatedly urged is followers to show sympathy towards mankind. Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad quoted an extract from the writings of the Promised Messiah where he said:

“There are only two complete parts of faith. One is to love God and the other is to love mankind to such a degree that you consider the suffering and the trials and tribulations of others as your own and that you pray for them.”

Speaking of Islam’s teachings in relation to equality, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“Islam teaches Muslims to free every person and every nation from all forms of slavery and servitude – whether physical, economic or social slavery. Islam teaches us that all people are equal and that one’s race and colour are not means of superiority or status.”

His Holiness concluded by appealing for unity and the promotion of common values, and said:

“Instead of pointing fingers at one another and instead of hurting the feelings of each other, we should instead join together as one and work towards the progress of the nation and towards establishing peace in the world.”

World Muslim Leader explains true Concept of Khilafat

Mirza Masroor Ahmad Khalifatul-Masih VOn 6 June 2014, the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Fifth Khalifa, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad delivered his weekly Friday Sermon in Frankfurt.

During his hour-long address, His Holiness addressed the differences between the Institution of Khilafat (Caliphate) and secular or other forms of leadership.

His Holiness categorically rejected the accusation that Khilafat could be considered similar to a dictatorship. He said that whilst worldly interests and a desire for power consumed dictators, the Khalifa of the Time had entirely spiritual objectives.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“Whilst worldly leaders have secular goals, the purpose of Khilafat is to draw the attention of all people towards fulfilling each other’s rights. It is to instil a spirit amongst Ahmadi Muslims of giving precedence to their faith over all worldly matters and Khilafat makes every effort to peacefully establish the Unity of God in the world.”

Continuing, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“Let me make it clear to every Ahmadi Muslim, every youth and every person that Khilafat and dictatorship have no link whatsoever… There is no compulsion in religion and so when a person willingly and entirely of his own volition accepts Ahmadiyyat then for the sake of the religion it is necessary to fulfil that pledge.”

Speaking of the unique relationship between the Khalifa and Ahmadi Muslims, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“Which leader or dictator is there who keeps a personal connection with each of his citizens? On the other hand the Khalifa of the Time maintains a personal connection with Ahmadi Muslims from amongst every race and from all parts of the world. It is Khilafat alone that cares for and feels the pain of every Ahmadi Muslim and prays for them.”

Speaking of his own love and connection with the members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community across the world, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said: 

“Before sleeping at night there is no country of the world that I do not visit in my imagination and no Ahmadi for whom I do not pray whilst sleeping and whilst awake. I am not doing any favour because this is my duty and may Allah enable me to ever increase in assuming my responsibilities. The only reason I have said this is to make it clear that there can be no comparison between Khilafat and other worldly or secular leaders.”

Islam abhors kidnapping / Laiq Ahmed Atif

“The Gracious God will have mercy on those who are merciful. Have mercy on those who are on earth, Allah in heavens will have mercy on you.”

“He is not of us who does not have mercy on young children and does not recognise honour of the elderly.”

“All creatures are Allah’s family; and Allah loves most among His creation those who treat his family well and look after their needs.”

These are statements by the holy founder of Islam, Prophet Muhammad. If one ponders over these statements and reads the news, which has spread all over the world and has since become the talk of the town, about the kidnapping of more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls, it becomes clear that such actions are cruel, brutal and barbaric and are condemned by Islam.

What is Boko Haram?

Boko Haram is an extremist organisation in Nigeria, which means “western education is forbidden”. The members of this organisation call themselves Muslims and they want to impose their so-called Islamic philosophy and ideology on the rest of the population. But they are nothing more than a vile band of killers, kidnappers, suicide bombers, murderers and extremists. 

Since the organisation came into existence it maimed a large number of mothers, fathers and children through their vicious acts of extremism. Now they have caused complete agony to the parents of more than 200 innocent girls who haven’t even properly embarked on the journey of their lives.

The actions of Boko Haram have nothing to do with Islam; their actions can be condemned and unreservedly rejected on many basis.

Islam discards the idea of forming a kind of state within a state, taking the law into one’s own hands and disallows spreading disorder in the land. It says that “disorder and persecution are worse than killing”. Allah repeatedly instructs in the Holy Quran: “Create not disorder on the earth.” “Commit not iniquity in the earth, creating disorder.” “Allah loves not disorder.” “Allah loves not those who create disorder.”

With reference to abiding by the law of the land, the Holy Quran says: “O ye who believe, obey Allah and obey His Messenger and those who are in authority among you” (4:60). The words “those in authority”, in their wider significance, include even such non-Muslims as may happen to be in authority over Muslims. The practice of the Prophet Muhammad and his sayings make it abundantly clear that, in secular matters, Muslims should also obey their rulers who may not be Muslims.

“I abducted your girls. I will sell them in the market, by Allah,” a man claiming to be Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau said in a video. This stand of Boko Haram against women/girls also does not comply with Islamic teachings and Islam discards any such action of kidnapping women/girls against their will and stopping them from having their education.

The Holy Quran firmly declares that detaining or enslaving women against their will is completely forbidden (4:20).

It also categorically rejects the idea of holding captive prisoners of war unless there is ongoing and regular fighting in the land (8:68).

In the Holy Quran, God instructs us to pray for the knowledge: “O my Lord, increase me in knowledge” (20:115). These words show the great importance the Quran attaches to the acquirement of knowledge. Elsewhere in the Quran, knowledge has been styled as “God’s great grace” (2:270).

Prophet Muhammad said that: “It is the duty of every Muslim man and every Muslim woman to acquire knowledge.” He also exhorted both to “seek knowledge though it may be found in a country as far away as China” and to “seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave”. It was an oft-repeated saying of his that if a man had daughters and he arranged to have them educated and took pains with their upbringing, God would save him from the torment of hell.

Prophet Muhammad said that “Allah is gentle and He loves gentleness and He rewards for gentleness what He does not recompense for harshness; and He does not reward any other virtue like He rewards gentleness”.

My sincerest appeal to Boko Haram is to release all the abducted schoolgirls and stop all acts against humanity. And since they have said they are doing all that in the name of Islam, I quote what Prophet Muhammad had said, that “Muslim is one from whose hand and tongue all others are safe and are in peace”.

My appeal to them is to become the one from whom compassion and love flourishes and not the one who is enemy of mankind.

I shall conclude with a quote by the founder of the Ahmadiyya Community, who very rightly says:

“I admonish you to refrain from evil and be truly compassionate towards mankind. Cleanse your hearts of malice and spite for you will become like angels through this habit. It is a filthy and unholy religion that is devoid of sympathy for humanity and polluted is the path riddled with rancour based on selfish desires.

“Be compassionate towards all for the sake of God, so that you may be shown mercy in the heavens. Come and I will teach you a way that will cause your light to prevail over all other lights. Abandon all lowly spites and jealousies. Be compassionate for mankind and lose yourself in God.” FIND ORIGINAL ARTICLE

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta organised annual “Peace Symposium” on 28th February, at the Grand Hotel Excelsior, Floriana. In this gathering Hon. Justyne Caruana MP, Hon. Mario De Marco MP, Mons Mario Grech and Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad Ayaz, delivered their talks about the theme “Contemporary World Crisis and the Way to Peace.” 

All the distinguished speakers spoke about the current critical situation of world peace and highlighted the need of establishing justice, equality, and education and emphasized on the need of mutual respect and dialogue between all the countries, people and religions. The distinguished panel agreed to the point that dialogue and negotiations are the best solutions in solving national and international conflicts. 

Hon. Justyne Caruana - MPHonourable Dr Justyne Caruana said that for the establishment of peace there is a critical need to eradicate poverty and to provide food and clean water to all the people. She also emphasized on promotion of tolerance and mutual respect. 

Hon. Mario De Marco - MPHonourable Dr. Mario De Marco said that ‘I welcomed with open arms the invitation to address this gathering. We can never talk enough about peace. But, no word uttered in the pursuit of peaceful solution is a wasted word.’ 

Mons. Mario Grech - Bishop of GozoMons. Mario Grech congratulated the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community for organising such a wonderful event on an important subject and said that Jesus said that “Blessed are the peacemakers.” 

Dr Iftikhar Ahmad Ayaz OBEDr. Iftikhar Ahmad Ayaz said that: “To establish true peace, we must also understand the spirit of true justice.  How can we establish true justice and what is its spirit?”

In the Holy Quran God Almighty says:

“O Ye who believe! Be steadfast in the cause of Allah, bearing witness in equity; and let not a people’s enmity incite you to act otherwise than with justice.  Be always just, that is nearer to righteousness.  And fear Allah.  Surely, Allah is aware of what you do.”  (Ch 5: V9) 

Laiq Ahmed Atif, president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Malta, welcomed the guests to the conference and said that ‘the Peace Symposium is an annual event which brings together well-known and esteemed scholars from the world’s major religions, politicians and dignitaries to speak on a common topic from the point of view of their respective religious traditions and political affiliations. 

For last many years, the peace symposium has served as an invaluable forum for different religious communities and political parties to gather in the spirit of tolerance, peace, cooperation, respect and understanding. 

It serves the noble cause of education regarding interesting and relevant topics by providing a platform where major religions and political parties can pool their collective wisdom, teachings and ideas.

Zero tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation

MaraWomen make up almost 50 per cent of world population. They are inferior to no one and should be treated decently and in a dignified manner in every sphere of life.

The English term ‘ladies first’ is very commonly used around the world but reality and experience prove otherwise.

Rampant violence on and the maltreatment of women is not something uncommon and new forms of violence are being reported too. Although, with the passage of time things are getting better there is still a long way to go to assure women of all the rights, respect and dignity they are due, not just in words but in practice.

One severe kind of violence against women is female circumcision, or female genital mutilation (FGM). This is culturally practised in some parts of Africa, Asia and South America even if FGM is widely condemned.

FGM comprises procedures that involve partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons. Some medical doctors and gynaecologists insist that there is absolutely no scientific evidence whatsoever supporting any medical benefit of this procedure.

On the contrary, this practice badly affects the health and psyche of a woman. Because it is a very painful and horrific experience, it continues to haunt a woman throughout her life.

The practice causes a lot of health problems for women and induces a lot of pain during intercourse as well as complications during childbirth. The procedure can also cause severe bleeding and problems urinating and can later also lead to cysts, infections and infertility.

I feel there is need of education and awareness that FGM is a very harmful practice and those who force women to undergo it, for any reason whatsoever, must be brought to justice. Also, in many parts of the world there needs to be specific legislation to prevent such cases from occurring.

In Malta, a lot of work has been done in this regard. A Private Member’s Bill to make FGM and forced marriages a criminal offence was presented in the House and was approved unanimously.

Although the International Zero Tolerance Day to FGM is celebrated on February 6, many remain unaware that this practice has affected millions of women. According to an estimate, about 140 million girls and women worldwide are living with the consequences of FGM and about three million girls undergo the procedure around the globe each year.

The procedure is carried out for various reasons but in many areas this is done to improve a girl’s marriage prospects and also to ensure that a woman remains chaste and guard her against promiscuity. Another reason is to weaken a woman’s sexual desires. In certain areas it is related to faith with those undergoing such a procedure being described as ‘clean and good girls’.

In my opinion it is more of a cultural practice than a religious duty. Unfortunately, this is also practised in some Muslim populated areas and some say that Islam encourages female circumcision. However, there is no basis of FGM in Islamic law – whether in the Holy Quran or in five of the six authentic books of Hadith (tradition) of the Prophet – supporting this harmful practice.

Nowhere does the Holy Quran say that girls must undergo this procedure. Indeed, once it is medically proven that it is an unnecessary and harmful practice, how can one expect a divine religion to demand a procedure that causes pain and misery to women?

Female circumcision is only mentioned in one authentic book of Hadith and most of the scholars of jurisprudence base their argument on these few references. But when one enters into these references academically many questions arise, mainly: if it this procedure were so important then why was it not commanded by God or practised by the Prophet?

There is need of education and awareness that female genital mutilation is a very harmful practice

Also, female circumcision was not generally practised in Arabia at all. When we study this in further depth, we discover that this was practised in ancient times in Egypt, from where it spread to the rest of the African continent. Normally, only slaves used to be subjected to female circumcision.

The practice eventually found its way into Arabia but it never became common.

Prophet Muhammad insisted that women should always be treated with kindness and consideration. He often used to say that if a man had daughters and he arranged to have them educated and took pains with their upbringing, God would save him from the torment of Hell.

The Prophet always taught that women should not be beaten or made to suffer any pain, whether physical or otherwise.

He said that “the best of you are those who behave best towards their wives”.

In his last sermon, he again highlighted the kind of treatment women should e given and declared: “Remember, you must always treat your wives well.”

I think the practice of FGM should never be encouraged, rather laws should be enacted for its prevention and, thus, save women from passing through a trauma and face misery. Continue Reading:

Dan huwa mportanti ħafna biex nibqgħu konxji tal-effetti ħżiena tad-dinja teknoloġika waqt li dejjem nistinkaw biex inżommu l-valuri tradizzjonali u l-prinċipji sodi tagħna ħajjin u friski, anke meta llum huma mhedda kontinwament mid-dinamiċi soċjali.  

Naħseb li hemm tliet fatturi bażiċi u vitali fl-użu tal-internet: l-immaniġġjar tajjeb tal-ħin, it-trażżin fl-imġiba u l-użu tal-internet b’mod sikur u intelliġenti.

Il-ħin huwa mportanti ħafna, għalhekk għandna nkunu konxji biżżejjed dwar dan meta nużaw l-internet, u dan isir iktar prezzjuż għall-istudenti li m’għandhomx jaħlu ħinhom fix-xejn meta jistgħu jiffokaw aktar fuq l-edukazzjoni li taffettwa l-futur tagħhom. Meta ċ-ċetting, il-logħob u l-cartoons isiru parti mir-rutina ta’ wliedna, hemmhekk inkunu missejna problema serjissima li għandha tkun indirizzata minnufih. L-użu tal-internet għandu jkun ħin ta’ divertiment kontrollat u mhux vizzju inkontrollabbli.

It-tieni nett, irridu nrażżnu ċerta mġiba u ma nesponux ħwejjeġ personali u kunfidenzjali, għax b’hekk inkunu qegħdin nagħmlu ħafna ħsara lil min ikun ġie espost u lilna nfusna. Huwa mportanti, per eżempju, li wieħed ma jtellax ritratti jew informazzjoni personali mingħajr ħtieġa fuq l-internet, għax dejjem hemm il-possibbiltà ta’ ħsara b’xi mod jew ieħor fil-futur għax kif ngħidu, min jobżoq fis-sema, jiġi f’wiċċu.

Meta xi ħadd jidħol fuq l-internet jirrealizza li hemm numru kbir ta’ affarijiet li huma ħżiena, speċjalment f’xi vidjows fuq youtube jew midja soċjali oħra, jew meta jitligħu pop-ups minn kull naħa tal-iskrin li jiġbdu l-attenzjoni. Jekk qatt xi darba taqa’ għat-tentazzjoni u tidħol f’xi sit minnhom taf tispiċċa ’l bogħod minn dak li għalih kont qed tuża l-internet.
Dan ifakkarni f’vers mill-Koran Imqaddes fejn ix-Xitan jgħid lil Alla li:

Qal (ix-Xitan): “Issa, meta Int iddikjarajtni mħawwad u mitluf mit-triq is-sewwa, jiena tassew se noqogħdilhom fit-triq is-sewwa Tiegħek. Imbagħad żgur niġihom minn quddiemhom u minn warajhom, minn fuq il-lemin tagħhom u minn fuq ix-xellug tagħhom. U m’Intix se ssib lil ħafna minnhom grati u jiżżuk ħajr.” (Il-Koran 7:17-18)

Dan il-vers juri biċ-ċar li hemm ħafna affarijiet ħżiena madwarna u anke fuq l-internet, imma għandna niffokaw fuq it-tajjeb biex ix-xitan ma jagħmilx ħsara lil ruħna.

Xi suġġerimenti għall-ġenituri

Bħalma nafu li l-internet u l-midja soċjali għandhom ħafna vantaġġi għalina, fl-istess ħin għandna nkunu nafu wkoll li sfortunatament hemm ukoll żvantaġġi kbar li l-ġenituri għandhom ikunu konxji tagħhom meta wliedhom jużaw l-internet. Huwa għalhekk importanti li anke l-ġenituri jkunu jafu jużaw il-kompjuter huma wkoll.

L-ewwel u qabel kollox, naħseb li huwa mportanti tassew li l-ġenituri u l-għalliema jitkellmu mat-tfal u jagħtuhom l-għarfien u l-edukazzjoni meħtieġa għall-użu tal-internet. Dan m’għandux ikun ta’ darba biss, iżda għandu jkun minn żmien għal żmien.

It-tieni, il-kompjuter għandu jitqiegħed f’post aċċessibbli fid-dar u t-tfal ma jitħallewx jużaw il-kompjuter imsakkra f’kamrithom jew f’xi studju ’l bogħod mill-ġenituri jew membri adulti tal-familja. Jekk il-ġenituri jieħdu nota ta’ dal-punt importanti, naħseb li iktar minn 80% tal-użu ħażin tal-kompjuter jista’ jiġi elimminat, u dan ifisser li t-tfal tagħna jkunu protetti mill-ħażen li joffri l-internet.

It-tielet, il-ġenituri għandhom ikunu konxji ta’ x’qed jaraw uliedhom fuq l-internet. Jekk possibbli, il-passwords ma jkunux sigrieta imma magħrufa minnhom biex jidħlu fl-accounts diversi tagħhom u jaraw x’attivitajiet ikunu involuti fihom, u jikkontrollawhom qabel ikun tard wisq għax aħjar uff milli aħħ (prevention is better than cure).

Ir-raba’, il-ġenituri għandhom ifissru biċ-ċar lil uliedhom dwar il-perikli li jistgħu jaffaċċjaw jekk jikxfu ħajjithom b’dak kollu li hu sensittiv u emozzjonali fuq l-internet. Għax kemm-il darba informazzjoni simili ssib ruħha fuq l-internet, dan ifisser li ma tistax treġġagħha lura. Għalhekk, għandek tirrispetta l-privatezza tiegħek u tal-oħrajn b’responsabbiltà.

Fil-qosor, l-internet huwa bżonn tal-lum, imma l-użu ħażin tiegħu jista’ jkun devastanti. Għalhekk, kulħadd għandu jkun konxju ħafna u jieħu kull pass b’għaqal u maturità meta juża l-internet biex jibbenefika minn din l-invenzjoni moderna mill-aqwa. FIND ORGINIONAL POST IN TORCA:

Donation of books to Mellieha Local Council

Respected Mayor and Councilor Mr. Joseph Attard received the members of Ahmadiyya Community and had a meeting at the council’s offices in Mellieha. Respected Mayor Mr. Buttiegieg thanked the community for this donation.

Due to the ever-new modes of transportation and means of communication available today, the world is now known as a global village. In this global village human immigration is becoming an increasing phenomenon worldwide. In almost every part of the globe we find people of different backgrounds, languages, colours, creeds, nationalities and different religious beliefs living together. This diversity, on one side makes our world colourful, charming, attractive and very lively, however, on the other hand the world is facing some challenges for the peaceful and harmonious coexistence of diverse human society.

Many countries have shown their concerns about the increasing immigration and in particular immigration of Muslims into the Western societies. Questions are being raised that is it possible for Muslims to remain loyal to their faith and with their adopted countries? Can Muslims become part of the Western societies?

Once immigrants have settled in a new country, what should be expected of them in terms of their degree of integration with their hosts? This is an issue becoming very debatable and there is a crucial need to bring out the realistic solutions for the better and progressive integration of immigrants.

I understand the concerns of the Western countries, and it is true that under the influence of certain ignorant and extremist clerics, some Muslim individuals or groups have a very prejudicial and irrational attitude towards Western nations and non-Muslims. The truth is that this irrational attitude of theirs has nothing to do whatsoever with the true teachings of Islam and practices of the Holy Prophet Muhammad. Islam has presented such luminous and realistic principles that their implementation can create integration between diverse groups in the real sense.

Before I come to the point of integration of Muslims, it is appropriate to point out two main opposite opinions as far as integration is concerned. There are some who want immigrants to become a complete part of their new culture, even if this means abandoning their customs, language and traditions. The Fourth Caliph of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community very rightly describes the shortcomings of this opinion, highlights the beauty of diversity, he says:

“This would be an attempt on par with turning a bouquet of varied flowers, as if by some wizardry, into just one particular flower. We understand from various societies and social systems and the societal evolution that each newcomer brings with them distinct colours and fragrances. This happens in all countries and happens from all sides. To erase the distinctiveness of the outsider and declare the sole existence of just one ‘flower’ in the bouquet, be it a rose or jasmine or some other flower, but not to allow mutual existence in the bouquet is not the correct way to create compromise and uniformity. This mode of action is contrary to the natural societal evolution and nations cannot gain from it in any way.”

However, the opposite scenario is also unrealistic and impracticable. When immigrants refuse to assimilate into the host culture and cling on to native languages and traditions, they effectively create a sub culture apart from the one in which they live. This in turn creates difficulties for them and leads to isolation. 

For a progressive, prosperous and tolerant society, a very realistic and practicable approach is highly essential. As far as integration of Muslims into the Western societies is concerned, it is also a two-way process and both the immigrants and the locals have to play their positive and responsible roles. 

Both parties should try to live by the principle of give-and-take and show flexibility and benevolence for each other. Everyone should try his utmost to always put responsibilities and obligations before his rights, and should become the one who gives, and not who always takes. As the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be on him, advised that “the upper hand (of the donor) is better than the lower hand (of the receiver).” 

I believe that respect towards the law of the land, faithfulness and loyalty with the adopted country is a cornerstone of effective integration. The Holy Prophet Muhammad particularly emphasised that love for one’s nation is a part of faith for any true Muslim. When loving your country is a basic element of Islam, how can any true Muslim exhibit disloyalty or betray his nation and thereby forgo his faith? In terms of Ahmadi Muslims, at our major events all members of the Community, make a pledge and promise to give up their lives, wealth, time and honour not just for their religion but also for the sake of their nations and countries. To be integrated it is necessary to believe the country you live in is your own and you must desire for it to succeed. This is true integration.

Freedom of expression, freedom of faith, equality, justice, human dignity and equitable opportunities also play a vital role in the establishment of tranquil and serene atmosphere.

Mutual cooperation for the common good, sharing and adopting all positive aspects of each other, and joining hands against every evil will also lead to a positive coexistence. Knowledge of each other’s cultures, customs, traditions and local language are also necessary to break the barriers of misunderstanding, fear and isolation. All the people should show mutual respect and tolerance, and care for the sentiments and feelings of others. Their talks and discussion should exhibit the true sense of community and words should be selected very wisely. The rights of poor and needy, the rights of neighbours, the rights of streets, the rights of the community should all be honoured. 

The current Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community explains that: “Muslims have been taught that in order to integrate with their local societies and develop mutual respect, they should seek to learn about all of the good aspects of every society, every region, every city and every country. It is not enough to simply learn about such values, but Muslims must endeavour to adopt them into their own personal lives. This is guidance that truly inculcates togetherness and a spirit of mutual trust and love.” 

Better integration also requires that immigrants must enter with a willingness to integrate with the local people, whilst the locals should be ready to open their hearts and display tolerance, open-mindedness and forbearance. They all should try to truly live by these two golden principles that “wish for others what you wish for yourself” and “love for all, hatred for none”, because these are the essence and golden principles for a harmonious and peaceful integration.

A look through the lens of peace

At the beginning of every year, many share greetings and wish one another a happy and prosperous new year. People make their plans and road maps for the coming year to make their lives better, full of happiness and prosperity. The year begins with messages of hope and great aspirations with great expectations of a better future. 

Some strive to experience a better spirituality and moderate life; some restrict their expectations to the acquisition of worldly benefits and achievements of one kind or another such as good health, financial security, matrimonial contentment, friendships, success in studies, improvement in business and profession, and acquisition of property, etc. 

The worldly achievements are also blessings and should be cherished too. There is, however, the experience of spiritual happiness and prosperity which far exceed that of worldly satisfaction. 

Having personal resolutions and setting some goals for future are well and good but I think we must make collective resolutions that will affect all of us, in one way or another. 

Recently, in a special reception in Nagoya, Japan, the head of the Ahmadiyya Community, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, conveyed a strong message of establishing peace, unity, reconciliation and solidarity with each other. He spoke clearly about the need of peace, unity and security and combating violence and extremism; avoiding every possibility of war and conflict. I believe this is a great collective resolution that needs the input of all of us. 

He said: “In my capacity as head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, I have been constantly warning the people and nations of the world that it is imperative that we spread love and affection in today’s world, rather than spreading hatred and igniting grievances among one another. The need of the time is for us to step forward with a spirit of reconciliation because if we do not become true ambassadors of peace, a great calamity could easily befall the world.” 

ONLY WITH LOVE CAN YOU WIN THE HEARTS OF PEOPLE 

I hope and pray that 2014 will be a year of peace, security, solidarity and unity. Moreover, that the human values of decency and brotherhood will prevail over every kind of jealousy, animosity, extremism and insecurity. So that, mankind can cherish the fruits of serenity and tranquillity across the globe. 

The world situation is not ideal and we see different kinds of conflicts erupting time after time. And it is very true that, as they say, as you sow, so shall you reap. Thus, it becomes more important than ever before for all of us to work hard in a positive direction and let us sow the seeds of hope and optimism, let us put aside all the differences and let us unite for the common good. We can make our world a better place for all of us by making the correct choice between love and hate and play our role as torch bearers of love, mercy and forgiveness. 

For, indeed, only with love can you win the hearts of people. Love and true sympathy are the very antidotes of terrorism and serve as an effective weapon and an instrument for the establishment of peace. Moses, Jesus Christ and Prophet Muhammad also won the hearts of their bitter enemies by forgiving them, those enemies who always persecuted them and their followers severely and insulted and humiliated them mercilessly. 

This magnanimous display of compassion and forgiveness on their part found a place in the hearts of their enemies. Let us all use the same weapon of compassion, forgiveness and love for our unity to eradicate hatred from the world and keep on marching in the path of progress. 

I would like to conclude with prayers and a great message from the spiritual head of our community. He says: “Rather than looking at each through a lens of hatred, we should all look at one another through a lens of love and peace… I pray that, instead of spreading malice and hatred, all people join together and make a collective effort to end all forms of evil so that our future generations can be saved from that indescribable destruction that would certainly arise if nuclear weapons were ever used again by any country.” amjmalta@gmail.com THE-TIMES:

Peace building and Mandela

Peace, tranquility and serenity are so valuable fruits of life that everyone wants to benefits to the utmost. Those people who have worked for peace throughout their lives are people of high values ​​and deserve that the world remembers and salutes their memory in the best way possible because they are the heroes of mankind; they loved humanity and had a pure and kind heart for everyone.

Nelson Mandela is one of those noble and precious personalities who have worked hard for peace and human dignity. Nelson Mandela is a clear example of determination, struggle and passion. He showed how a determined person with high and firm aims can do miracles and can change the critical situation of the world into a world of peace and common good. He is really a symbol of peace, unity, forgiveness, love, dignity and reconciliation.

There are thousands of people who commend the work of Nelson Mandela; and his memory will remain fresh and alive in the minds of thousands of people for years to come. Mandela, will undoubtedly be remembered as a beacon of peace and hope. I salute to Mandela. May you rest in peace forever.

Recently I read an article in FoxNews.com where the writer says in a critical tone that: “Where is the Muslim Mandela?” In this article the writer has mentioned many incidents of terrorism and violence around the world where some Muslims were convicted.

The writer also asks: “Where among the 1.56 billion Muslims is our Mandela? And says that: “Because we lack a Muslim Mandela to show us the way to peace and reconciliation, we Muslims must each look to ourselves for ways to defy the radical Islamist, to protect the vulnerable among us.”

In this article many issues have been mentioned, but I would like to answer her question and would like to bring to her attention that there is a Muslim Mandela – who works day and night to spread the message of peace and to show the way that leads to peace and serenity. Recently one of his books with a tile “World crisis and the pathway to peace” was published, in which he has discussed the means to peace and has presented numerous solutions, suggestions and basic principles that are important and crucial for the establishment of peace around the world as well as in the Muslim countries.

The Muslim Mandela is that who urges the world towards peace, sympathy, harmony, religious freedom and declares that “acceptance of faith is a matter between man and his God, and you should not interfere in this in any way. Everyone is permitted to live according to his faith and to perform his religious rituals.”

Perhaps this is why the U.S. House of Representatives introduced an unprecedented resolution recognizing the Muslim Mandela as “a man of peace.” And was presented with a golden key by the City Council of Los Angeles, declaring: “This Key is reserved for only the most honoured people on Earth.”

The Muslim Mandela responses to the world challenges through opening of many clinics and hospitals that offer medical assistance to those in need, and schools that offer free secular education for all children – both Muslims and non-Muslims, without any discrimination. He inaugurated a large number of social and humanitarian projects to help in the development of poor and underdeveloped countries and to offer assistance to victims of wars and natural disasters.

The Muslim Mandela has travelled globally to promote and facilitate service to humanity; and has addressed some very important meetings in Capitol Hill, Washington DC, in the European Parliament, the German Military Headquarters and in the British Parliament among others. Wherever he goes, he highlights the importance of absolute justice, human dignity, equality, human rights, and unreservedly condemns violence and terrorism in any form and for any reason, and says that: “Islam does not permit cruelty or oppression in any way, shape or form. These barbaric acts are completely against true teachings of Islam.”

Under his spiritual leadership millions of leaflets with the messages of peace, loyalty and service to mankind were distributed around the globe; many inter-faith conferences and peace symposiums where a number of distinguished guests from all walks of life gather and share their thoughts about the promotion of long-lasting peace and harmony.

Without any doubt, like President Mandela, the Muslim Mandela is also a great symbol of forgiveness, hard-work, sympathy, love, unity, solidarity, reconciliation, prayer and hope.

Come and meet with the Muslim Champion of Peace, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Khalifa of Islam and Spiritual Leader of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

This is a man that the Muslim world needs, because he speaks clearly and fearlessly and presents solutions to their crisis, problems and conflicts. He presents practical and sustainable solutions, according to the teachings of the Holy Quran, to the critical situation in Syria, in Afghanistan, in Pakistan, in Iraq and to other countries, which are heavily threatened by crises.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad warn the world and says that: “Nowadays, when the world again is getting divided into blocs; extremism is escalating; and the financial and economic situation is worsening, there is an urgent need to end all kinds of hatred and to lay the foundations of peace… Time is running out, and before it is too late we must all pay great heed and attention to the needs of the time… Therefore, to improve the situation and for peace to develop, requires all parties to work together.”

“We feel extreme pain and anguish in our hearts at the state of the world. It is that pain which drives us in our efforts to try and save humanity from destruction and suffering. Therefore, I and all other Ahmadi Muslims are striving to fulfill our responsibilities towards achieving peace in the world.”

His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad continues:

“God Willing, the Ahmadiyya Khilafat will always be known as the standard-bearer of peace and harmony in the world, as well as be loyal to the country in which members reside.”

Mandela Musulman huwa dak li jħeġġeġ lid-dinja lejn il-paċi, l-imħabba, l-armonija, il-libertà tar-reliġjon, u jiddikjara li “l-aċċettazzjoni tal-fidi hi ħaġa ta’ bejn il-bniedem u Alla tiegħu u m’għandek qatt tindaħallu bl-ebda mod; kulħadd għandu d-dritt jgħix skont il-fidi tiegħu u jeżerċita r-ritwali reliġjużi tiegħu.”

Forsi dan huwa għax il-Kamra tad-Deputati fl-Istati Uniti tal-Amerika introduċiet riżoluzzjoni bla preċedent li tirrikonoxxi lil dan il-Mandela Musulman bħala “raġel ta’ paċi.” Kien ippreżentat iċ-ċavetta tad-deheb mill-Kunsill tal-Belt Los Angeles, li jiddikjara: “This Key is reserved for only the most honoured people on Earth.”

Mandela Musulaman jirrispondi lis-sfidi madwar id-dinja bil-ftuħ ta’ ħafna kliniċi u sptarijiet li joffru għajnuna medika għal dawk fil-bżonn, skejjel li joffru t-tagħlim sekulari b’xejn għat-tfal kollha, kemm Musulmani kif ukoll dawk li jħaddnu reliġjonijiet oħra, mingħajr ebda diskriminazzjoni. Waqqaf numru kbir ta’ proġetti soċjali biex jgħin fl-iżvilupp ta’ pajjiżi foqra madwar id-dinja, u qed joffri għajnuna lill-vittmi ta’ gwerer u diżastri naturali. 

Mandela Musulman ivvjaġġa immensament biex jippromwovi l-messaġġ tal-paċi u jiffaċilità s-servizz lill-umanità u indirizza laqgħat importanti f’Capitol Hill, Washington D.C, fil-Parlament Ewropew, fil-Kwartieri Ġenerali Militari Ġermaniżi u fil-Parlament Britanniku fost oħrajn. Kulfejn imur jenfasizza fuq ġustizzja assoluta, dinjità umana, ugwaljanza, drittijiet umani u jikkundanna bla riservi l-vjolenza u t-terroriżmu f’kull forma u għal kull raġuni, u jgħid li “l-Iżlam ma jippermettix il-moħqrija u l-oppressjoni taħt l-ebda forma, sura jew manjiera. Dawn l-atti barbari jmorru kompletament kontra t-tagħlim veru tal-Iżlam.”

Taħt it-tmexxija tiegħu tqassmu miljuni ta’ fuljetti b’messaġġi ta’ paċi u lealtà sħiħa lejn il-pajjiż ta’ residenza u s-servizz lejn l-umanità kollha; u jiġu organizzati simpożji għal reliġjonijiet differenti u konferenzi dwar il-paċi fejn għadd ta’ mistednin minn kull qasam tal-ħajja jiltaqgħu flimkien biex jaqsmu l-ideat dwar il-promozzjoni tal-paċi u l-armonija.

Bla dubju ta’ xejn, bħall-President Mandela, Mandela Musulman huwa wkoll simbolu ta’ maħfra, ħidma, imħabba, għaqda, solidarjetà, rikonċiljazzjoni, talb u tama.

Ejja u ltaqa’ ma’ Mandela Musulman li huwa Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, il-Kalif tal-Iżlam u l-Mexxej Spiritwali tal-Komunità Ahmadija Musulmana. 

Dan huwa bniedem li d-dinja Musulmana għandha bżonn, għax hu jitkellem ċar u jippreżenta soluzzjonijiet għall-kriżi, għall-problemi u l-kunflitti tagħhom. Hu jippreżenta soluzzjonijiet prattiċi u sostenibbli għas-sitwazzjoni kritika fis-Sirja, fl-Afghanistan, fil-Pakistan, fl-Iraq u f’pajjiżi oħrajn li lkoll jinsabu mhedda minn kriżijiet li jheżżu l-umanità skont it-tagħlim Koraniku.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad iwiddeb lid-dinja u jgħid li: “Illum, meta d-dinja qed tinqasam fi blokki, l-estremiżmu qed jiżdied, u s-sitwazzjoni finanzjarja u ekonomika qed teħżien, hemm ħtieġa urġenti biex inwaqqfu kull xorta ta’ mibegħda u nqegħidu l-pedamenti tal-paċi… Iż-żmien qed jagħfas, u qabel ma jkun tard wisq aħna kollha rridu nagħtu kas u attenzjoni partikolari lill-bżonnijiet ta’ dak il-ħin… Għalhekk, biex tittejjeb is-sitwazzjoni u l-paċi tiżviluppa, jeħtieġ li l-partijiet kollha jaħdmu flimkien.”

“Aħna nħossu wġigħ kbir u dieqa f’qalbna għall-istat li tinsab fih id-dinja. Huwa dan l-uġigħ li jkebbes l-isforzi tagħna biex nippruvaw insalvaw l-umanità mill-qerda u s-sofferenza. Għalhekk jiena u l-Musulmani Ahmadin kollha qed nistinkaw biex inwettqu r-responsabbiltajiet tagħna ħalli nxerrdu l-paċi fid-dinja kollha.”

Il-Qdusija Tiegħu, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad ikompli:

“Jekk Alla Jrid, il-Kalifat (Tmexxija) tal-Ahmadija dejjem tkun magħrufa bħala dik li tkun fuq quddiem nett biex tmexxi l-kawża għall-paċi u għall-armonija fid-dinja, kif ukoll li tkun leali lejn il-pajjiż fejn il-membri tagħha jkunu jabitaw.” READ IN IT-TORCA

Exchanging greetings with Hon. Prime Minister

The Prime Minister, the Hon. Joseph Muscat, exchanges greetings with representatives of the constituted bodies and the general public, on December 31, 2013. A delegation of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta also exchanged greetings with the Prime Minister Hon. Dr Joseph Muscat and Mrs. Muscat.

Other faiths can still join the celebrations

“We believe the message of all prophets sent by God is the same: love God and serve humankind,” Laiq Ahmed Atif says from his office.

“The details and guidelines are different, but in essence the message is the same. Every road leads to the same message: love God and serve humanity.”

Mr Atif is the president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta, which is an Islamic reformist movement founded in the 19th century. It encapsulates a few million people in more than 200 countries.

Six years ago, Mr Atif was asked to emigrate to Malta to be the president of the Ahmadi community here.

“As Muslims we respect founders, prophets and messengers of all religions, and we show respect by joining in celebrations,” he says.

Just as they do on Muslim Holy Days, such as the Feast of Sacrifice, around Christmas time Mr Atif’s community visits homes like id-Dar tal-Providenza and St Vincent de Paul bearing gifts.

This Christmas the community expressed solidarity with the staff and children at Fejda and the St Joseph Home in Santa Venera.

“We don’t traditionally celebrate Christmas, but when we live in another country we respect the traditions and culture of that country. Through our visits to these vulnerable people we hope to extend the message of love. We want them to know there are people who care about them.”

The community also exchanges greetings with State representatives, the Church, neighbours, and anyone they have come across, so the list gets longer every year.

In following local tradition, the community prints its own Christmas cards with a message of love.

On Christmas Day, Mr Atif’s family-of-four exchanges greetings with neighbours and friends.

Sometimes they visit people they know will be alone on the day, taking with them clothes or food, according to their needs.

“The satisfaction you feel when you give or do something for someone else cannot be described in words.”

Although Muslims do not celebrate Christmas like the Maltese, they dedicate their early morning prayers to Jesus’s message, asking God for strength to follow his teachings. When it comes to the Hindu community in Malta, some Indian families join Maltese ones for Christmas Eve Mass and then gather with their relatives for Christmas lunch. Continue Reading…

Ahmadiyya Malta distributed gifts at Fejda Institution

Fejda Institute 11.12.13 (1)The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta’s president together with other members visited Fejda institution – a home for girls with social problems, and distributed gifts for the festive season and showed solidarity with them. 

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat is a religious organisation which always tries to help those in need. Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas, the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community says: “The teachings of the Holy Quran can be divided into two major categories. The first being unity of God, love and obedience to Him. The second is to treat kindly your brothers and fellow beings… be kind and merciful to humanity… always work for the good of mankind.”

Ahmadiyya donated books to school

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta donated thirty children books to Msida Primary School. The books were presented by Laiq Ahmed Atif, president Ahmadiyya Community in Malta to the Head of the School Mrs. Ungaro, Ass. Head Mr. Aquillina and Ms. Scibberras. 

The Head of School said that ‘they are setting a new library for the children and these books will be of a great help’.
