A Father’s Advice

Earlier this year I lost my father to COVID-19. Though the loss is incredibly painful but moments like this remind us of Allah’s will and His greater plans. But as I sit here today, I can’t help but reminisce over the valuable life lessons taught to me by my father. 

Remembrance of Allah

One of the best things my father taught me was that no matter how busy life may be and no matter whatever the stress is, always remember Allah and take time out in the day to pray to God Almighty. 

Modesty

My father instilled a great importance for modesty within me. He taught me that I must take control over my own modesty. One of his biggest valuable lessons to me was how your appearance impacts people’s perception of you.

He never forced me to wear anything, but let me understand for myself the choices I will need to make. His encouragement on me making my own choices gave me the confidence to walk in society without feeling insecure or oppressed.

Education

My father taught me how important it was for a girl to have a good education. He never differentiated between his sons and daughter. He constantly encouraged me and stood by my side to ensure I get the best education and wished for me to excel just like his sons. 

Despite being the youngest and only girl, though I was pampered, I was also taught how to take care of myself and maintain my independence. He taught me that though there is always family by your side, you should always prepare yourself for any sudden hardship that you may have to face alone.

Charity

Never say no to someone in need. My father was a very compassionate man. He always taught us that even if we have to sacrifice one of our own needs, never refuse someone in need. Even if you cannot help them completely still try your utmost to help them as much as possible, because every drop counts. He always taught us to take a portion out of our earnings to give to the needy, as we as humans must fulfil each other’s rights and look after one another as much as we can.

So as I recollect the above, I am grateful for all the time I got to spend with my father. For all the wonderful life lessons he has left me with. Though his loss has left a massive void in my heart, I am grateful for the legacy he has left behind and I pray that I am able to act on all of his good deeds.

Parir ta’ Missier

Kmieni din is-sena tlift lil missieri minħabba l-COVID-19. Minkejja li t-telfa ġabet magħha ħafna wġigħ, mumenti bħal dawn ifakkruna fir-rieda ta’ Alla u l-pjanijiet kbar Tiegħu. Imma filwaqt li qiegħed bilqiegħda hawn illum, ma nistax ma nirriflettix dwar il-lezzjonijiet importanti tal-ħajja li għallimni missieri.  

IT-TIFKIRA TA’ ALLA

Waħda mill-aqwa affarijiet li għallimni missieri hija li tkun kemm tkun bieżla l-ħajja u tkun kemm tkun stressanti, aħseb dejjem f’Alla u sib ħinijiet fil-ġurnata fejn tista’ titlob lil Alla Omnipotenti. 

IL-MODESTJA

Missieri wrieni kemm irridu nagħtu importanza fil-ħajja lill-modestja. Huwa għallimni li jiena rrid nikkontrolla l-modestja tiegħi. Waħda mill-aktar lezzjonijiet importanti kienet kif l-apparenza tiegħek tinfluwenza l-perċezzjoni tan-nies tiegħek innifsek. 

Qatt ma sfurzani biex nilbes xi ħaġa, imma ħallieni nifhem waħdi l-għażliet li kelli bżonn nagħmel. L-inkoraġġiment tiegħu biex jiena nieħu d-deċiżjonijiet għalija nnifsi mlieni bil-kunfidenza biex jiena nimxi fis-soċjetà mingħajr ma nħossni insigura u mkażbra.

L-EDUKAZZJONI

Missieri għallimni kemm huwa importanti għal tifla biex ikollha edukazzjoni tajba. Qatt ma għamel differenza bejn uliedu s-subien u bintu. Kien kontinwament jinkoraġġini u dejjem kien maġenbi biex jara li jien nieħu l-aqwa edukazzjoni u dejjem xtaq li jien immur tajjeb bħal uliedu s-subien.  

Minkejja li jiena kont l-iżgħar u l-unika tifla, u kont imfissda xi naqra, kont mgħallma wkoll biex nieħu ħsieb tiegħi nnifsi u nżomm l-indipendenza tiegħi. Għallimni li minkejja l-għajnuna dejjiema tal-familja, għandek dejjem tkun preparata biex taffaċċja waħdek kull ostaklu li jista’ jinqala’.

IL-KARITÀ

Qatt m’għandek tgħid le lil xi ħadd fil-bżonn. Missieri kien bniedem ġeneruż ħafna. Dejjem għallimna li anki jekk ikollna nissagrifikaw wieħed mill-bżonnijiet tagħna, qatt ma għandna niċħdu lil xi ħadd fil-bżonn. Anki jekk ma tkunx tista’ tgħin kompletament dejjem ipprova agħmel ħiltek biex tgħin kemm jista’ jkun possibbli, għax kull qatra tgħodd. Dejjem għallimna biex nieħdu ftit minn dak li naqilgħu biex nagħtu lil min ikollu bżonn, għax aħna bħala bnedmin irridu nħarsu d-drittijiet ta’ kulħadd u nieħdu ħsieb lil xulxin kemm nistgħu.

B’hekk kif qiegħed naħseb fuq dawn l-affarijiet, ninsab rikonoxxenti għall-ħin kollu li qattajt ma’ missieri. Għal-lezzjonijiet sbieħ tal-ħajja li ħallieli. Għalkemm it-telfa tiegħu ħallietli vojt enormi f’qalbi, ninsab grat għall-wirt li ħalla u nitlob li nkun nista’ naġixxi fuq l-għemejjel tajba kollha tiegħu.

Serving Others

Naqdu lil Ħaddieħor

Għandek tkun l-id ta’ fuq għax huwa dak li tonfoq, tagħti u taqdi lill-bnedmin oħra; tkun dak li tagħti minflok tieħu.

Il-ġenerożità u l-ħidma soċjali huma valuri umani mill-isbaħ. Bla dubju ta’ xejn, il-pjaċir, il-ferħ, is-sodisfazzjon u s-serħan tal-moħħ li persuna tħoss wara li taqdi lil ħaddieħor huma inkredibbli, u ma jistgħux jiġu espressi fi kliem, iżda jistgħu jinħassu biss permezz tal-esperjenza personali. Għalhekk, wieħed irid jaqdi lil ħaddieħor biex jesperjenza kuntentizza u sodisfazzjon tal-qalb, għax, verament, il-ġest tas-solidarjetà jġib ferħ u sodisfazzjon ta’ qalb.

Għalhekk, il-Qaddis Profeta Muħammad, is-sliem għalih, darba qal: “L-id ta’ fuq hija aħjar mill-id t’isfel: l-id ta’ fuq tagħti u tonfoq, l-id t’isfel tittallab u tirċievi.”

L-Iżlam, bħala reliġjon, jenfasizza ħafna fuq din il-filosofija li tagħti minflok tieħu xi ħaġa, li taqdi lil ħaddieħor minflok li tinqeda. L-enfasi fl-Iżlam huwa li inti tieħu s-sodisfazzjon billi tkun ta’ servizz għal ħaddieħor u mhux viċiversa. Il-parti li jmiss meħuda minn vers mill-Koran Imqaddes proprju twassal dan il-messaġġ:

“Inti tkun mill-aħjar nies meta tkun ta’ servizz għall-oħrajn u tittella’ għall-fejda tal-umanità; inti tamar it-tajjeb, u tevita l-ħażin u temmen f’Alla.” (3:111)

Dan il-vers juri biċ-ċar kemm huwa importanti għalina li biex inkunu ġusti u twajba huwa importanti, anzi, obbligatorju li rridu naqdu l-ħolqien ta’ Alla. Wieħed għandu jistinka biex ikun ġust, umli u maħbub ta’ Alla billi jkun ta’ servizz għal ħaddieħor ħalli l-pjaċiri jgħaddu minn proxxmu għal ieħor.

Ir-Raba’ Kalif tal-Komunità Ahmadiyya jispjega dan iktar u jgħid li l-aċċenn fuq is-servizz mhux biss approċ iebes u bla ħeġġa, iżda attentat biex jiġu rfinuti l-attitudnijiet tal-bniedem u li titnissel fih ħajra għal valuri aktar sofistikati. Hekk kif jiġu żviluppati attitudnijiet aktar irfinuti, il-bnedmin jistgħu jiġu mħarrġa biex jieħdu gost ikunu ta’ servizz għall-oħrajn aktar milli jkunu biss reċipjenti tal-favuri u li jingħataw huma servizz mingħand ħaddieħor.

Nofs il-fidi huwa s-servizz lejn il-ħolqien ta’ Alla. Il-prinċipju fl-Iżlam jidher li għemil ta’ tjubija huwa premju fih innifsu. Imur lil hinn mir-renju tal-argument; dan jista’ jiġi biss esperjenzat.

L-Iżlam ta definizzjoni daqshekk wiesgħa lill-karità u s-solidarjetà, li dan mhux biss biex tgħin lil dawk fil-bżonn b’xi flus, iżda dan huwa valur uman sabiħ ħafna li għandu tifsira usa’ ħafna. Allura, kull għemil tajjeb u kull tip ta’ għajnuna huma kkunsidrati bħala karità u solidarjetà, u jistħoqqilhom premju mingħand Alla.

Il-Qaddis Profeta Muħammad, is-sliem għalih, kien qal: Il-karità għandha tingħata minn kull driegħ u riġel ta’ persuna f’kull ġurnata li titla’ x-xemx.

Li titwettaq il-ġustizzja bejn tnejn min-nies hija karità, li tgħin persuna jirkeb il-bhima tiegħu jew li tqiegħed l-affarijiet tiegħu fuqha hija karità, li tneħħi minn toroq dak kollu li joħloq xkiel hija karità.

It-tħawwil ta’ siġra huwa att ta’ karità. Kelma tajba hija karità.

Jekk persuna għandu ma jkollha xejn, għandha taħdem b’idejha stess għall-ġid tagħha u biex toffri l-karità. Jekk mhijiex kapaċi taħdem, għandha xorta tgħin lil xi ħadd fil-bżonn u bla għajnuna ta’ xejn. Jekk lanqas mhi kapaċi twettaq dan, mela għandha tħajjar oħrajn biex jagħmlu l-ġid. Jekk ma tasalx għal dan lanqas, mela għandha trażżan lilha nnifisha milli twettaq il-ħażin. Dan ukoll huwa karità.

Salvation

Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the Promised Messiah & Mahdias, the Holy Founder of the Ahmadiyya Community, writes:

[“He indeed truly prospers who purifies it.” Holy Quran, 91:10]

Meaning, a person who purifies their soul has attained salvation. In other words, one who abstains for the sake of God Almighty, from every kind of self-invented belief, sin, impiety, and from their base desires; who abandons every form of selfish pleasure, preferring hardships in the way of God; who gives precedence to God Almighty, discarding the world along with its luxuries, is truly one who has attained salvation. Then Allah says:

[“And he who corrupts it is ruined.” Holy Quran, 91:11]

One who adulterates their soul and inclines to the earth, is reduced to dust. This single phrase is a summary of all the teachings of the Holy Quran and it expounds the manner in which a person can reach God Almighty.

It is a clear and established fact that until man renounces the misuse of his human faculties, he cannot find God. If you desire to escape the filth of this world and attain communion with God Almighty, then renounce these pleasures. For if not:

[You seek God as well as this wretched world; this is wishful thinking, rather impossible, nay insanity.]

In actuality, human nature is not inherently evil nor is a thing evil in itself; rather, improper use makes it so. Display, for instance, is not bad in itself. For if one performs an action for the sake of God Almighty alone and so that others are moved to perform that good deed as well, then such an exhibition is also virtuous. L-Ewtanasja u l-Iżlam

Hemm ġustifikazzjoni għall-ewtanasja fl-Iżlam?

L-Iżlam ma jipprovdi l-ebda ġustifikazzjoni għall-ewtanasja. Ir-raġuni għal dan hija li, skont il-Koran Imqaddes, il-ħajja umana ma tinsabx f’idejna – hija tinsab f’idejn Alla biss.

Il-kunċett ta’ ħajja ‘li mhix denja li tingħex’ ma jeżistix fl-Iżlam. Alla ordna li l-ħajja umana għandha tiġi rispettata bla kundizzjoni ta’ xejn u l-ebda ammont ta’ sofferenza umana temporanja m’għandu jħassar il-qdusija tal-ħajja umana.

Alla jiddikjara fil-Koran Imqaddes: “Toqtolx il-ħajja li Alla għamel sagra.” (6:152)

It-tbatija mezz ta’ maħfra

Ir-Raba’ Kalif tal-Komunità Ahmadiyya Musulmana jispjega dan b’mod tajjeb ħafna u jgħid li t-tbatija għandha tiġi mnaqqsa sa ċertu punt bil-mediċina u mezzi oħra. Jekk persuna ma tkunx tista’ ssib aktar soljiev, mela dik it-tbatija ssir mezz ta’ maħfra għad-dnubiet sakemm Alla jġib il-mewt bir-rieda Tiegħu.

Il-ħajja u l-mewt jinsabu f’idejn Alla

Skont il-Koran Imqaddes, il-ħajja u l-mewt jinsabu f’idejn Alla, u Alla biss. Dawn imorru lil hinn mid-dominanza u l-awtorità tal-bniedem. Alla jgħid fil-Koran Imqaddes, “Huwa Allah li jagħti l-ħajja u jikkawża l-mewt.” (10:57)

Barra minn hekk, il-qdusija tal-ħajja hija tant importanti li t-tbatija temporanja m’għandhiex titħalla tinterferixxi fil-qdusija tal-ħajja. Jekk darba tibda tagħti dan id-dritt lin-nies biex jieħdu ħajjithom stess bl-iskuża tat-tbatija, jew biex jieħdu l-ħajja ta’ xi ħadd ieħor, il-għaliex dik il-persuna qed tbati u minħabba t-tbatija tista’ tintemm ħajjitha, allura fejn se nispiċċaw!

Ladarba tibda allura ma jkun hemm l-ebda tmiem għaliha. U kull meta jinqala’ xi ħaġa, in-nies se jsibu l-iskużi biex jappoġġjaw l-argument tagħhom u dan se joħloq ħafna kwistjonijiet soċjali ġodda u se jwassal għal ħafna kumplikazzjonijiet oħra. Żgur li mhux għaqli li ssolvi problema waħda jew tbatija partikolari, waqt li toħloq konfużjoni u kaos fis-soċjetà.

Il-prezz li għandek tħallas

It-tbatijiet jistgħu jiġu mtaffija sa ċertu punt mill-bniedem permezz tad-drogi u mediċini oħra; jekk ma tistax tgħin persuna aktar minn hekk allura t-tbatija ssir mezz li twassal għall-mewt. Ħalli lil Alla jagħmel dan bil-liġi Tiegħu. Ftit mumenti aktar jew ftit mumenti inqas mhumiex importanti meta mqabbla mal-prezz li għandek tħallas ladarba tibda tieħu d-deċiżjonijiet f’idejk.

Fejn se nispiċċaw!

Allura, huwa ferm importanti li ma nidħlux f’dawn l-affarijiet li l-awtorità tagħhom tinsab f’idejn il-Mulej, u l-Mulej biss. Ladarba n-nies jingħataw permess għall-ewtanasja, dan jiftaħ toroq oħra għal aktar talbiet bħas-suwiċidju u li wieħed jista’ jtemm ħajtu meta jħoss li ma jistax jiffaċċja aktar l-isfidi tal-ħajja. Aħseb u ara fejn se nispiċċaw ladarba dan iseħħ fis-soċjetajiet tagħna.

Barra minn hekk, kif se nkunu nafu u niżnu l-livell tat-tolleranza tan-nies li jbatu minn ċertu mard jew uġigħ. Metodu wieħed għal kulħadd ma jistax jaħdem, għax it-tolleranza tan-nies għat-tbatija hija differenti. Xi nies bl-iċken uġigħ jgħollu s-saqaf fuq rashom, filwaqt li xi wħud isofru bil-paċenzja l-uġigħ inkredibbli li jkollhom. Huwa meta xi ħadd jgħaddi minn dik l-esperjenza li wieħed jirrealizza l-uġigħ li jkollu u kif marda bħal din twassal għal tant uġigħ u sofferenza. Allura kollox jiddependi minn kull individwu.

Lil min għandek tippermetti?

Il-mistoqsija hi li, allura, lil min għandek tippermetti, u f’liema livell? Kif tkun taf l-istorja u s-sitwazzjoni interna ta’ persuna? Kif tista’ tpoġġi lilek innifsek f’moħħ xi ħadd biex tiġġudika li verament mar lil hinn mil-livell normali ta’ tbatijiet?

Din hija kwistjoni sensittiva u kkumplikata ħafna. Allura m’għandniex nindaħlu f’dawn l-affarijiet.

Xi darba tiġi ppreżentata din il-loġika li n-nies ma jistgħux jaraw it-tbatijiet tal-maħbubin tagħhom. Huwa iebes ħafna għalihom li jaraw lill-għeżież tagħhom isofru u jġorru wġigħ u skumdità estremi. Din l-attitudni hija egoista ħafna. Huma jridu jpoġġu lill-persuna li qed tbati f’waqt ta’ mistrieħ biex huma jkollhom ftit mistrieħ huma stess. Huwa maħsub li dan isir minħabba l-ħniena għalihom, iżda l-fatt hu li jista’ jkun bil-maqlub, jista’ jkun ta’ ħniena għalihom infushom u mhux għal dawk li jbatu. Xi darba jgħidu, għaliex għandi nibqa’ nbati, l-għażla x’nagħmel b’ħajti hija tiegħi. L-Iżlam ma jaqbilx ma’ din il-loġika lanqas u jgħid li l-bniedem mhuwiex f’pożizzjoni li jgħid li għandu awtorità sħiħa fuq ħajtu, għaliex huwa ma jiġix fid-dinja skont ir-rieda tiegħu u lanqas ma jitlaq meta jiddeċiedi hu. Huwa kreatura u Dak li Ħalqu stabbilixxa ċerti regoli u regolamenti kif għandna ngħixu ħajjitna. Il-bnedmin huma responsabbli għal għemilhom kollha quddiem Alla.

Simplicity a means of happiness

Is-Sempliċità – Mezz ta’ Kuntentizza

“Ħares lejn dawk li huma iktar baxxi minnek, imma tħarisx lejn dawk li huma ‘l fuq minnek, ħalli ma tnaqqasx il-favuri u l-barkiet li Alla tana.”

Fid-dinja moderna tal-lum il-ħajja saret mgħaġġla ħafna. Minħabba invenzjonijiet ġodda u disponibbiltà faċli ta’ dawk l-affarijiet, il-bniedem jagħmel minn kollox biex juża dawn l-invenzjonijiet għall-kumdità tiegħu u biex ikollu serħan il-moħħ.

Naraw li din il-kultura prevalenti qed issir dejjem aktar mgħaddsa fil-materjaliżmu – stmat saħansitra ogħla mill-imħabba u l-kuntentizza.

Iżda, m’għandniex ninsew li dawn l-affarijiet materjalistiċi għandhom ukoll impatti negattivi fuq is-soċjetà u kif ukoll fuq il-bniedem. L-ewwel nett, il-materjaliżmu ma jistax u qatt ma jista’ jipprovdi vera paċi tal-moħħ u sodisfazzjon tal-qalb.

It-tieni nett, minħabba dawn ix-xewqat materjalistiċi, il-faqar jiżdied fis-soċjetà u dawk li ma jaffordjawx dak kollu jħossuhom iffrustrati, iddiżappuntati u inferjuri. Dawn is-sentimenti, fl-aħħar mill-aħħar, jirriżultaw fit-tfixkil tal-bilanċ fis-soċjetà.

Xi wħud minna ma jemmnux li l-kuntentizza hija marbuta mill-qrib ma’ dak li aħna stess, dak li nikkunsmaw, u kif ngħixu! Għandna nistaqsu lilna nfusna jekk ngħixux f’kultura mgħaddsa fil-konsumeriżmu u jekk taffettwax lil ħajjitna. Waqt li neżaminaw lilna nfusna, huwa importanti li nikkunsidraw il-konsegwenzi negattivi ta’ dan l-istil ta’ ħajja.

Huwa importanti li naħsbu fuq dan il-punt u naraw li jekk is-soċjetà taħseb li hija kuntenta f’din is-sitwazzjoni tal-materjaliżmu jew hemm mod ieħor li jista’ jagħtina iktar kuntentizza u serħan tal-moħħ.

Nemmen li s-sempliċità hija mezz sabiħ ħafna u meraviljuż ta’ kuntentizza. Meta naddottaw il-kultura, jew stil ta’ ħajja sempliċi nħossuna ħafna aħjar u nsibu kuntentizza anke f’affarijiet normali u sempliċi.

Il-Qaddis Profeta Muħammad, is-sliem għalih, ta parir konċiż, iżda għal dejjem, bħala l-prinċipju tad-deheb f’dan ir-rigward. Hu qal:

“Ħares lejn dawk li huma iktar baxxi minnek, imma tħarisx lejn dawk li huma ‘l fuq minnek, ħalli ma tnaqqasx il-favuri u l-barkiet li Alla tana.”

Hawnhekk, li tħares lejn dawk “iktar baxxi” u “fuq” tirreferi għall-għana tad-dinja bħall-ġid u l-pożizzjoni.

Barra minn hekk, Alla jgħid fil-Koran Imqaddes li n-nies iħobbu l-ġid u l-affarijiet materjalistiċi ta’ din id-dinja, imma l-aħjar ħaġa hi li tfittex il-pjaċir ta’ Alla (3:15).

Dan huwa prinċipju profond ħafna li jekk aħna rridu nkunu kuntenti allura niffukaw fuq dak li għandna u ma nikkompetux mal-oħrajn fil-ġid materjalistiku, imma fit-tjubija u l-pjetà.

Dawk li ma ddedikawx ħajjithom biex jiksbu d-dinja u d-dinja biss, u ma jiġrux kompletament wara l-ġid tad-dinja biss, imma jgħixu ħajja umli, moderata u sempliċi minħabba l-imħabba ta’ Alla, huma żgur li jsibu l-kuntentizza vera. Alla żgur li jimla ħajjithom b’kumdità u sodisfazzjon.

Hawnhekk irrid insemmi li l-Iżlam jippromwovi stil ta’ ħajja sempliċi, imma jagħti fehim ieħor tal-ħajja sempliċi u dan huwa li tiffoka inqas fuq qligħ personali u tiffoka aktar fuq li sservi l-ħolqien ta’ Alla. Huwa jipprojbixxi t-tberbiq iżda jħeġġeġ l-infiq:

“Agħtu lill-qraba dak li ħaqqhom, u lill-foqra u lill-vjaġġaturi, u tberbaqx ġidek b’mod stravaganti. Tassew, il-berbieqa huma l-aħwa ta’ Satana, u Satana mhuwiex grat lejn il-Mulej tiegħu.” (Il-Koran, 17:27-28)

Meta naddottaw is-sempliċità f’ħajjitna, is-sbuħija u l-lussu temporanju tad-dinja ma jniġġsux lil moħħna u ħsibijietna u għalhekk nistgħu niffukaw fuq is-sbuħija u s-sodisfazzjon reali tal-ħajja. Nistgħu niffukaw fuq il-fidi tagħna, il-familji tagħna, fuq il-ġenerazzjoni ta’ għada, u nagħmlu sagrifiċċji finanzjarji, u ngħinu lil dawk fil-bżonn; u fuq kollox, nistgħu niddedikaw ħin biex inqimu lil Alla u nistabbilixxu relazzjoni mill-qrib ma’ Alla l-Ħanin, u verament niksbu l-kuntentizza vera u dejjiema.

The Nucleus of a Family

One of the basic principles of building a harmonious, caring and considerate society is to be kind and compassionate to those around us, within our close circles and within the wider circles of our communities.

Parents are the nucleus of a family. After God, they are the means and source of our being and existence. God is our Lord and Creator, and our parents are the reflection of the attributes of the Almighty God.

It is in the parental mirror that the divine attributes of Mercy, Compassion, Love and Providence are reflected and given practical expression on a micro human scale.

Therefore, it is incumbent upon us all to always treat our parents in the manner they should be treated; as the main pillar of the family unit on which the entire structure of family lies.

Guiding towards the kind treatment of parents, God says in the Holy Quran: “Show kindness to parents. If one of them attain old age with thee or both of them, never say unto them any word expressive of disgust nor rebuke them, nor be tough or harsh or coarse to them, but always address them with kind, gentle and excellent speech. And lower to them the wing of humility out of tenderness.” (17:24-25)

The word used for “excellent speech” in the Arabic language, is a very profound word which means to always speak with your parents in a highly esteemed, dignified, respectful and unique manner. It also means to always treat them with extreme honour, dignity and courtesy.

Furthermore, human beings are instructed that they are now in a position to return the love and kindness of their parents, therefore they must become generous and compassionate towards their parents.  The Holy Quran has taught a very beautiful and heart-touching prayer for the parents: “My Lord, have mercy on them, and take care of them as they took care of me and nourished me in my childhood.”

This profound prayer uses a beautiful metaphor to teach us to always be kind to our parents. It further means that as human beings we can never fully repay the love and affection our parents gave us in our childhood and we should therefore pray for God the Almighty to shower His blessings and mercy upon them.

In addition, the words of the prayer imply that in old age, parents need to be looked after as carefully and affectionately as little children are looked after in their childhood; because due to age, they become sensitive and weak.

Unfortunately, parents are not given the respect and care they deserve in their old age; and in certain cases, they are abandoned, marginalised and are left to suffer in solitude. Occasionally, ‘Father’s Day’ and ‘Mother’s Day’ is celebrated and children therefore assume that they have done a lot for their parents, however, if we put ourselves in their situation and try to understand what they are going through, only then we will be able to extend them our true love and care.

We must understand that physical ailments are much easier to cure or alleviate, however, deep psychological traumas from which a considerable number of parents and elderly members of modern societies suffer from, are far more difficult to treat.

The famous proverb, “You reap what you sow” or “As you sow, so shall you reap” teaches us a lesson that we should treat our parents in the same manner as we would like ourselves to be treated in our old age.

Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad, the Fourth Caliph of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, while explaining the importance of taking care of the parents, writes:

This reminds me of a story, which may make some people laugh yet move others to tears. Once, a child observed, with much pain and unease, the ill treatment of his grandfather at the hands of his father. He was gradually transferred from a well-provided and comfortable main bedroom to a smaller and less convenient space until eventually; he was moved to the servant’s quarters.

During an exceptionally harsh winter, the grandfather complained of his room being too cold and his quilt not being thick enough to make him feel warm and comfortable. The father started looking for an extra blanket from a stock of old, useless rags. Observing this, the child turned to his father and requested: ‘Please do not give all the rags to grandpa, keep some for me so that I may be able to give them to you when you grow old’.”

This innocent expression of a child’s displeasure demonstrates the agony of the elder generation in modern times.

Truthfulness

‘One cannot do without truth’

Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas, the Promised Messiah & Mahdi, Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, explaining the importance of truthfulenss says:

“I remember that once I sent an article to Amritsar along with a letter, which was related to the Wakil-i-Hind newspaper owned by Ralia Ram. This letter was deemed to be in contravention of the postal laws and so a lawsuit was filed against me. Even my lawyers advised that there was no hope of acquittal unless the letter was denied, that is to say, there was no way of escape except through untruth. However, I did not approve of this in the least and said that if I am punished for speaking the truth then so be it, I shall not lie.

The lawsuit was finally heard in court and the superintendent of post offices appeared as the plaintiff. When I was questioned about this, I honestly replied that the letter was mine but that I had placed it along with the article, considering it to be a part thereof. Allah Almighty granted insight to the magistrate and so he understood this point. The superintendent of post offices exerted his best efforts but the magistrate paid no heed and acquitted me.

How can I say that one cannot do without lying? Such notions are sheer absurdity. The reality is that one cannot do without truth. Even today when I recall this incident, it gives me pleasure. I followed the command of God Almighty and He favoured me in such a manner as to become a sign.

‘And he who puts his trust in Allah – He is sufficient for him.’ [Holy Quran, 65:4]

Remember well that nothing is more unblessed than falsehood. Generally, worldly people say that those who speak the truth are arrested, but how can I agree?… Allah Almighty Himself defends and supports the truth. Means of attaining purity

Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas, the Promised Messiah & Mahdi, Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, says:

“The fact is that true purity is attained only when one truly repents of a sinful life and strives to attain a life of piety, for which three conditions are required:

First, a solemn resolve and a concerted effort to get rid of sinful life as far as it lies in ones power.

The second condition is prayer; one should always beseech God that He may rid him of the sinful life with His own hand, and kindle such a fire in his heart as may reduce all evil to ashes, and grant him such power that he may be able to overcome all carnal passions. He should keep imploring God until the time comes when a Divine light descends upon his heart and a bright ray falls upon his being to dispel all darkness to eliminate his weaknesses and to bring about a righteous change in him, for prayer undoubtedly has great power. If the dead can be brought back to life it is only through prayer; if captives can win freedom it is only through prayer; if the impure are to be purified it can only be done through prayer. But to pray is akin to dying.

The third condition is to keep the company of the righteous and the perfect ones because one lamp lights another.

These are the only three ways of achieving emancipation from sin, and when these three conditions are met, they are ultimately blessed with Divine grace.” (Ruhani Khazain V. 20, p. 234) — READ in MALTESE

Does Islam permit abortion?

Id-dinja saret kumplessa ħafna. Il-bniedem jitlob ħaġa u mbagħad jiġri għal oħra. Aħna bħala bnedmin m’aħniex kuntenti u sodisfatti, u kontinwament qed nitħabtu għall-kuntentizza, għall-paċi u s-sodisfazzjon. Madankollu, ma nifhmux kif il-kuntentizza u s-sodisfazzjon vera jistgħu jinkisbu. X’inhuma l-mezzi vera għall-kuntentizza? Liema triq twassal għall-paċi u l-hena dejjiema?

Meta sinċerament nevalwaw is-sitwazzjoni ta’ madwarna, insibu n-nuqqas ta’ paċi u sliem fid-dinja moderna. Huwa l-fatt li l-bniedem għamel ħafna progress materjalistiku u ivvinta ħafna affarijiet għall-kumditajiet tiegħu, imma, il-bniedem mhux kuntent u sodisfatt.

Hemm inkwiet, biża’, nuqqas ta’ fiduċja fil-futur u nuqqas ta’ sodisfazzjon li dejjem jikber. Fil-qosor jista’ jingħad li l-bniedem qiegħed fit-tfittxija tal-paċi eterna.

Alla l-Ħanin ipprovda rimedju għal mistoqsijiet u ħtiġijiet bħal dawn u jgħid fil-Koran Imqaddes li, “Huwa fit-tifkira ta’ Alla li l-qlub jistgħu jsibu sodisfazzjon u paċi” (13:29). Jiġifieri, il-paċi, l-hena u s-sodisfazzjon dejjiema jinsabu biss fit-tifkira ta’ Alla, f’relazzjonijiet b’saħħithom mal-Ħallieq, u f’komunjoni mill-qrib mal-Mulej il-Ħanin.

Din hija l-filosofija eterna li permezz tagħha l-bniedem ta’ kull żmien u f’kull era sab rimedju għall-uġigħ u t-tbatija tiegħu. Mingħajr Alla, il-paċi u s-sliem ma jistgħux jinkisbu.

Nuqqas ta’ kuntentizza

Id-dibattitu dwar l-abort huwa wkoll minħabba l-fatt li l-bnedmin mhumiex kuntenti, u dejjem jixtiequ xi ħaġa sabiex jiksbu l-paċi. Iktar milli niffokaw fuq id-dmirijiet u r-responsabbiltajiet tagħna, aħna qed nagħmlu l-isforzi kollha tagħna biex nitolbu aktar u aktar drittijiet għalina nfusna.

Il-bnedmin jixtiequ jgawdu l-kumpanija tal-imsieħba tagħhom, iridu li jsibu mħabba u serenità mill-partner tagħhom, iżda ma jridux li jagħtu kas id-doveri, u jixtiequ jarmu kompletament id-dmirijiet kollha marbuta ma’ dik ir-relazzjoni, bħal li jkollhom it-tfal u jipprovdulhom trobbija xierqa.

L-abort hu qtil ta’ trabi innoċenti

Għalhekk, minn żmien għal żmien, nisimgħu s-sejħiet favur l-abort u ma nifhmux li l-abort huwa qtil ta’ trabi innoċenti fil-ġuf tal-omm, u li jkisser in-natura sagramentali tas-sess, iż-żwieġ, il-familja u l-ħajja umana.

Sfortunatament il-mentalità favur l-abort jew kontra l-ħajja, li tkażbar id-dritt tal-ħajja tat-trabi mhux imwielda għall-konvenjenza personali, soċjali u ekonomika, daħlet ukoll fis-soċjetà tagħna.

Huwa importanti ninnotow li r-relazzjonijiet sesswali fiż-żwieġ huma marbuta ma’ ċertu responsabbiltà u regoli. Ir-relazzjonijiet mhux protetti, mhux ikkontrollati u irresponsabbli huma kontra r-rabta sagra taż-żwieġ.

L-Iżlam jiggwida x-xewqat naturali fid-direzzjoni t-tajba

It-Tieni Kalif tal-Komunità Ahmadiyya Musulmana jispjega dan b’mod tajjeb u jgħid li l-Iżlam ma jfittixx li jkisser ix-xewqat naturali tiegħi, iżda jiggwidahom fid-direzzjoni t-tajba. Aktar minn hekk, ma jfarrakhomlix u jirriduċini f’ġebla; lanqas jirriduċini f’annimal billi ma jikkontrollahomlix, iżda, bħal espert tal-irrigazzjoni li jħażżem l-ilmijiet u jiddireġihom fil-kanali tal-irrigazzjoni, b’hekk, ibiddel art niexfa f’waħda fertili; l-Iżlam jibdel b’kontroll u gwida xierqa x-xewqat naturali tiegħi fi prinċipji morali għolja.

L-Iżlam ma jgħidlix Alla tak qalb li taf tħobb iżda mbagħad ma jippermettilekx issib is-sieħeb/sieħba ta’ ħajtek, jew li żejnek bis-sens tat-togħma u l-kapaċità li tapprezza l-ikel tajjeb, iżda mbagħad jipprojbik milli tiekol dan l-ikel. Bil-kontra, jgħallimni nħobb b’qalbi u bis-sewwa biex it-twettiq tar-riżoluzzjonijiet tajba tiegħi jiġu mħarsa permezz ta’ wliedi. Jippermettini niekol b’kontroll ikel tajjeb biex ma nimteliex jien u l-ġar tiegħi jibqa’ bil-ġuħ. Bit-trasformazzjoni tax-xewqat naturali tiegħi fi kwalitajiet morali għolja l-Iżlam jissodisfa l-umanità tagħna.

L-abort hu kategorikament projbit

L-Iżlam bħala reliġjon universali jipprojbixxi b’mod kategoriku l-abort. L-abort huwa projbit minħabba ħafna raġunijiet waħda minnhom hija li jekk m’hemmx limiti għal dawk affarijiet, allura l-bniedem qatt mhu se jkun sodisfatt u dejjem se jitlob xi ħaġa ġdida. Meta jkollu waħda se jitlob għal oħra.

L-abort huwa kkundannat mir-reliġjonijiet kollha tad-dinja, inkluż l-Iżlam. L-Iżlam iħabrek kemm jiflaħ biex iħares il-qdusija tal-ħajja umana kollha u jqis il-prattika tal-abort daqslikieku wieħed qed ineħħi l-ħajja ta’ bniedem ieħor. Madanakollu, fil-każ li l-ħajja jew is-saħħa tal-omm tkun fil-periklu minħabba l-ħlas, l-Iżlam jagħti aktar drittijiet lill-omm u l-abort isir permissibbli.

Fid-dinja moderna naraw li l-bniedem jagħti prijorità għal għażliet ekonomiċi fuq l-għażliet morali. Peress li huwa irħas li jsir abort milli li trabbi tarbija, hemm nies li jippreferu joqtlu tarbija innoċenti fil-ġuf milli jaċċettaw piż ekonomiku. Ħafna jippreferu jkollhom pixxina ġdida jew karozza moderna jew dar kbira milli tarbija ġdida.

Il-Koran Imqaddes jipprojbixxi l-abort minħabba l-biża’ ta’ problemi finanzjarji. Alla jgħid: “Toqtlux lil uliedkom minħabba l-biża’ tal-faqar. Huwa Aħna li nipprovdu għalihom u għalikom. Tassew, il-qtil tagħhom huwa dnub kbir.” (Il-Koran, 17:32)

Meta wieħed jirriduċi l-proċess onorabbli tar-riproduzzjoni għal għażla ekonomika jkun qed ixejjen wieħed mill-għanijiet ewlenin tal-istituzzjoni taż-żwieġ u jeħodha kontra l-ispirtu tat-tagħlim Iżlamiku.

Dwar il-qtil tal-ħajja umana l-Koran Imqaddes jiddikjara: “Teqirdux ħajja li Alla ddikjaraha sagra ħlief għal raġuni ġusta.” (25:69)

Konsegwentement, għall-ġid tal-benesseri soċjali, morali u spiritwali tagħna rridu nadottaw filosofija tal-ħajja u tal-bniedem li tirrikonoxxi d-drittijiet mogħtija minn Alla u d-dmirijiet korrispondenti, li tafferma l-valur morali intrinsiku u d-dinjità tal-bnedmin inklużi persuni b’diżabilità, anzjani u trabi mhux imwielda (unborn babies). U dejjem inħarsu l-istat sagru tas-sess, iż-żwieġ, il-familja u l-ħajja umana.

A Precious Gift

IR-RIGAL PREZZJUŻ

Id-dinja moderna ġabet ħafna sfidi għall-bnedmin. Minħabba l-invenzjonijiet ġodda t-tniġġis fl-arja żdied ħafna. Għalhekk huwa importanti ħafna li nieħdu ħsieb l-ambjent ta’ madwarna. Waħda mis-soluzzjonijiet hi li nibdew inħawlu ħafna siġar kemm nistgħu f’kull rokna ta’ pajjiżna.

Hawn irrid nikteb l-istorja li qrajt ħafna snin ilu, iżda l-messaġġ tagħha huwa importanti l-istess illum kif kien qabel, anki aktar minn qatt qabel.

Qrajt li darba waħda r-re ta’ xi pajjiż kien għaddej minn qalb l-għelieqi u ra raġel li kien xiħ ħafna u li kien qed ħawwel siġra. Ir-re kien sorpriż u mar ħdejh u qallu:

‘‘Għal xiex inti qed tħawwel din is-siġra?’’

Ir-raġel qal: ‘‘Għall-frott, għall-kenn, għall-ossiġnu u għall-arja safja.’’

Ir-re qal: ‘‘Int taf li inti raġel xiħ ħafna u ma tafx kemm se tgħix aktar, hu possibbli li tmut qabel din is-siġra tikber, issir siġra kbira u tibda tagħti l-frott u l-kenn.’’

Ir-raġel qal: ‘‘Maestà! Din is-siġra mhux għalija. Naf li aktarx immut fil-futur qrib iżda rrid li nħalli xi ħaġa tajba lill-ġenerazzjonijiet ta’ warajja u nagħti rigal ta’ valur kbir lin-nies li ġejjin warajja.”

U kompla jgħid li: ‘‘Din se tkun karità u rigal minni għas-snin li ġejjin, u se nirċievi l-barkiet ta’ Alla sa dak iż-żmien li din is-siġra se tibqa’ tagħti benefiċċji lin-nies.’’

Din l-istorja għandha messaġġ sabiħ wisq li l-għemejjel tajba ma jispiċċaw qatt u jibqgħu għal dejjem. Is-siġar huma wkoll rigal mill-isbaħ li wieħed jista’ jagħti lit-tfal ta’ għada.

The Power of Prayer

IL-QAWWA TAT-TALB

Niżamuddin Auliya, qaddis minn Delhi, kien il-bniedem għaref għal ħafna qaddisin. Bis-saħħa tiegħu, l-għarfien inxtered sewwa fl-Indja.

Xi azzjoni ta’ Niżamuddin Auliya dejqet lil re tad-dinastija Tughlaq li kienet taħkem lill-Indja dak iż-żmien. Ir-re kien tielaq fuq vjaġġ f’dak il-perjodu. Ir-re qal li se jikkastiga lil Niżamuddin Auliya wara r-ritorn tiegħu.

Id-dixxipli ta’ Niżamuddin Auliya bdew jinkwetaw kif saru jafu b’dan. It-tħassib tagħhom żdied hekk kif ir-re beda triqtu lura lejn daru.

Huma ssuġġerew li billi r-re kien ġej lura, kellu jsir sforz għall-konċiljazzjoni qabel ma r-re jasal Delhi.

Niżamuddin Auliya wieġeb, “Kollox jinsab f’idejn Alla. X’nista’ nagħmel? Dak li Alla jixtieq, Huwa jwettaq. Jien se nibqa’ nitlob lil Alla għall-maħfra, il-ħniena u l-għajnuna tiegħu. Għax, Alla l-Ħanin jaċċetta talb tal-qaddejja umli Tiegħu.”

Meta r-re kien wasal aktar fil-qrib, l-inkwiet tad-dixxipli ta’ Niżamuddin żdied. Huma reġgħu sostnew li ma tantx kien għad baqa’ bogħod. Niżamuddin Auliya qal, “Tinkwetawx, Delhi għadha ’l bogħod.”

Fl-aħħar ir-re wasal fil-qrib. Kienet id-drawwa tar-rejiet Iżlamiċi li huma ma kinux jidħlu fil-belt tul il-lejl. Dan għaliex din kienet id-drawwa tal-Qaddis Profeta Muħammad, il-paċi tkun fuqu. Għalhekk, hekk kif ir-re wasal qrib, huwa ssetilja barra l-belt, u ħareġ avviż li kien iħabbar id-daħla tiegħu fil-belt li kienet se sseħħ l-għada.

Id-dixxipli ta’ Niżamuddin Auliya għal darba oħra insistew li r-re kien wasal biex jidħol fil-belt. U Niżamuddin Auliya reġa’ qalilhom, “Delhi għadha ’l bogħod.”

Hekk kif id-dawl tal-jum beda jinxtered, id-dixxipli tiegħu bdew jinkwetaw ħafna dwar x’tip ta’ tpattija se jkun hemm. Iżda minflok waslet l-aħbar li r-re miet f’xi inċident u daħal il-ġisem tar-re mejjet fil-belt minfloku.

Għalhekk, fejn jidħol Alla, anki r-rejiet ma jiswew xejn ħdejh, għaliex il-kuntentizza vera tilħaq lil dawk biss li għandhom relazzjoni mas-Setgħani. Huwa veru li, meta qaddej umli jitlob b’sinċerità sħiħa, Alla l-Ħanin jaċċetta t-talb tagħhom. Bla dubju hemm qawwa kbira fit-talb.

Courtesy and Good Talk

KELMA TAJBA U ĠUSTA!

Huwa importanti li niżnu sew il-kelma qabel ma ngħiduha; u dejjem ngħidu kelma tajba u ġusta, għax, kelma tajba u ġusta tiżen ħafna fl-iskala.

Il-bniedem ħafna drabi jgħid jew jagħmel affarijiet li jeħduh qrib il-ħażen u ’l bogħod minn Alla. Alla jgħid fil-Koran Imqaddes li s-suċċess żgur jasal għand dawk li jemmnu, u għand dawk li huma umli fit-talb tagħhom, u għand dawk li jevitaw kull ħaġa ħażina (23:2-4).

Għalhekk, huwa importanti ħafna li aħna dejjem nimxu mal-verità u l-ġustizzja, u nibqgħu sodi fuq it-tjieba u l-pjetà. Huwa wkoll importanti li nibnu relazzjoni tajba mal-oħrajn u biex ikollna konsiderazzjoni u rispett għal xulxin.

Wieħed mill-prinċipji ewlenin li kull ċittadin għandu jipprattika fil-ħajja ta’ kuljum tiegħu huwa li jkollu relazzjonijiet tajbin mal-bnedmin ta’ madwaru. Imma kif nistgħu nibnu relazzjonijiet tajbin mal-oħrajn? Kif nistgħu nibnu l-pontijiet bejn in-nies?

Huwa billi nieħdu ħsieb is-sentimenti ta’ xulxin, u billi nuru attitudni ġenwina u ta’ mħabba u rispett lejn xulxin. Barra minn hekk, sabiex nistabbilixxu relazzjonijiet sodi, għandna  dejjem ngħidu l-verità u kelma tajba; u qatt ma nlissnu kliem li jweġġgħu s-sentimenti ta’ ħaddieħor, u dejjem inżommu lsienna milli ngħidu kliem mhux xieraq. 

It-tjubija u l-pjetà huma obbligatorji fuq il-kuxjenza ta’ persuna, fit-twemmin tagħhom, fl-ilsien tagħhom, u fil-morali. Imma, l-iktar sensittiva minn dawn l-affarijiet tirrigwarda l-ilsien. Ħafna drabi, persuna tabbanduna l-biża’ ta’ Alla u tgħid xi ħaġa li tweġġa’ lil ħaddieħor.

Il-bniedem ġust dejjem iżomm l-umanità kollha fil-konsiderazzjoni tiegħu. Għalhekk, Alla għallem li persuna għandha tikkontrolla lsienha, u tastjeni milli tagħmel kummenti inutli, assurdi, mhux xierqa u bla bżonn. Għax, l-ilsien waħdu huwa biżżejjed biex ibiegħed raġel mit-tjieba.

Huwa bl-ilsien li wieħed jesprimi l-arroganza, u huwa bl-ilsien li wieħed jibda jiżviluppa tendenzi bħal tal-Faragħuni. Jekk il-bniedem ma jikkontrollax l-ilsien tiegħu huwa minnu li żgur jintemm fil-problemi, għax l-ilsien malajr jikkawża ħsara.

Jiena dejjem nikkwota d-diskors tal-Qaddis Profeta Muħammad, is-sliem għalih, fejn qal li: “Jiena niggarantixxi l-ġenna lil dak li jissalvagwardja mill-ħażen l-organi privati tiegħu u l-ilsien.”

Il-Fundatur tal-Komunità Ahmadiyya jispjega dan u jgħid li dan juri li l-ħsara kkawżata mill-ilsien hija perikoluża. Għalhekk, persuna ġusta għandha żżomm kontroll fuq ilsienha. Persuna li tibża’ minn Alla ma tgħid xejn li jmur kontra t-tjieba. Allura, aħkmu fuq ilsienkom, u tħallux ilsienkom jaħkem fuqkom b’tali mod li titkellem bla sens mingħajr l-ebda konsiderazzjoni.

Qabel ma tgħid xi ħaġa, irrifletti fuq il-konsegwenzi li jġib kliemek. Irrifletti dwar jekk Allah l-Eżaltat jippermettilek tgħid xi ħaġa bħal din, u sakemm ma taħsibx fid-dettall fuq dan, titkellimx. Huwa aħjar li ma titkellem xejn milli tgħid xi ħaġa li tikkawża l-ħażen u d-diżordni, u tweġġa’ s-sentimenti ta’ xi ħadd, tikkawża wġigħ lil ħaddieħor, jew tumilja lil ħaddieħor.

Huwa neċessarju wkoll, madankollu, li wieħed jikkonsidra meta u fejn għandu jgħid dak li jrid, u l-mod ta’ kif wieħed jitkellem għandu jkun ġentili, rispettuż u konsiderat sewwa.

Għalhekk huwa prinċipju ewlieni li niżnu sew il-kliem qabel ma nitkellmu, u dejjem ngħidu kelma diċenti, kelma ta’ mħabba, kelma ta’ kompassjoni, kelma ta’ għerf, kelma ta’ għaqal, kelma ta’ maħfra, kelma ta’ rikonċiljazzjoni, kelma ta’ paċi, u kelma tajba u ġusta. Għax, kelma tajba u ġusta tiżen ħafna fl-iskala.

How to overcome addiction

The Sunday Times of Malta (July 11) carried the findings of a research study by the European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs (ESPAD), titled ‘Alcohol use among young people – the national situation’.

This study shows that alcohol remains the most widely consumed substance both in Malta and across Europe. It did find a decrease in alcohol consumption and risky drinking behaviours but suggested that this is “still relatively high”.

The findings of this research, and similar studies, show some common factors among youth in relation to alcohol consumption. These include peer-pressure to try something new, to have fun and party, the pressure from social circles and the easy availability of alcoholic drinks.

Whenever the subject of drinking comes up in discussion, many are defensive: “I don’t drink a lot”, “I don’t drink regularly” or “I only drink a few times a week”.

This reminds me of a story. There was once a man who had committed many crimes and had exceeded all limits. After he was caught and was about to be hanged for all his crimes, he was asked whether he had a last wish.

He said he wished to meet his mother. When his mother came closer he told her he wanted to say something in her ear. He then bit her ear so hard that she cried loudly in pain.

Hearing all this noise, the guards rushed forward and cursed him: had he no shame? Despite having committed so many crimes, moments before his death he does injury to his own mother.

The criminal replied: “Indeed, today is when I have done a good deed. When I committed petty crimes and people used to complain to my mother, she took my side and, despite knowing the truth, she did not reprimand me. As a result, I became bolder and a big criminal. Had she stopped me from committing minor evils at the time, I would not have become a criminal.”

The moral of this story is that every habit, good or bad, starts with small steps. With the passage of time, it becomes an unbreakable habit and then an addiction.

To avoid falling into addiction, it is important to be resistant early on. Vanity disguised as entertainment can quickly turn into a serious problem, affecting behaviour, health and one’s social and economic well-being. Addiction leads to an aversion towards the more important matters of life. In the Holy Quran, believers are admonished to shun all that which is vain (23:4).

If someone has already developed bad habits, how is it possible to overcome them?

Once again, God has taught us another beautiful way to remove bad habits and help addicts. God says: “Surely good works drive away the evil ones.”

(Holy Quran, 11:115)

This everlasting principle suggests effective ways to overcome and eradicate these habits. Setting a good example is one such method, as it wins over the hearts of others and makes them improve themselves. The emulation of good habits makes bad habits gradually disappear.

It further means that if a person desires to get rid of an evil habit, he should begin to practise a corresponding virtue. In this way, he will soon get rid of his evil habit.

These words tell us that, to avoid the evil consequences of our misdeeds, we should engage in virtuous acts. The more virtue we practise, the more secure we will become from the consequences of our evil deeds.

This is a very simple yet rational and profound principle: counter bad habits with that which is good, replace evil with virtue, replace a bad habit with a good one.

Mere abstention would not serve the purpose unless it is replaced by something valuable, something greater, something more attractive, which cultivates a positive change in a person.

There is no one better than parents to guide their young children, through their compassionate training and by leading with their own excellent example.

Pride and Arrogance

Kburija u Arroganza

Il-Qaddis Profeta Muħammad, is-sliem għalih, kien qal: “Ma jidħolx il-Ġenna min f’qalbu għandu b’toqol ta’ atomu kburija. Wieħed raġel qal: ‘Il-bniedem iħobb li l-libsa tiegħu tkun sabiħa u ż-żarbun sabiħ.’ Qallu l-Qaddis Profeta Muħammad: ‘Alla huwa ġmiel, u jħobb il-ġmiel. Il-kburija hija ċ-ċaħda tal-verità, u li tistmerr lin-nies u tidħak bihom.’”

Dan id-diskors juri biċ-ċar kemm huwa importanti li l-bniedem għandu jkun umli u down-to-earth, u dejjem juri rispett u korteżija lejn l-oħrajn.

Imma ħafna drabi aħna ma nifhmux, x’inhi eżattament l-arroganza u l-kburija? Xi jfisser li tkun arroganti? Nixtieq insemmi xi affarijiet biex nispjega l-attitudni arroganti u kburija, kif nifhimha jien. Il-fehim ta’ dan għażiltu mit-tagħlim tal-Koran Imqaddes.

Skont il-Koran Imqaddes, l-arroganza hija waħda mill-agħar dnubiet li jista’ jumilja persuna f’din id-dinja u l-oħra. Għalhekk, aħna mitluba biex nevitaw l-arroganza għax l-arroganza hija despikabbli f’għajnejn Alla, il-Mulej tal-Glorja.

Kull min ma jurix tjubija lejn ħuh li huwa fqir, din hija arroganza. Kull min iħares lejn ħuh minħabba li jqis lilu nnifsu aktar mgħallem, jew aktar għaqli, jew aktar profiċjenti, jew aktar diċenti, jew isbaħ minnu huwa arroganti. Hekk ukoll dak li, minħabba l-ġid, jew il-pożizzjoni għolja, jew id-dinjità tiegħu, iħares lejn ħuh bħala inferjuri, huwa arroganti għax jinsa li l-ġid, il-pożizzjoni u d-dinjità tiegħu ġew mogħtija lilu minn Alla.

Bl-istess mod dak li jiftaħar bis-saħħa fiżika tiegħu, jew is-sbuħija tiegħu, u jagħti isem ħażin lil ħuh li jwaqqgħu għaċ-ċajt u jipproklama d-difetti fiżiċi tiegħu huwa arroganti. Min jidħaq bid-diżabilità ta’ xi ħadd, għandu sehem ta’ arroganza. Wieħed li jsejjaħ lil ħaddieħor b’ismijiet ħżiena biex jumiljah, huwa wkoll arroganti.

Wieħed li ma jdurx lejn Alla, wieħed li ma jitlobx, u jiddependi biss fuq ir-riżorsi u l-fakultajiet tiegħu, mhuwiex umli, għax hu ma jagħrafx li Alla huwa l-oriġini ta’ kull qawwa, ġid u saħħa, u jiddependi fuqu nnifsu biss.

Min bil-kburija jikkoreġi l-pronunzja ta’ kelma ta’ ħuh huwa arroganti. Min ma jistmax bil-kortesija lil ħuh u jitbiegħed minnu jieħu sehem fl-arroganza. Min jirrabja ma’ ħuh bilqiegħda ħdejh jieħu l-arroganza. Min jidħaq b’wieħed li huwa okkupat fit-Talb jieħu l-arroganza. Min ma jurix ubbidjenza sħiħa lejn Alla, u ma jobdix il-kmandamenti Tiegħu, jieħu sehem fl-arroganza.

Min ma jagħtix kas ta’ ħaddieħor, u wieħed li ma jurix id-dħulija mad-dgħajfin, jieħu sehem fl-arroganza. Min ma jurix il-qalb tajba, il-kompassjoni, u l-imħabba lejn bnedmin oħra sħabu, għandu wkoll sehem fil-kburija.

Il-purifikazzjoni morali hija diffiċli ħafna u ma tistax tinkiseb mingħajr il-grazzja ta’ Alla, il-Glorjuż. Il-purifikazzjoni u l-Grazzja Divina tista’ tinkiseb ukoll, l-ewwel, permezz ta’ sforzi kontinwi, ippjanar, fedeltà u dedikazzjoni sħiħa u devozzjoni; it-tieni, Talb u qima; u t-tielet, li żżomm kumpanija mal-ġusti.

Għalhekk, ejjew nippruvaw biex ma jkollniex arroganza u egoiżmu fina nfusna, f’kull rispett sabiex inkunu salvati mill-ħerba totali, sabiex nippurifikaw lilna nfusna, u sabiex nilħqu s-salvazzjoni.

Ejjew, għalhekk, induru lejn Alla u nħobbu kemm jista’ jkun u nibżgħu minnu ħafna. Ejjew, inkunu qalb safja b’intenzjoni pura u ġentili u umli u ħielsa minn kull inkwiet sabiex inkunu nistgħu nirċievu l-ħniena divina, sabiex aħna nkunu murija l-ħniena mis-sema, sabiex aħna nsiru dawk li nħobbu lil Alla, u huma maħbubin tal-Mulej tal-Glorja.

Taking Care of Parents

Nieħdu Ħsieb il-Ġenituri

Uri tjieba lejn il-ġenituri, qatt tgħidilhom kliem iebes jew ta’ stmerrija, iżda indirizzahom bil-ħlewwa, ġentilezza, umiltà u tenerezza.

Għexieren ta’ snin ilu, ma kienx hemm id-djar tal-anzjani, u l-ġenituri kienu jgħixu fil-familja. Anke llum il-ġurnata, f’ħafna pajjiżi inkluż il-pajjiżi Musulmani, insibu li l-ġenituri jgħixu mat-tfal tagħhom. Din il-kultura hija komuni ħafna f’diversi pajjiżi madwar id-dinja.

Illum il-ħajja saret daqshekk mgħaġġla li t-tfal ma jsibux biżżejjed ħin biex iqattgħu l-ħin mal-ġenituri tagħhom, u jieħdu ħsiebhom. Għalhekk, ħafna ġenituri m’għandhom l-ebda għażla oħra ħlief li jgħixu fid-djar tal-anzjani. Jien ċert li, jekk ikollhom għażla, ħafna minnhom żgur jippreferu li jgħixu mat-tfal u man-neputijiet tagħhom, fid-dar tal-familja.

Għaliex naħseb hekk li l-ġenituri jippreferu l-ħajja mal-familja? Jiġifieri, dan ifisser li d-djar għall-anzjani ma joffrux servizz tajjeb?

Irrid nagħmilha ċara li dan mhux il-każ. Id-djar tal-anzjani joffru servizz eċċellenti, u dan nafu sew, għax żort ħafna drabi xi djar tal-anzjani qabel il-pandemija. L-anzjani qed jingħataw kura u servizz eċċezzjonalment tajba ħafna, u m’għandi l-ebda dubju f’dan, ikun xi jkun.

Imma din hija n-natura tal-bniedem li dejjem jixtieq jgħix ma’ dawk li jħobbuhom b’tant passjoni u b’kumpassjoni enormi, minn qalbhom.

It-tieni, irridu nifhmu li, mard fiżiku huwa ħafna iktar faċli biex tfejjaq jew ittaffi, iżda t-trawmi psikoloġiċi profondi li minnhom qed ibatu numru konsiderevoli ta’ ġenituri u membri anzjani tas-soċjetajiet moderni, huma ferm aktar diffiċli biex jiġu identifikati, mogħtija l-konsiderazzjoni xierqa u l-attenzjoni dovuta sabiex jiġu kkurati.

Ħafna drabi l-ġenituri jsiru ferħanin b’ġesti żgħar, u jaġixxu bħallikieku rċevew il-barkiet kollha tad-dinja u tas-smewwiet, bħallikieku sabu teżor prezzjuż, bħallikieku x-xewqat kollha tagħhom ġew sodisfatti, bħallikieku l-ħolm kollu tagħhom sar realtà.

Dan l-aħħar qrajt il-poeżija ta’ Dun Karm, jisimha ‘Waħdi’. F’din il-poeżija huwa joħlom dwar il-memorji sbieħ, inkluż id-dar tal-familja. Jgħid kemm kienet sabiħa l-ħajja meta kien hemm atmosfera naturali fi ħdan il-familja. Biex nagħti silta minn din l-poeżija:

Ftakart fik, ja dar ħienja u sabiħa,          _________     Dar mimlija bI-imħabba u bil-ġid; Dar missieri, dar ommi, dar ħuti,            _________    Dar il-ħidma tal-moħħ u tal-id.

U fl-aħħar il-poeta jgħid li,

F’dik il-għafsa ta’ qalb reġa’ lura             _________      Il-ħsieb tiegħi, u l-ħolma spiċċat … F’xatt il-baħar, taħt qamar tal-fidda,         _________      Sibtni waħdi fuq xifer il-blat.

Din il-poeżija turi l-għafsa li jħossu l-ġenituri meta huma jgħixu ’l bogħod mill-familja tagħhom. Huma jħossuhom waħedhom, anke jekk ikollhom il-kumditajiet materjalistiċi kollha, anke jekk jingħataw kura u servizz eċċellenti.

Meta nħarsu lejn ir-reliġjonijiet u s-soċjetajiet ċivilizzati, nindunaw li kollha kemm huma taw importanza kbira għar-rispett lejn il-ġenituri. Alla jgħid fil-Koran Imqaddes: “U aħna amarna lill-bniedem biex ikun ħanin mal-ġenituri tiegħu.” (Il-Koran, 46:16)

Alla jgħid fil-Koran Imqaddes li huwa obbligatorju li nieħdu ħsieb il-ġenituri tagħna, u dejjem nittrattawhom b’mod ġentili.

Sidek amar, “Uru tjieba lejn il-ġenituri. Jekk xi ħadd minnhom, jew it-tnejn li huma, jixjieħu miegħek, qatt tgħidilhom kliem iebes jew ta’ stmerrija, iżda indirizzahom bil-ħlewwa. U b’umiltà u tenerezza itlob: Sidi, ħenn għalihom bħalma rabbewni meta kont żgħir.” (Il-Koran, 17:24-25)

Dan juri biċ-ċar kemm huwa importanti li nieħdu ħsieb tajjeb lill-ġenituri tagħna, u mhux biss li nieħdu ħsiebhom, imma nitolbu għalihom regolarment sabiex jekk xi ħaġa hija nieqsa mis-servizz tagħna, Allah jagħtihom dak kollu li huwa tajjeb għalihom.

Barra minn hekk, huwa importanti immens li kuljum niltaqgħu mal-ġenituri tagħna, inqattgħu ħin fil-kumpanija ta’ xulxin, ngħidulhom ftit kliem ħanin u sabiħ, nagħtuhom xi massaġġi, u nuruhom l-imħabba u l-mogħdrija. Għax, ‘fejn tħobb il-qalb jimxu r-riġlejn’. Meta nagħmlu dan, nindunaw li wiċċhom jixgħel bit-tbissima u d-dawl tal-ferħ.

Niftakru sew li l-ġenituri tagħna kienu magħna f’kull mument kemm ta’ ferħ jew ta’ niket. Huma dejjem kienu spalla effettiva għalina f’mumenti tal-isfidi. Għalhekk, tassew jistħoqqilhom li nieħdu ħsiebhom tajjeb ħafna, u nkunu grati lejhom, għax “min ma jiżżix ħajr lin-nies, lanqas ma jiżżi ħajr lil Alla”.

The abortion debate and Islam

Human life is so precious and sacrosanct that the Holy Quran resembles the killing of one as the killing of entire humanity. God says in the Holy Quran: “… Whosoever killed an innocent human being, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind, and whosoever saves the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind” (5:33).

This was further emphasised and elaborated by the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be on him, during his last address known as the farewell address, where he said: “Your lives and your possessions have been made immune by God to attacks by one another until the Day of Judgment. God has made the lives, property and honour of every human sacred. To take any human being’s life or property, or attack their honour is unjust and wrong.”

Furthermore, he presented a golden principle of human dignity and sacredness and said: “None of you has faith until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.”

These are the guiding principles for me when I look towards the prevalent debate about terminating pregnancies and abortion on demand. Undoubtedly, every human life is sacred without any distinction, be it a one-day-old child or a child in the mother’s womb.

Whilst doing my research before writing this article, one of the most difficult subjects for me to write on, the mere thought of this subject inflicts pain and gloom on myself and many other lovers of humanity. I was therefore deeply surprised and saddened to see that there are so many countries that have legalised unconditional abortion.

In the days before Islam, there lived certain tribes in Arabia which considered the birth of girls as a disgrace to their families and some of the chiefs used to kill the girls soon after their birth. They thought that they would save their honour by such an action. The Holy Prophet Muhammad abolished this cruel custom and established the human dignity and elevated it to such a higher position.

The Holy Quran has recorded this barbaric custom with extreme pain stating: “And when the girl-child buried alive is questioned about, ‘for what crime was she killed?’” (81:9-10)

Therefore the message is very clear that Islam believes in life, in human dignity and sacredness of human life. And that is what we should all uphold as a principle that every human life should be dealt with great dignity and sacredness as there is no doubt that life begins from the moment of conception.

In the recent months, this debate is gaining momentum here in our country, and so many arguments and examples of other countries are being presented in favour of the legalisation of abortion.

My humble and simple question is: Have countries where abortion is not a crime achieved the highest standards of human dignity? Have those countries succeeded in giving women their due rights? Does this mean that such countries have become immune to child abuse and violence against women? Are those countries free from every kind of abuse against women, such as rape and domestic violence?

I doubt this is the case. Why then should we tread on the same unsuccessful path that has not bore the desired fruits and results? Why not decide once and for all that human life is sacred and is beyond the human domain.

As far as Islam is concerned, it condemns abortion as also condemned by all world religions. Islam goes to great lengths to protect the sanctity of all human lives and views the practice of abortion as tantamount to taking the life of another human being. The Holy Quran also forbids abortions due to a fear of financial strain, God says:

“Kill not your children for fear of poverty. It is We Who provide for them and for you. Surely, the killing of them is a great sin.” (17:32)

Reducing the honourable process of reproduction to an economic choice nullifies one of the main purposes of the institution of marriage and is against the spirit of Islamic teachings.

However, when under the condition that a mother’s life or health is jeopardized by giving birth, Islam gives greater rights to the mother and abortion becomes permissible to save the life of the mother. Therefore, when a mother’s life is threatened, her life is given preference, and only on the basis of a medical exigency it is permissible. This exception is only on the medical grounds alone, and no other reason, logic and argument is entertained in the favour of abortion.

Islamic Marriage

The reason I have chosen this topic is because I believe that in this day and age, Nikah and the importance of family is often overlooked. The Islamic marriage contract is called ‘Nikah’.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmadaba, the Worldwide Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat explains the wisdom of the Islamic Nikah and says:

“The wisdom of the announcement of the Islamic Nikah or the bond of marriage is that according to the commandment of Allah the Exalted, man and woman who are forming the union of husband and wife pledge at the time of Nikah that they will try to abide by the Divine commandments read before them and will try to abide by the Quranic verses recited before them at the time of Nikah so that they may adapt their lives accordingly.

The foremost advice [at the announcement of Nikah] is to adopt righteousness [Taqwa]. Therefore when one is giving the consent for one’s Nikah, one is agreeing to abide by the Divine commandments that are recited at the time. If you truly have love and fear of God, of the Beloved God Who has taken care of all your needs from your birth, in fact even prior to your birth, then you will always do what pleases Him and as a result will be a recipient of His blessings.

When husband and wife form a union by virtue of a pledge and promise to care for each other it becomes their obligations that in order to further improve their bond, they also care for one another’s relatives.” (Domestic issues and their solutions, p. 14)

As you can see that even in a marriage, the most important thing is Taqwa–Righteousness. The Holy Quran has repeatedly emphasised on the importance of righteousness in a marriage. During the Nikah ceremony, a moment of happiness not just for the couple, but for the families that are coming together to form this pious bond, many forget their responsibilities. Parents sometimes forget the importance of their interaction with the newly married couple. Sometimes families have unfair demands, whether it’s the family of the groom or the bride, and forget the sole reason for why this bond is taking place.

The Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be on him, stated: “a woman’s hand in marriage is asked for four reasons: her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her piety; but you should marry the woman with piety.” This saying highlights the importance of choosing a pious and religious partner. Although many people look for wealth and beauty; the one thing that matters most is piety and faithfulness.

A few months ago, a few members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association and I met with a member of His Holiness’s security team, the Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. The advice he gave us was to always focus on righteousness, to always look for faults within yourself and to try to improve yourself and become a better Ahmadi Muslim and a better citizen. He further said that always look for piety in a partner rather than all the worldly attributes. He said that the youth of this day and age have many challenges and distractions around them, but the Jamaat works as a shield to protect the youth from all these distractions. Therefore, always try to improve yourself and always look for piety whether it’s in your partner or your friends and that will add blessings to both your worldly and spiritual affairs.

I am certain that if we pray regularly, be truthful and maintain the highest level of Taqwa-Righteousness, we will not just achieve Allah’s pleasure and blessings, but everlasting peace and satisfaction in this life and the next. Turn to your Creator

What we saw last year was nothing short of a global crisis. Not only did we witness an immense loss of life, but also social unrest as well as many individuals suffering from mental health issues.

Allah says in the Holy Quran: “And O my people, ask forgiveness of your Lord, then turn to Him, He will send over you clouds pouring down abundant rain, and will add strength to your strength. And turn not away sinners.” (11:53)

I never thought I would witness a pandemic, a term I never even fully understood until March of last year. Being in London at the height of the pandemic, I saw the world change completely. Despite faces being hidden by masks; the unrest was evident. Despite gloves on the hands of people, the trembles were clearly evident. Some feared for their own life, some feared for the lives of their loved ones and some feared for the economic loss that would inevitably hit them.

It is human nature to sit and make a life plan; but it was 2020 that showed me more than ever before that nothing can go to plan. Allah is the greatest of all planners. However, I find that this is a reality that we humans struggle to accept.

Putting your trust in Allah can be very difficult for someone who doesn’t really understand how to do so. It can be incredibly difficult for those who wish to plan everything and rely on their plans, which most people in this world unfortunately do so. The uncertainty that we have witnessed has shaken us to the core and uncertainty can often lead to anxiety and depression. However, as difficult as it may be, the best way to bring yourself up is to understand that Allah has the best planned for you.

It can even be very difficult to identify the purpose of one’s life, where we see immense loss in every way. It is God the Almighty who has given us a purpose in our lives that is to fulfil the rights of God and His creation. We must respect one another and work to build peace in this world.

In times like this when we cannot even plan for the week ahead, we must turn to our Creator more than ever before because the door of God’s mercy always remains open, even when we find all worldly doors of opportunity closed.

Allah says in the Holy Quran: “…Then He turned to them with mercy that they might turn to Him. Surely, it is Allah Who is Oft-Returning with compassion and is Merciful.”(9:118)

We must open our hearts and minds and follow what God has commanded us to do. At any time during our lives, we just need to “turn to Him”, recognise His presence, place everything in His hands, put our trust in Him, and surely, we will be blessed with His love, compassion, forgiveness, mercy and blessings. Ahmadiyya Khilafat

Ħażrat Mirża Masroor Aħmadaba, il-Kap Dinji tal-Komunità Ahmadiyya Musulmana, jgħid:

“Għalkemm il-Komunità Ahmadiyya Musulmana hi komunità żgħira, hi l-komunità li tiġġieled għal kawżi ġusti u hi r-rappreżentanta ġenwina tat-tagħlim veru tal-Iżlam…

It-tagħlim tal-Iżlam ġie aktar elaborat u enfasizzat mill-fundatur tal-Komunità Ahmadiyya li aħna nemmnu li hu l-Messija Mwiegħedas u r-Riformatur ta’ dan iż-Żmien. Hu beda billi ħabbar l-affermazzjoni tiegħu li Alla li Jista’ Kollox poġġa żewġ piżijiet fuqi. Wieħed hu d-dritt ta’ Alla u l-ieħor id-dritt tal-ħolqien ta’ Alla. Kompla jgħid li taqdi d-dmir u tagħti d-drittijiet tagħhom lill-ħolqien ta’ Alla kienet l-iktar sfida diffiċli u delikata.

B’riferenza għall-Kalifat, intom tistgħu tibżgħu li jista’ jiġi żmien meta l-istorja tirrepeti ruħha u li jistgħu jinqalgħu gwerer b’riżultat ta’ din il-forma ta’ tmexxija. Ħalluni, madankollu, nassigurakom li għalkemm din l-akkuża titpoġġa kontra l-Iżlam, Jekk Alla Jrid, il-Kalifat tal-Ahmadiyya dejjem ikun magħruf bħala dak li jkun fuq quddiem nett biex imexxi l-kawża għall-paċi u għall-armonija fid-dinja, kif ukoll li jkun leali lejn il-pajjiż fejn il-membri tiegħu jkunu joqogħdu.

Il-Kalifat tal-Ahmadiyya qiegħed ukoll hawn biex jipperpetwa u jkompli l-missjoni tal-Messija u l-Maħdias, għalhekk assolutament m’hemm l-ebda raġuni ta’ biża’ mill-Kalifat. Dan il-Kalifat jiġbed l-attenzjoni tal-membri tal-komunità lejn it-twettiq ta’ dawn iż-żewġ obbligazzjonijiet li għalihom il-Messija Mwiegħedas ġie u bħala riżultat jipprova joħloq paċi u armonija fid-dinja.” (Il-kriżi dinjija u t-triq għall-paċi, p. 25-26)

Together for Humanity

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta very actively participated in the fundraising event organised by Dar tal-Providenza – a home for the disabled persons. The members of the Ahmadiyya Community offered refreshment, food and drink to all the participants, guests and volunteers. Moreover, they also helped in responding the telephone calls for offering the donations.

A prayer was also held for all the contributors, benefactors and donors. The prayer was led by Rev. Martin Micallef, the Director of Dar tal-Providenza and Imam Laiq Ahmed Atif, president Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta. By the grace of Almighty Allah, the event was very successful and more than half a million Euros were collected. Al-Hamdolillah (all praise belongs to Almighty Allah).

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta is greatly pleased to be part of the FUND-RAISING MARATHON for the Dar tal-Providenza – MARATONA GĦAD-DAR TAL-PROVIDENZA – that is being organised on the Sunday 4th July 2021.

The Holy Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the Promised Messiah & Mahdi (as), has greatly urged the members to selflessly serve the fellow human beings. He says:

“The principle to which we adhere is that we have kindness at heart for the whole of mankind… I love mankind with the love that a compassionate mother has for her children; even more so.”

“There are only two perfect parts of the faith. One is to love God and the other is to love His Creatures so much that you consider their pain to be your own, and to pray for them.’’

“To show compassion and kindness to mankind is a great form of worship and is a potent source of winning the pleasure of God Almighty.’’

“The purpose of the advent of all prophets (peace be upon them all) is shared by them all, and it is to establish the true and real love of God Almighty and to create a special bond of love amongst mankind and one’s brethren and [to honour their] rights. As long as this is not so, all dealings will be mere rituals.’’

The Holy Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community describes his desired objective and says: “My aim and the desired objective is to serve humanity”.

Let us, together, make this event a great success.

Where the world is heading?

Laiq Ahmed Atif | Id-Dawl 42 | We are living in times where materialism is on the rise and human beings are in constant struggle to compete with one another in gaining worldly means and substance. Our lives have become so fast, just like machines. The spiritual needs of human beings are being overwhelmed and overtaken by worldly desires.

At times, human beings feel that they have become like robots to follow the pace of the ever increasing speed of life. It has also been noted, and many people voice their concerns that the technological inventions such as laptops, tablets and smart phones are constantly keeping people engaged in surfacing on the unending and magical world of the internet that human beings are left with no time for their spiritual needs and spiritual nourishment.

The valuable relationships and people that should matter the most, are being neglected constantly. To a certain extent it is true that people living under one roof sometimes feel that they live at far distances with each other due to lack of contact and time, and that this massive world has shrunk and has become so near through smart phones.

In this context, I believe, we must ask ourselves some basic and fundamental questions and we must strive to find out their answers as well.

Where the world is heading to? Are these materialistic and technological advancements sufficient for our physical and spiritual enhancement? What is the objective of our creation? Are we too much involved in the worldly pursuits? Do we care enough about our spiritual needs? Are we doing enough for our spiritual wellbeing and reformation? What generation we are preparing in our homes and societies? Are our children capable enough to face the future challenges the world is going to face in the coming years and decades?

I sincerely believe that we should all ask these questions to ourselves and try to find their answers, and then mend our ways accordingly, before it is too late.

The current generation should lead by example and set excellent examples for the younger generation to follow. We must become inclined to good works and we must remain vigilant so that some conditions prevalent around us may not lead us away from goodness or motivate us to do evil.

In this age, we are seeing that there is a continuous war between good and bad, between virtues and evils. According to the Holy Quran, the purpose of creation of man and Jinn is worship of Allah. So, we must always remember the objective of our being and never engage in worldly pursuit to such an extent that we are lost completely in them and forget our Creator.

Prayers, determination and constant efforts are means that can lead to spiritual reformation and that help us to tread on the path of righteousness and piety. Through these means we can avoid being entrapped by Satan. Prayers help us to stay on the path of virtues and do good and righteous deeds!

The Holy Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, the Promised Messiah & Mahdi (as) emphasizes on attaining purity and prayers, he writes:

“The fact is that true purity is attained only when one truly repents of a sinful life and strives to attain a life of piety, for which three conditions are required: First, a solemn resolve and a concerted effort to get rid of sinful life as far as it lies in ones power. The second condition is prayer; one should always beseech God that He may rid him of the sinful life with His own hand, and kindle such a fire in his heart as may reduce all evil to ashes, and grant him such power that he may be able to overcome all carnal passions. He should keep imploring God until the time comes when a Divine light descends upon his heart and a bright ray falls upon his being to dispel all darkness to eliminate his weaknesses and to bring about a righteous change in him, for prayer undoubtedly has great power. If the dead can be brought back to life it is only through prayer; if captives can win freedom it is only through prayer; if the impure are to be purified it can only be done through prayer. But to pray is akin to dying. The third condition is to keep the company of the righteous and the perfect ones because one lamp lights another. These are the only three ways of achieving emancipation from sin, and when these three conditions are met, they are ultimately blessed with Divine grace.” (Ruhani Khazain V. 20, p. 234)

We cannot inherit Paradise unless we fight against satanic inclinations and obey the commandments of Allah, and try to become righteous. Successful and sincere efforts against Satan would surely lead one to become recipient of Allah’s pleasure and thus enter Paradise. READ this ARTICLE in MALTESE:

Materialism or the Eternal Life?

Materjaliżmu jew ħajja eterna?

Iż-żieda fil-materjaliżmu biegħdet lill-umanità mill-valuri morali, mir-reliġjon u minn Alla. Id-dinja hija assorbita wisq fil-materjaliżmu, kemm fil-Lvant kif ukoll fil-Punent. Hemm ftit nies li japprezzaw verament li l-barkiet kollha f’din id-dinja huma minn Alla u huwa Hu biss li ta lill-bniedem il-kapaċità u l-għerf li joħloq affarijiet għall-konvenjenza u s-sigurtà tiegħu.

Mingħajr il-barkiet ta’ Alla l-bniedem ma setax javvanza fit-teknoloġija u r-rivoluzzjoni xjentifika. Jekk inħarsu madwarna nsibu li Alla ħalaq kollox għalina fosthom l-ikel, l-ilma, ix-xemx, l-ossiġnu, eċċ. anke qabel it-twelid tal-bniedem. Dak kollu jiggwidana biex inkunu grati lejn Alla l-Omnipotenti, inqimu quddiemu, dejjem nimxu fuq dak li Alla jrid minna b’hekk inħarsu u nimxu mal-Kelma Tiegħu. Huwa ferm importanti li nobdu l-kmandamenti Tiegħu fil-ħajja tagħna ta’ kuljum.

Il-bniedem qed jinsa lil Alla

Imma sfortunatament, aktar milli jkunu grati, in-nies qegħdin dejjem jagħżlu aktar il-gratifikazzjoni tagħhom infushom, u r-reliġjon u Alla huma suġġett għal deriżjoni miftuħa. L-ateiżmu qiegħed jiżdied u qed jiżdied b’pass imgħaġġel ħafna.

Il-bniedem qed jinsa lill-Ħallieq u jqis l-affarijiet materjalistiċi bħala mezz għall-paċi interna, imma jinsa l-fatt li l-paċi u s-sodisfazzjon jinsabu biss fit-tifkira ta’ Alla; kif Alla qal fil-Koran Imqaddes li, “Huwa fit-tifkira ta’ Alla li l-qlub jistgħu jsibu sodisfazzjon u paċi.” (13:29)

Meta wieħed jaqra l-istorja umana jsib li ġew ħafna profeti u messaġġiera fid-dinja, u ħadmu u stinkaw bla waqfien biex jistabbilixxu l-imħabba ta’ Alla fi qlub in-nies, imma n-nies dejjem irrifjutaw is-sejħiet tagħhom. Aktar minn hekk, in-nies waqgħu vittmi ta’ forom differenti ta’ politeiżmu u ateiżmu.

Alla u l-messaġġiera Tiegħu ordnaw biex dak li jkun ma jorbotx qalbu mad-dinja, iżda llum, l-imħabba għall-materjaliżmu tiddomina f’kull qalb, u kulħadd donnu mitluf f’din it-tip ta’ mħabba. Meta mitlubin, xi wħud ikunu kontra li jwettqu mank farka xogħol favur ir-reliġjon, ma jkunux iridu jikkommettu ruħhom u jibdew jivvintaw eluf ta’ skużi. Kull forma ta’ mġiba ħażina u immorali titqies bħala permissibbli u kull trasgressjoni possibbli titwettaq sfaċċatament. Ir-reliġjon saret fatalment dgħajfa u qiegħda hemm bla tama ta’ għajnuna bħal tifel orfni.

Maħkumin mill-imħabba għad-dinja

Il-Qaddis Profeta Muħammad widdeb biex wieħed ma jħobbx daqstant lid-dinja, iżda llum kull qalb hija maħkuma minn din l-imħabba. Ir-reliġjon saret bla saħħa donnha kienet orfni. Il-Qaddis Profeta Muħammad qal ċar u tond: “L-imħabba għad-dinja hija l-kawża prinċipali tal-ħażen kollu.”

Alla jgħid fil-Koran Imqaddes: “Tiġrija reċiproka biex jiġu akkumulati aktar ħwejjeġ materjali tbegħedkom minn Alla, sakemm taslu għall-oqbra tagħkom.” (102:2-3)

L-akkwist u x-xewqa eċċessiva tal-bniedem li jaqbeż lil ħaddieħor fil-ġid, fil-pożizzjoni u fil-prestiġju jinsabu fl-għerq tal-problemi umani kollha u tan-negliġenza ta’ valuri ogħla tal-ħajja.

Hija l-isfortuna kbira tal-bniedem li l-passjoni tiegħu għall-akkwist ta’ affarijiet tad-dinja ma taf l-ebda limitu u ma tħalli l-ebda ħin biex huwa jaħseb f’Alla jew fil-ħajja eterna. Huwa jibqa’ kompletament involut f’dawn l-affarijiet sakemm tiġi l-mewt fuqu, u mbagħad isib li kien ħela l-ħajja prezzjuża tiegħu f’attivitajiet materjalistiċi li ma jiswew xejn quddiem Alla.

Alla jgħid fil-Koran Imqaddes li l-ħajja hija mhix eterna, huwa proprju għalhekk li aħna dejjem niffokaw fil-ħajja eterna li tistenniena wara mewtna ħin bla waqt. Alla jgħid: “Il-ħajja materjali mhi xejn ħlief sport u passatemp. U tassew ir-residenza tal-Ħajja ta’ wara din hija aħjar għal dawk li huma ġusti. Allura mbagħad ma tifhmux?” (6:33)

Loving Each Other

INĦOBBU LIL XULXIN

ALLA JORDNA LI L-UMANITÀ TRID ISSIR BĦALA FAMILJA WAĦDA U TKUN TAJBA U ĠUSTA MA’ XULXIN

Dawn l-aħħar xhur kienu verament diffiċli ħafna għal kulħadd. Dan il-vjaġġ matul il-pandemija sar twil u inkwetanti, mimli tbatija, uġigħ u sofferenzi. Din il-pandemija bidlet id-dinja għalkollox; kollox sar ta’ taħt fuq.

Kif Alla wiegħed fil-Koran Imqaddes li, ‘Tassew, hemm is-serħan wara t-tbatija’ (94:6),bil-grazzja Tiegħu qed naraw raġġi ta’ tama u kuntentizza wara mina twila u ta’ sofferenzi.

L-Iżlam jgħallimna li rridu nkunu grati lejn dawk kollha li għamlu l-ġid lin-nazzjon. Għandna nkunu grati lejhom, għax “min ma jiżżix ħajr lin-nies, ma jiżżix ħajr lil Alla”. Għalhekk huwa importanti ħafna li nuru l-gratitudni tagħna għal dawk kollha li ħadmu b’xi mod u ieħor matul din il-pandemija, inkluż frontliners kollha fosthom tobba, infermiera, armata, pulizija, għalliema u ħafna aktar.

Min-naħa tagħna, f’isem il-Komunità Ahmadiyya Musulmana Malta, nixtieq nesprimi l-gratitudni sinċiera tiegħi lejn l-Onorevoli Prim Ministru, l-Onorevoli Ministru tas-Saħħa, is-Supretendent tas-Saħħa Pubblika, u lejn il-frontliners kollha għax-xogħol u d-dedikazzjoni kbira tagħhom matul dawn ix-xhur. Jiena nirringrazzjahom ħafna minn qiegħ qalbi u nawguralhom is-saħħa u l-ħidma t-tajba. Il-Mulej iberikhom u jixħet fuqhom l-imħabba u l-ħniena Tiegħu. Alla jberikna lkoll. Ammen.

Nixtieq ngħid ukoll li din il-battalja għadha ma spiċċatx, allura waqt li nisperaw u ninsabu determinati, m’għandniex nirrilassaw ruħna biex insegwu l-miżuri ta’ prekawzjoni.

Nixtieq insemmi wkoll biex ma ninsewx il-valuri ta’ mħabba, mogħdrija, solidarjetà li tgħallimna iżjed il-valur tagħhom matul dawn l-aħħar xhur. Ejjew inkomplu nipprattikaw dawn il-valuri sabiex inkunu poplu magħqud, poplu li jieħu ħsieb lil kulħadd, u poplu ġeneruż.

Żewġ lezzjonijiet importanti li tgħallimna minn din il-pandemija huma li nistabbilixxu relazzjoni mill-qrib ma’ Alla, u li ngħinu lill-umanità. Għalhekk huwa importanti ħafna li qatt ma ninsew dawn il-lezzjonijiet importanti li huma l-qofol tal-eżistenza tagħna.

Il-Qdusija Tiegħu, Ħażrat Mirża Masroor Aħmad, il-Kap Dinji tal-Komunità Ahmadiyya Musulmana, enfasizza fuq dawn iż-żewġ drittijiet fit-taħdita tiegħu. Huwa qal li, ir-relazzjoni tagħna ma’ Alla ma tistax tkun soda sakemm ma nwettqux id-drittijiet ta’ sħabna l-bnedmin. L-atti kollha ta’ talb u qima se nibbenefikaw ruħna minnhom biss biex nilħqu l-viċinanza ta’ Alla meta aħna wkoll inwettqu d-dmirijiet tagħna dovuti lejn sħabna l-bnedmin.

Sfortunatament, hemm ħafna li mhumiex kapaċi jissodisfaw id-drittijiet dovuti lil xulxin u jwettqu inġustizzji kontra xulxin.

Madankollu, Alla jordna li l-umanità trid issir bħala familja waħda, u tkun tajba u ġusta ma’ xulxin; meta nagħmlu dan imbagħad biss nistgħu verament nistabbilixxu konnessjoni ma’ Alla.

Għalhekk huwa importanti li nħobbu lil xulxin, nieħdu ħsieb il-ħolqien ta’ Alla u naqduhom, u anke ma neskludux lill-għedewwa tagħna minn turija ta’ mħabba u benevolenza; tkun kemm tkun persuna kontrina, aħna dejjem irridu noqorbu lill-oħrajn b’attenzjoni kbira u qalb tajba, u nuru l-ogħla standards ta’ moralità.

Il-motto rivoluzzjonarju u paċifiku tal-Komunità Ahmadiyya Musulmana: “Imħabba għal kulħadd mibegħda għal ħadd”, huwa verament prinċipju prattikabbli u ta’ ispirazzjoni kbira biex nuru l-imħabba vera, is-simpatija u l-kompassjoni ġenwina lejn l-umanità kollha. L-imħabba ħanina u l-kompassjoni vera li d-dinja tassew għandha bżonn ħafna.

Imbagħad biss meta nistabbilixxu dan l-istandard fit-trattamenti tagħna ma’ xulxin u nitolbu għal xulxin, allura aħna nesperjenzaw il-veru hena u pjaċir ta’ Alla. Għax, li turi t-tjubija u l-kompassjoni għall-ħolqien ta’ Alla huwa estremament importanti biex jinkiseb il-pjaċir ta’ Alla.
